  1. i have been having a problem with my windows Media Player for the last couple of days..... the problem is that it doesn't work.... When I click on it basically nothing happens....

the only way it works is if you right click on it and then run it as administrator...

I tried uninstalling all the recent updates and all the programs I have installed in the last little while but it still doesn't work...

I tired asking the question on a tech site but they don't seem to know what is wrong and according to that site it looks like a lot of people are having the same problem...

yeah, I know I could use a different media player and I have downloaded the VLC player ...but I can't even use my Netflix Movie player now either because the windows media player and the Netflix player are somehow connected ..

does anybody know what the problem could be??:unsure:

I had a similar problem, here is the solution I found

    1. Click Start - All Programs - Accesories

    2. Right Click Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator"

    3. Type the following command and press Enter.

    regsvr32 wmp.dll

Popup Regsvr32 will come up with the following:

    DLLRegisterServer in wmp.dll succeeded.

Start Media Player.....it worked for me. I have Vista Home Premium.

  2. First off I stopped reading after page 10 so I apologies if I am duplicating what has been said.

    1. I do penetration testing which means that I legally hack into systems and then inform the client how I done it so that they can fix it. I tested a trial for the UK Biometric system when I lived in the UK and it was seriously flawed and vulnerable. Having all the data on on system is called a 'single point of failure', if anyone got onto that system it would be game over, your SS, Driving licence number, finger print hash, credit card number etc would all be leaked onto the internet. All these systems are connected to the internet and trusted third parties are generally allowed connection onto these networks, therefore any illusion of security is well and truly scuppered.

    2. The 911 terrorists and the terrorists in the UK were all there legally. No ID card would have stopped them from carrying out there attacks.

    3. Recently ICE started a crackdown on people modifying video game consoles. Modifying consoles allows you to play games and DVDs from other regions, and it also allows you to play pirated games. Now I have no problem with there being a crackdown on this. But as has been pointed out several times there are 10-20 million illegal immigrants out there and apparently is a big deal. So why are ICE spending there limited resources on teenagers modifying there console rather than performing raids on illegal immigrants.

    4. there are already sufficient laws in place, they just have to enforced. The I-94 clearly shows how long you are suppose to be in the country, your fingerprints and iris scans are already in the database, and your entry and exit are all recorded. The only thing I like would be a card show your status when you are in the middle of AOS, would be good for driving licence etc.

The ID system in the UK will probably not make it into law as there is so much opposition to it. My dad is for it, his argument being, "if I have done nothing wrong then you have nothing to worry about". I look at it like, "If I have done nothing wrong then why do I need to get bothered.

    Anyone read Animal farm!!!

  3. I've ordered from these folks before http://www.thebritishpantry.us/ They have a fairly good selection (bacon and sausages are listed under Savory Frozen Goods) and their service was excellent.

Of course I ordered in the winter time, I don't know how much you'd have to pay for quick delivery of frozen goods in this summer heat! Or even if the would ship it!

Now I'm craving some sausages and Scotish meat pie. *sigh*

Whats there bacon like? It says it is Irish so I assume that it is the same as the stuff we get in the UK

  4. Pollution is different from CO2. I am all for stopping pollution. CO2 on the other hand is a naturally occurring substance. Everything that breaths makes CO2. Volcanoes and forests make much more CO2 than man does. There is no scientific connection to the additional CO2 that industrial man makes to the warming of the planet. It's just a theory and conjecture.

Thats like saying because radiation is naturally occurring substance, and everything that breaths makes radiation. Therefore the amount that man can create must not be harmful!!!!

This discussion would not happen anywhere else in the world, even Bush has now stated that global warming is happening and than man is the likely cause.

There is a direct link the with the start of the industrial revolution and the increase in temperature in the oceans and the air. I have been to a place in Scotland that use to have palm trees as a direct result of the gulf stream flow bringing in the warm water and air. There was report recently that they have all started to die because of the ice caps melting and the water pouring into the ocean and changing the gulf stream.

You can hide your head in the sand and say its not happening, but the planets ecosystem is delicate and to think that through all our factories, cars and pollution that we dont have an effect on this is to be blunt rather dumb.

  5. I thought the policy toward Mexico, Canada, and the Bahamas changed this year, with a passport now being required. Better double-check before you or your SO try entering!

Rule change is that a passport is required for returning to the USA..... Not necessarily the other way around. This person will need to show there passport & greencard to gain entry back into USA.

Although that is correct, most airlines wont let you fly if you don't have a passport for the outward leg of the journey.

  6. Yeah everyone has been raving about superbad, but I don't think it looks that funny. I know it was made by the same ppl that made knocked up (which I thought was absolutely hilarious) so it might not be too bad. My wife is desperate to see Hairspray, but I am trying to talk her out of it, but I did drag her to transformers, so its her turn to pick :(

  7. When I had my cravings all I wanted was sausage rolls and corninsh pasties. (I made my own pasties but they were so bad even the dog wouldn't eat them.)

You could try this store, I have heard some good things about them from one of my Directors (his mum is english).

    http://www.britishbacon.com/comersus6f/sto...ersus_index.asp

I tried ordering 3 pack of bacon, but when I went to checkout it said that my basket had to be $95.00 and then to deliver it to Missouri it was going to cost $44. Dont know if it was a mistake, but the shipping and the minimum order put me off. Maybe some day.

  8. Last time I was pregnant, we were living in Scotland, I am now missing UK food soo much lol I keep telling myself it's too early for cravings, but I want sausage rolls so bad, or a fish supper, big breakfast fry-ups at this little cafe called Munchies in Paisley (mmm tattie scones) and mint aero!!!! *cry* You meanies :P My hubby wants his Irn Bru and sausage suppers too hehe

My parents came over about a month ago and brought me a 6 pack of Irn Bru, it was lush. Also I am from Kilmarnock and the local butchers does the killie pie, which they sell at the football stadium. What I would give for one of them right now.

  9. The UK car show Top Gear starts on BBC America on the 20th Aug. I loved this show back in the UK and I was saying to my wife the other day that I missed watching it. They are going to show season 8, which I watched in the UK last year, but I will happly watch them again.

They are also in talks to do a US version with the UK presenters which would be funny considering Clarksons hatred for American cars.

  10. I do like the idea of meeting up with some other Vjers and also meeting up with some ppl from the UK to watch the footie. Not really a big UK community in kansas City

that would be keen. now with beckham playing for the Galaxy and all.

    Daniel

    :energetic:

WHEN he plays you mean ;)

Now he's nursing his $150 million ankle.

yeah. but by the time thesnowman is in LA, that ankle will be just fine.

    Daniel

    :energetic:

I watched him play 20 mins on espn last week and I watched the match against Chelsea, it was funny listening to these commentators almost foaming at the mouth over beckham (and Beckham cam(, but my highlight has to be when they interviewed Jennifer Love Hewitt for her match analysis. I almost died laughing. In Kansas City they have a billboard over the free way that says "the British Invasion" and on about when the LA Galaxy play the Kansas City Wizards in September.

Beside that I am all for anything that makes proper football more popular over here.

    amen bro

but it is a tough row to hoe.

    Daniel

    :energetic:

I agree, but I suspect that he might actually have an impact. There are at least 10 people in my office that want to go and watch the Kansas City wizards vs the LA Galaxy match. At around 8 of them have never been to a football match. I also remember hearing that USA has the largest amount of registered youth players of any country in the world, they just all lose interest when they get to high school.

Anyway back onto LA my wife and I have agreed to go and visit at the end of October to look at certain areas and look at houses so I would like that that everyone for all there help.

    :)

  11. I thought Rock should have won, my wife said that if Bonnie won she wasnt going to watch it again. Did anyone else notice that they are making an american version of Ramseys Kitchen Nightmares. I love the UK series, watch it on bbc america all the time. Wonder how these american chefs are going take being told they are ####### in there own kitchens.

  12. I want proper Bacon, if I have that I will always be happy. I did find a place called the world market (http://www.worldmarket.com/home.jsp) that sells British stuff like Heinz baked Beans, british tea bags, beer, cider, etc. There is a world market around 3 miles form my house.

I do like the Sausage over here, but I do miss the square sausage I use to get in Scotland, (Lorne Sausage I think is its correct name). I also miss the crusty bread that you can get from Tesco and Morrisons, havent found the crusty bread over here to be that good, its either tough or not crusty.

  13. I do like the idea of meeting up with some other Vjers and also meeting up with some ppl from the UK to watch the footie. Not really a big UK community in kansas City

  14. She is opposed to the Constitutional amendment banning same sex unions. Bottom line, this si what counts. What's wrong with giving states the right?

Tell me Gary, which Republican supports same sex unions?

I think you missed my position. Civil unions for gays is something I support. Marriage is not something I support. And states should have the right to choose if they allow civil unions.

I agree. Which is odd as I dont usually agree with you. For example I think Hillary will be a good President. :) I remember people saying Maggie Thatcher would be a terrible Prime Minister in the Uk and she ended up being ok (just dont mention the poll tax)

  15. I wont be buying a house when we first move out there, so we will just rent at first. Looking into the housing though is kind of scary, and after dealing with the M25 around London for a couple of years I am kind of upset to go back to it. Might have to speak to HP and see if I can work from a different office, they seem keen to get me so maybe I can go to somewhere in OC.

  16. I love LA too - I moved here for a job and don't regret it. Don't believe all the ####### about it being fake - I work in the entertainment industry and have found this aspect of the city is something you can embrace or avoid, your choice.

The 2 things that suck the most:

    1. The traffic

    2. The cost of living. Overall property, gas, insurance and taxes are going to be more than what you are used to

    The things that are great?

    1. The weather

    2. The outdoor opportunities (you can go from beaches to mountains in 15 minutes - great if you like biking and hiking)

    3. Living in a big cultural melting pot

And if it is at all appealing, there is a pretty decent British expat community.

Do you have children? Do you plan to send them to public school? Because that will have a huge impact on where you want to live.

My son will be 2 soon so schools aren't a big concern at the moment, obviously they will be in a few years. The thing I really do like is the outdoor lifestyle which I think will be really healthy for my son. Will miss the BBQ in Kansas City though :(
