  1. Jim_Tanja,

Even if you want to keep that apartment, I would advise that Tanja goes to a notary public and signs a paper temporarily transferring her ownership rights (DOVERENNOST') to someone she trusts (le.g. her mother). This paper is usually valid for 2 years. In that case, her mother will be able to resolve all issues and problems with the property. And who knows if the problems will arise?

I'll pass that info along to her as well! Thanks!

  2. How does that work if the lady comes here and still owns property in Russia? Elena's mom signed over her flat to her a couple weeks ago, so she will own a flat in Russia, while living here. Is it possible to still own property there but have registration here?

I don't know. She is thinking she will stay registered in Omsk. It is something we still need to sort out.

The flat used to belong to her grandmother, so she has some sentimental reasons for keeping it as well. I am still trying to figure out the whole registration thing and what options we have available for us.

  3. I seem to recall reading something like this before, but can not seem to find it. Hopefully some others who have brought a spouse over can comment on this.

Tanja and I have been discussing the flat she lives in. She wishes to keep it (not sub-rent it out). While it is not a huge amount every month, the practical side of me wonders about spending money each month for 'an empty apartment.'

Now the money aside, what exactly are the implications on her registration if she keeps it, leaves it, or rents it out? Can she register elsewhere (consualte or embassy here in USA)? I assume where she is registered effects her passport renewal etc. Obviously it will take some time before getting citizenship here, and we do want to travel back to Russia during that time.

Hopefully some of the more experienced VJers will have some words of wisdom on this registration situation!

  4. After the confimation NVC letter (docs going to Moscow in next week or so), the next thing I saw was a posting on the Moscow web site. It was just updated today with interviews thru 31 Oct.

    You can check here: http://www.usembassy.ru/consular/iv_dates.php

I do not know the other answers. We are making plans based on the interview date listed on the web site. I took all the needed docs over in my last visit, so she can just use those or use them as examples to fill out packet 3 whenever that arrives.

    Jim

    Few questions...

When the moscow embassy gets the stuff from NVC, do they send out a paper in the regular mail, asking if you have papers ready and signature?

    How long that takes?

Please let me know the process if anyone dealt with this...

How long it takes them to assign interview date?

  5. Please give a little bit of time. Sometimes the docs do not even leave CIS for up to a week.... yes I know, more waiting at CIS. It sucks.

It took around 3 days once our docs finally left California to reach NVC. It was then a week before they approved and sent the letter.

Even then I suspect the docs stayed at the NVC till the next Monday before leaving to embassy.

It is a lot quicker now, but try and relax just a little bit - it will get thru... I know, it is not easy! =)

  6. If this helps any I found one that shipped to Russia on the 17th and arrived on the 21st......Maybe they told you it shipped on the 16th but it didn't really go out until the next day perhaps, this is just a guess though

I'm thinking it might be this one myself, as the other destination was St. Petes... But I would be happy either way!

  7. Interesting. I received a touch August 7 as well. When I got thru last night to NVC they told me they still have not received the package. I got the approval letter last Friday, I didn't think it would take much longer for the documents to arrive... Maybe they are taking scenic route to NVC? Hmmm...

I called NVC on 08/09 and was told the application had been received on 08/07/2006. Just checked USCIS site and was last touched on 08/07/2006.
