I'm in the army I sent a letter from my commander talking about future deployment and the approve my I-130 in 1.5 month from March 23 2016 to July 15 2016 nesbraska center
Awesome!! I'm gonna have my husband ask his CO for a letter stating the same and also get a copy of his current orders to show when they end. Thanks for the tip.

If you look at this years aos threads you can see people are getting interviews and green cards a lot faster. I'd say it's a good bet to expect yours wishing 6 months, so you'll be fine.
But if you can ask for an expedite, why not? Go for it! Anything to speed up things.
Good luck
I just read a thread where a member applied in May of 2015 and is yet to receive their GC. Fingers crossed that's not our case too lol.

Military transfer orders?
He needs to go to his CO and ask for them to help with the process
it goes a lot faster if military puts in requests
Ok I'll have him ask his CO though I'm not sure what they'll be able to say without hard orders yet. I guess they can give a letter confirming that he'll be changing duty stations next year. Thank you!

Ok so we filed the paperwork for AOS last week and from what I'm reading the timeline from application to receiving the green card is around a year. My husband is up for orders soon and if he is assigned an overseas duty station will be leaving early next year (around March)
Do we have to wait for his specific orders to put in an expedite request? I'm just thinking ahead because if the AOS timeframe is correct then I possibly won't get my GC by the time we are supposed to move.

It takes about 75-90 days to get the EAD/AP combo card.
We filed in May 2015 and still don't have the GC, some stay at NBC and some are transferred to local or even other
out of state field offices. Many K1's don't get interviews.
Wow you've been waiting for a while. I thought that the timeframe would be a little shorter.
-
It's best to wait, that way you make sure the document you send is going to be matched to your case and will be looked at by the adjudicator assigned. Sending before would probably be counterproductive.
Ok thanks

Just received my email and text notification yay :-)
Question: I'm pretty much expecting an RFE since I forgot to include a copy of my husband's passport to prove citizenship. Will I have to wait to actually get the RFE or is there anyway that I can send what's needed in advance?
-
they say around 15 days or so. I got electronic receipt one weeks after filing. Hang in there. It will come soon.
Good luck
Thanks for responding! So I guess the turnaround time is a little longer than the K1 huh? Well I'm glad that I have my husband with me to make the wait shorter.

Hi everyone!! Excited to start round 2 of this process (not really lol). We mailed our packet on July 8th and tracking shows that it was delivered on July 11th. Haven't gotten the NOA1 as yet nor has the check been cashed. How long did it take for you to get your NOA1?

Interviews (for K1, not sure about spousal visas) are scheduled through http://www.ustraveldocs.com/jp/index.html?firstTime=NoThanks again...
I think in our case the interview will be scheduled by the NVC from USA. We are waiting for IR-1 visa (spousal). I heard, as you also said, the interview appt can be scheduled/re-secheduled by the applicant. By any chance do you have a link to this page? I'm searching on US Embassy site in Tokyo but no luck...hehe
Thanks.
Hopefully someone who's applied for the spousal visa can give you more info on the process. You can also contact the embassy's call center, they are pretty helpful.

Thanks for your reply... :-)
We already have all the documents ready so this should not require extra time. I was more trying to figure out how far out are the interviews usually scheduled from the time the embassy gets the documents. I know we are trying to do impossible and plan but aren't we all...hehe
Regards, T & K
Oh ok, you (the applicant) schedules the interview, not the embassy. When I was scheduling my interview, slots were pretty easy to get for whatever date you wanted. I scheduled mine a week before my interview date.

For me the time between NVC processing the case and sending it to the embassy was around 2 weeks. It then took around a week and a half for us to receive packet 3. After that it's all dependant on how quickly you send the required documents in and gather what's needed for the interview. You can check the timeline for more info. Can anyone give us an idea for wait time from NVC approval to the Interview time in Embassy in Tokyo? Is it usually pretty quick or is it another lengthy wait time?
Our case was for a K1 however, I'm not sure if the timeline is any different for other types of visas.

My visa was delivered today! Now I can actually start packing lol.

I live in Japan and the police certificate that I received was already translated in English along with the Japanese version by the police department. Try asking the Dutch police first if they automatically translate as well.

On what basis did you come to the US?
How is that question relevant? How he came to the US is none of our business nor is it relevant to his question. He's an American citizen and that's all that matters.

Thank you Jonas. Checked CEAC and the status was changed to issued :-)

Following this thread. Technically I'll be a April filer since our wedding will at the end of this month but I still want to be prepared. My husband will be deployed soon after we get married so a lot of the filing will be done only by me and I'll need to gather all the documents needed before he leaves. I hope I don't mess anything up lol.
-
Hi I'm in Tokyo too. Once no signatures are needed you can send a copy. Everything else with a signature needs to be sent as the original however.
-
Congrats Harajuku!!! Yes everyone is in short AP while they are printing the visa. Yours should turn to Case Approved or something like that (sorry I forgot as it's quite a while ago) soon.
Yaaaaa Omedetoooo : )
Thank you GreenPaddy! You've eased my mind a bit

Had my interview yesterday and was approved thankfully. The consular officer said I should receive the passport with the visa by Friday or Monday. I checked the CEAC status today and it said Administrative Processing. Is that normal? I know that some applicants stay in AP for a long time so now I'm a little worried. In just wondering if all Japan filers usually go straight to AP after the interview.
-
Question: does everyone usually go into AP after the interview? Like is just a regular step after being approved? I checked CEAC and we are now in AP and I know that the time when it stays there can vary. I'm just wondering if some people go straight to "issued" after the interview.

I haven't been on here in a while but just wanted to make a quick update that I had my interview this morning and got approved :-) I'm so happy that the hardest step is over and in just a few weeks I will be able to marry the love of my life. The waiting period for AOS will be much easier since we'll be together. I'm really grateful for all the information I've gathered on this forum - it's a God send :-)
-
Finally got around to mailing packet 3 today. I contacted the embassy and told them that I was unable to locate my expired passport and they said I should mail everything else along with a written statement about the passport. Hopefully Packet 4 comes soon :-) In the meantime I'll work on getting the police certificate ready.

If you are already at your new duty station then there won't be an expedite. My fiancé is Navy and our wait times were the same as everybody else's.

in Adjustment of Status Case Filing and Progress Reports

I didn't send it either because I didn't see it in the AOS guide (it would be nice if they updated that). I did receive my mailed copy of the NOA1 however but I guess we may get an RFE.
