  1. I am a single mother (Never married/wedded) with sole custody of a 1 year old daughter, she has my family name on her international passport. The man that got me pregnant abandoned us and has never been there for us.

Please I would like to hear or get a suggestion from someone with a similar situation in the past on the below questions.

What kind of document would I need to satisfy sole custody at F2b visa interview in Lagos (Nigeria) to be able to travel with my daughter to the US if we were approved?

Is/are there documents that I need to provide to show that I'm a single mother who has not been married and how would the embassy react to it?

Would the embassy be asking questions about my daughter's father, even when he has not been part of us? And as I write this, I don't even know his whereabout neither does he know mine. We've lost contact ever since I became pregnant.

Your recommended advice/suggestions would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks

  2. Do you see that? They have sent you the welcome letter and must activated the form DS-261 as well, whereas you were not aware of it. Keep in touch with NVC and update them with applicant's and petitioner's e-mail addresses.

Meanwhile, start collecting the civil documents and tell your mother to fill out affidavit of support form and gather all necessary financial documents which are applicable to your case.

    Hi Puru,

I finally heard from the NVC yesterday, they sent a letter titled NVC Welcome Letter (ACL), the letter contains my NVC Case Number and Invoice ID Number and I was directed to nvc.state.gov to begin NVC processing.

They also sent another letter to my petitioner quoting all my particulars and including Affidavit of Support Fee Invoice of $120 to be paid by my petitioner.

Now my mind is at rest, I can go on with the filing of the forms and start getting all the required document.

Puru, I still want to thank you and others who have helped so far and I will still need your help when necessary.

    Thanks

  3. Good Luck!!

    Hello Puru,

I was able to get hold of one of the reps. in NVC after about more than 30 minutes of call waiting. The lady I spoke with asked what I wanted after asking for my particulars and that of my petitioner, and I told her I wanted to know about my case status which she checked and said that an information was sent out about my case on February 26, 2015, but I told her that i didn't get anything.

My mother who's the petitioner does not have an e-mail address and I wonder where they sent the information to. Nevertheless, I gave her my e-mail address and she said she will forward the information to my mail between 3-5 days.

I will call them again if after 5 days i don't hear from them, i will keep calling them just as you suggested until i have a good response to start processing my case.

Thanks for your kind suggestion as I look forward to hearing from NVC soon.

  4. NVC starts consular processing when the PD is going to be current within upcoming 6 months. Consular processing takes time that's why NVC approach applicant and petitioner in this regard to deal with the complex paperwork which actually requires some time in this activity.

If ur PD is 7th Dec 2008 then you should try calling NVC non stop. If I were in ur shoes then I couldn't sleep until I made them convince to open my case for consular processing.

GOLDEN RULE: WHEN PD BECOMES CURRENT THEN YOUR CASE BECOMES ELIGIBLE TO GET THE VISA NUMBER (Which means case got an interview letter when pd becomes current in bulletin) You are equally responsible to clear out ur case asap otherwise you have already waited for ages and in this way you will keep on wait and leave this system on its own .... Its ur necessity not theirs.

SO, don't waste ur time and start calling NVC and won't hung up unless you got the assurance.

I really want to thank you for the enlightenment, I will place a call on them NOW.

  5. My PD is 17th Dec 2008.

My petitioner and me both sent the photocopies to NVC. Photocopies of everything including every Financial and Civil Documents but I will bring the original documents of these two sets at interview for sure and it is mandatory and strictly instructed by NVC nowadays.

I gt my PCC from Passport seva kendra (PSK) on 13th March 2015 in New Delhi and my embassy is New Delhi not a consulate of Mumbai because I live in delhi not in mumbai.

Civil Documents for me and I believe for every applicant which are required to submit are: Photocopy of PCC, Photocopy of Valid Passport or the latest passport, Photocopy of Birth Certificate, 2 Colored Photographs (2x2 inches) that's it.

    Hello Puru444,

I'm a bit confused here, am I not getting something clear or what? How were you able to start your processing when your PD is yet to be current? I thought it was the other way round, i.e the case been current before processing. My PD is 7th Dec 2008, F2B and am yet to hear from NVC.

Could country of chargeability be the reason for that or what?

    Please enlighten me.

    Thanks in advance.

  6. It took them 6+ weeks. Best thing at this time is to call NVC and they will confirm to you that your case is now ready for processing. I called them yesterday night at around 9:00 p.m. (I had to be on hold for 30 minutes) but got confirmation that both my cases got current for processing on March 27, 2015 and I will be receiving communication latest by 42 days from March 27, 2015. I did not ask them if it was regular 42 days or 42 business days. If it is 42 business days I do no expect anything this month to start the paper work.

    Hi Hamida,

I really appreciate your swift response.

Please can you help me with the NVC telephone number with which you called them, and what information should I have readily available before I place the call on them?

    Thanks in advance.

  7. I had sent email to NVC in February 2015 to update the address for three petitions. I got email from them for all these petitions for 2 petitions

One with November 2008 priority date and one with January 4, 2009 priority date

This petition is now eligible for further processing. The petitioner, principal applicant, and/or attorney of record will receive an instruction package regarding further processing of this petition.

    IMPORTANT:

Do not let more than one year pass without contacting the NVC concerning this visa petition. If a period of one year passes from the last date of contact (by telephone, mail, or e-mail) with the NVC, all submitted fees and documents expire. If this occurs, the fees must be paid again and documents must be resubmitted in order to continue the immigration process.

    Preference Category: F2B

    Your Priority Date: 04Jan2009

    Foreign State Chargeability: PAKISTAN

The one with Priority date of March 2009 I got following email.

Unfortunately, we are unable to predict when this petition will be eligible for further processing. The petition is currently not eligible for further processing due to numerical limitations on immigrant visa issuance prescribed by law.

    Hello Hamida,

How long did it take to get a reply from NVC when you sent the mail in February, 2015? I asked because i sent them an email in March 12, 2015 and have not heard from them.

    Preference Category: F2B

My priority date is: December 07, 2008

  8. Hey Qlink,

Write to the NVC with the details (read how to contact NVC). Here's the link: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/contact/ask-nvc.html

They will reply and also provide you with your Invoice ID which you should save, to be used by you and your petitioner when NVC processes your case. You will need Invoice ID and case number to fill out DS-261, DS-260 forms and to pay the Affidavit of support (AOS) and Immigrant Visa (IV) fees, when your PD becomes current.

Your email will also be registered with NVC, so they will send the emails to both you and your mother/brother (petitioner & beneficiary, you are also referred to as primary applicant)

Your case is most probably with NVC and they will do the needful just as your PD become current, which I think is a few months away. In my son's case, his PD is July 2008 and I heard from NVC end of Feb 2015. So you should check the visa bulletins to keep track when your PD is about to be current. Writing to the NVC around that time yet again helps as they reply promptly, if your PD is going to be current.

Qlink, you should be on this forum where you will be in the company of all F2B applicants:

    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/504817-all-f2b-updates-in-this-thread/page-11

    Hi Chubbs,

I really don't know how to thank you enough for the information you provided to me, it's awesome. I have written to NVC as you suggested and awaits their reply. I will also be on the forum you suggested for all F2B applicants.

Once again, I say a big thank you for your help. Please I will be counting on you for further directives as you process your son's case.

    Thanks,

  9. I have a pending petition done by mother who's a LPR with priority date of Decemeber 10, 2008. The petition was done with the help of my brother who's a citizen because my mother is not literate enough to do that herself.

Unfortunately, my brother does not understand the system well, he seems to have forgotten the whole process ever since the petition got approved. i.e the difference between F1 and F2b category.

Now, I have decided to follow up on the case since I'm the beneficiary and I have the copy of the approved I-130 and I-797 Notice of Action.

    My question/worries now are;

    1. Should I call NVC to know the case status, because I called my brother and asked him if he called NVC when he got the approval notification in 2010 and he said he did what was asked to do then and had never done anything since then.

    2. Since my brother is not much familiar with the process and his e-mail address was used during the application, can I e-mail NVC quoting my Names, petitioner's name (my mother) and my case number, and ask them to contact me subsequently using my own e-mail address for all correspondence.

    3. When am I suppose to hear from NVC, considering the fact that the cut- off date for F2b is now July 08, 2008 and my priority date is December 10, 2008.

Lastly, I would appreciate if someone could tell me the step by step procedures to achieve this long awaited dream of traveling to America.
