  1. Hi all.

We filed for AOS, AP and EAD on November 4th. (adjusting from K1)

Got the NOA's within 10 days of applying....since then, nothing.

Just thought I'd share and see if others are within a similar time frame?

I see from the processing times that USCIS should be dealing with submissions around the time we filed so I am hopeful I'll hear something soon. The USCIS website 'case status' hasn't changed in weeks :clock:

Thanks in advance for any updates!

    :)

  2. OK, I understood it but now I'm confused.

As you say my I-94 is in my maiden name and I am taking my husband's name.

If I go with my ID, I-94, SS5, RM document and another form of ID can I get a SSC even though we married last week?

And I then update my SSC once I receive my EAD?

Sorry if I'm being slow on this, but the SS5 form is out of date and I'm getting mixed up with evidence of name.

    Thanks

  3. Thanks for your response.

Just reading the guidelines for the SS5 form....

If you check “Legal Alien Not Allowed to Work” or “Other,” you must provide a document from a
U.S. Federal, State, or local government agency that explains why you need a Social Security number
and that you meet all the requirements for the government benefit
Is this going to be a problem? I can't see that any other K-1 ers have had a problem.
I just don't want a wasted journey to the SS office as it's not close to me.
    Thanks
  4. Great thread!

I arrived in US on September 30th and married my love on October 17th.

I didn't apply for the SSN as soon as I arrived....I'm thinking now this may have been a mistake?!

My parents were here for the wedding and festivities and have now left so I am due to start the AOS/AP/EAD process now.

Good luck and congratulations to all at whatever stage you may be!

  5. Hi.

I was curious to see if anyone else had been in a similar position...

I am (hopefully) going to US at the end of September on a K-1 visa. I will be applying for the EAD when we file for AOS after our wedding on 17th October.

My job is within schools/education and I have been looking at volunteer positions to apply for once I arrive in PA.

As with UK schools there are checks that have to be adhered to prior to employment. One specific school district requires a PA State Police Clearance, Department of Public Welfare Clearance, FBI Check etc. I will be bringing Police Clearance from UK and a DBS Clearance with me.

Has anyone else worked at schools and if so, how do you get these checks when you are new to the Country?

    Thanks

  6. Hi,

Just thought I'd give people my experience in entering the US whilst in the process of a K1 visa application (at Texas Service Centre)

I don't currently have a job, nor do I have a home in my name at the moment so I was a little nervous about presenting items to prove my return to UK. I printed out bank statements, a letter to confirm a course of study I am on, my I-129 application, letter from our Attorney confirming representation and my e-ticket as proof of return.

I approached the immigration desk at Philadelphia airport and was greeted by two officers (it seems one was in training) they were very nice and asked me my reason for visit. I told them I was visiting my fiancé, this sparked their attention and it seems her training came into action.... she asked me what our wedding date was, I said we hadn't set one as our K1 had not yet been approved. The officer training her smiled and said that they were the correct answers. She asked me to tell them my travel history to the US (I'd been once in 2014 and once in 2008) again, he said this was good.

They discussed in front of me why my entry was not suspicious (I knew what a K1 was, I hadn't arranged a wedding date etc) They didn't ask to see any of the documents I'd collected.

She stamped my passport and wished myself and my fiancé well. Less than 10 minutes and I was through, I couldn't believe it!!

Also when my fiancé met me at arrivals he'd just had an email to advise that we had received our NOA2 approval notice!

A very good experience, despite my weeks of nerves running up to the trip and reading all the advice on this forum.

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

  7. Hi all, just wanted to share our good news that we received our approval on June 30th.....195 days of waiting!

I was mid flight to America to visit my fiance when he received the news.....so seeing him at arrivals and then receiving the news was a very happy moment :)

I am here in America for a month now and then when I get back to England I can start the process back there.

Good luck to you all, I found these forums a great support throughout so thank you!

  8. Hello all,

I want to start by saying how great it is to be part of these forums, I find it very encouraging to hear other people's stories in this unusual journey.

My fiancé and I are in for the long haul at Texas (December filer) and currently my patience levels are doing well :)

I wanted to ask if people could tell me what happens after we are married so far as AOS? We have not booked any wedding but we are planning on being very flexible and having a small ceremony more or less as soon as I (hopefully) get in on my K1 visa, whenever that may be....

Once we are legally married what is the next step with employment (mine) and obtaining a GC? I would also like to visit the UK with my future husband in June of next year. Would I be able to travel out of the USA whilst my GC was pending?

I'm sorry if this has been answered elsewhere in the forum, but I can't seem to find anything.

Thanks in advance and good luck to all!
