  1. YESS!! I thought I was going to Nigeria to meet the love of my life. And shortly before I was to leave, I got a very detailed email from his older brother (name removed) listing all the things I should bring when I come. If he was doing me any favors, he should've asked me to bring snacks, Imodium, iron supplements, bug repellent and toilet paper (apparently nobody in the house uses any!) But instead he told me to take along my birth certificate, passport photos, bank statements, proof of employment, etc. lol...I just feel so foolish looking back at it all........sheesh.

Admin: the "name removed" wasnt a person's 'name'. I believe she used the term Olori Ebi, which means "head of the family". Its no different than using the term mom, dad, sister, brother, etc. Just thought I'd point that out.

  2. Hey there! I've lived with my husband in Ghana for over 6 years. Not because we had any difficulites with immigration..we just decided to live together here for a while before even starting the immigration process. YESSSS it is so expensive here and I cant wrap my head around why they charge so much for certain things, especially rent!!! But it also depends on how you want to live. We shop in the expensive markets, the "american" shops and live in an expensive part of the city. So it really just depends on your preference. Jobs for an American, you can forget that one! Luckily I am self employed so I can run most things from over here and I go back to the States a couple times a year for a month or two. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask. There isnt much I cant tell you about this place!! :):):)

  3. Guess what.. I've been calling repeatedly of late, called again yesterday. On hold for almost an hour, then the rep said those magic words.. "Your case has been reviewed and review is complete." He asked if they should send a status/notification email which takes about 7 days, I said Yes.

After the call, I looked on ceac, AOS still showed 'paid' as before. But this morning it shows the magic 3 N/As.

So, I'm waiting on the email, but I have Case Complete!!!!!!!

where are you guys looking to see "N/A"?? my case has been complete for over a week now, Ive even received the email from them regarding it (7 days later), but still if i look on ceac, and check the fees link, it shows my 2 fees as "paid"...im not sure where you guys are looking?? thanks

  4. Just thought I'd add my 2 cents. I had sent my paperwork and got a second checklist needing one more thing. Basically a letter from me explaining my self employment. Once I sent that, I got notified that it will take up to 30 days to be completed. I waited the 30 days and started calling...they just kept saying it was processing. She told me they were behind and that I needed to just keep waiting. 42 days after them acknowledging receipt of my papers, I called again and they still said processing, but that they would now have it escalated to a supervisor review. I thought OH WONDERFUL, yes...go ahead and do that. So she put me on hold while she made the request...then came back on the line and said, Ok, I've escalated it for a supervisor review...it will take 2 to 41 days!! WHAT? I told her..NO, no, no. I was only supposed to be 30 days in the first line which means I MUST be due to be reviewed any day now. I don't want to go to the end of the supervisor que and have it take up to 41 days!! I asked her to please put it back to how it was. She said she couldn't. ugh. I couldn't sleep. Called them the next day and explained what had happened and asked to speak to a supervisor, she said no one was available. I called again the next day and explained the situation again to another rep. She told me that its true that I cant have it reversed, BUT that the supervisor has not pulled it for review yet....that it is still in the original cue. She said the supervisor will literally have a bunch pulled at once to sit in their office while they work on them. But until that happens, it can still be done by the reg reps. She said to cross my fingers and hope that it gets worked on before it gets pulled by the supervisor. Well...2 days later, sure enough it was done. NOT by the supervisor, just regular processing. I guess the moral of the story, is...if you are already close to the date you should be seeing case complete, I would just be patient and not risk getting it put into another que!

  5. The children's practice is forcing getting the vaccines unless the person has records, regardless of what the US Law says. They will not release the results without the vaccines. My finance is in Lagos now getting it done. It is a day to have the physical part and a day to read the results and get the vaccines. Walk-ins only. The examination is 16K NGN and the vaccines are up to 35K NGN. Go figure. They are making their money off the forced optional vaccines. UGH.

    Interesting!!!! LOL...thank you!

You get results back in 4 to 5 days. It's a one day process. If you choose to have HEP A shots you can have the followup shots when you get t US. You don't have to have there.

You can not get medical until you get interview. And the validity of you visa to enter US starts when you have medical you have 6 months from medical to enter.

Yes you can do the medical soon as you get your interview. No wahala.

    Thanks!

  6. Hello,

I was hoping someone could help me with answers about the medical exam process. I do not live in Lagos, but I will be going there for the medical exams. Is it a one day process...or does it require me to come more than one day to complete them? I know there is probably a separate day to come back to collect the results, but is all the testing done in one day? Also, how close to the interview should I get it done. For example, if my interview is not until October (I have not been scheduled yet, only speculating at this point)..is there any reason I would have to wait until October to get them done or could I do it as soon as I know the date for interview?

  7. Because you put down an amount of money they want to know the source so you need to write an explanation. How were you able to file a return with a 1099 or W2 is one thing that might be an issue also.

You are going to have to show proof of where this $8500 came from so hopefully your tax transcript will be available soon. or as I said you can write a letter.

Honestly making $8500 you I don;t think even qualified to even file a tax return so you shouldn't have you might have hosed yourself up and delayed things.

For tax years 2013, 2012 you did put 0 correct and a explanation why you weren't required to file taxes those years?

Thank you so much for responding. I'm sure I put zero's for those prior years. I don't think I put any explanation as to why though. I submitted all my pages of my passport so they can see that I was abroad most of the year. I guess I shouldn't have assumed they'd have known why I hadn't filed those years. Also, because I knew that I was not qualifying for sponsor alone, I was more focused on having all the docs or the joint sponsor. Which I guess they had all they needed because they didn't ask for anything of his. I think with the $8500 I did have to file unfortunately, in fact Im sure I did because I ended up owing them. So you think just a letter of explanation on what I do is sufficient enough? Its just a cash business. As for not including the explanation on the I 874, I could do the explanation in the letter, or at this point, I'm sure I could just fill out a whole new one and submit it since they are waiting for my documents anyways.

  8. Hello,

My case is at NVC and I called yesterday and was told I'd be getting a checklist for incomplete info. I received the checklist via email today and it says I have to provide the following:

[x] I-864, Affidavit of Support Checklist

[x] You must submit the following financial evidence:
[x] Proof of current employment (examples: a recently dated job letter, pay stub, or a copy of your business license)

Let me now tell you a little background. The last time I worked full time and filed a tax return was 2011. I did not work/file in 2012 or 2013. In 2014 tax year I filed self employment but only made about $8,500 for the year. The reason I have not worked/filed so much is because I have been living in Nigeria most of the year each year with my husband. I do some accounting work on the side when I did go home for some months in 2014 which is why I filed self employment in 2014. I don't have a 1099 or anything though because the work is from numerous different clients and I collected cash from all of them for jobs I did. NOW, knowing I don't have much of an income (which if course will change once I'm back in the States for good) I have a joint sponsor. (Or is it called co-sponsor?) That person makes above the eligibility for income. I have submitted his tax transcripts from the last 3 or 4 years. And my husband was going to bring all his current paystubs to the interview if they are needed to show current and ongoing income. When I received the checklist, there was nothing needed for the joint sponsor, they are only asking for those things above of my own. But I don't know what else I'm supposed to send or give. For the 2014 return, I sent the actually copy of the return. The transcript was not yet available at the time I sent it. But they are not even asking for that. They want job letter, pay stub or business license, which clearly I don't have and they should already know that since I filed self employment with only $8500 in income. Any ideas what I should do? Have I hit a serious roadblock?
