Hi everyone, I'm filling out my n400 online, but I'm facing a slight problem. The form asks when my husband was naturalized and he lost his naturalization document, so we don't know when the exact date is and the online form does not let u put an estimation, it asks for an exact date. Has anyone faced such a problem and what did you do? How did u solve it?
I put a random date for day and month, i think we got the year right. But i don't want to jeopardize the application for such a minor thing.
Any suugestions or experience in the above issue?!
I was naturalized by birth, so no experience in this issue, but I highly recommend finding the original date - you can order your birth certificates by simply looking up the county information, so I’m sure you can order a certified copy of the naturalization certificate as well. It will cost money but it’s better than jeopardizing your > $700 app!

I got curious to how the timelines for April 2018 filers were looking like as I filed the very end of March and saw this reply:
Which basically mirrored my problem with my case number not available in the old system and the new system just shows that my case was received.
I hadn't gotten any transfer notifications or anything so on a whim I checked the old case lookup system and got the case was approved message as of 03/19/2019! The new system still shows my case as received and nothing else though. My NOA date was 03/29/2018 so I'm surprised at how quickly ours was approved! So I'll definitely be looking in the mail for the new greencard in the next week, can't wait!
Hang in there March filers and good luck with no RFE!
Ahh that's so exciting - congrats! I checked the old website and no luck for me - the case can't be found
-
We tried calling today and got the usual "what you see online is the same info we have on our end". Our case is still stuck at biometrics received last May. Hopefully the N400 can move things along.

Hi thanks for your reply
I did, the automated call repeated the number correctly to me, even on the app when i check my number it doesn't work. the only place is the uscis website where it's been saying the same things forever we received your case on the 27th of march...
I just wanted to call and talk to someone to see if there is an uptdate.
Thanks
Same for me.
Dial 1800 375 5283; press 1 for english; press 1 another time to check case status, enter case number, when that fails, press 2 to report issue with case and wait on the line for a rep

That's because this group is for March filers. I'm sure there's a february filer group too.
Edit: Saw that we were sent an NOA1 under the documents mailed tab. Date is 3/16/19.

I believe that the N-400 asks only if one has/has not filed a Federal return since becoming a permanent resident. In our case that was May 2016 when my wife received her conditional Green Card. We filed our 2018 taxes in February of this year and were able to download tax transcripts for 2016, 2017, & 2018 from the IRS website.
We are filing based on marriage, so I think tax returns are highly recommended - it asked us for the past 3 years of transcripts.

Did you include any tax documents/ transcripts for 2018? The tax transcripts I included in my online application are 2015, 2016 and 2017. We filed our 2018 taxes but I understand that transcripts aren't available just yet..
Yes, we did. We were not married in 2015, so it would have been pointless to submit that year for us. The 2018 transcripts are available - it really just depends when you filed your taxes. We did it in February, and our returns were approved 1-2 weeks later, giving us access to the transcripts as well.
EDIT - also, our estimated completion time is only 12 months! That seems pretty fast to me, although I'm not sure how accurate it is.

Received a RFE today. This makes me pretty mad. They said limited in scope, we submitted health insurance, life insurance, 401k, lease agreement with both names, joint bank account, joint tax returns and photographs.
They said they want further evidence such as children or a mortgage or power of the attorney for property or health.
What the absolute F***. I just turned 30 and do NOT want kids or own a house right now. Unless we make a will for her to take on my student loans I have no idea what they want.
What do you do when you've sent everything and what they're asking for is not reasonable?
The only thing I could reasonably do is an affidavit...
That's kind of ridiculous. We don't have kids either and submitted pretty much the same stuff except maybe even weaker evidence (we don't have joint health insurance, life insurance, or 401k as we're both young and one of us is still a student). Haven't heard anything on our case - last update was May 2018 about our biometrics. Just applied for N400 today so hopefully that will speed things up - have you already applied for citizenship?
-
Just applied - 3/16/19. Still waiting on ROC to be adjudicated.
-
We filed in March 2018 - I'm not sure if we should call and talk to an agent to figure out the status on our case? The online automated system says no info can be provided and the online case status website was last updated in May 2018 stating that they will reuse our biometrics. Can an agent provide more information?

I started my application and saved it until the due date to submit.
I see for attachment is : copy of GC, copy of marriage certificate, copy of 3 year taxes and copy of birth cert for kids.
I dont see however evidence of spousal citizenship nor I see a dedicated section for "marriage evidence"
You probably have to click the next tab, it should be on the next page.
-
Did anyone notice that the n400 application online recently changed to include a separate section for marriage evidence, evidence of spousal citizenship, and then additional evidence? Before, it was just tax returns and additional evidence, but they've made it more clear now!

Another update from form I485 AOS. So you are not required to register with the SS if you are 26 years old!
"The following applies to you if you are a male at least 18 years of age, but not yet 26 years of age, who is required to register with the Selective Service System: "I understand that my filing Form I-485 with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) authorizes USCIS to provide certain registration information to the Selective Service System in accordance with the Military Selective Service Act. Upon USCIS acceptance of my application, I authorize USCIS to transmit to the Selective Service System my name, current address, Social Security Number, date of birth, and the date I filed the application for the purpose of recording my Selective Service registration as of the filing date. If, however, USCIS does not accept my application, I further understand that, if so required, I am responsible for registering with the Selective Service by other means, provided I have not yet reached 26 years of age." -

at 18 you must register so at 26 also
it is misleading and not between like 19 to 25 but 18 years to 26 yrs
go to post office and do it /if an offical govenrment notice comes that you do not need to register , keep it
save yourself an issue later when he wants to naturalize as this was an issue for a member here
Hmmm I think I'll call on Monday and update with their response. It specifically says from age 18 to 25 on their website. This is where I'm getting this info: https://www.sss.gov/Portals/0/PDFs/WhoMustRegisterChart.pdf
-
When I went to the SS website, this is what they state: "Almost all male U.S. citizens and male immigrants, who are 18 through 25, are required to register with Selective Service"
So I guess he never had to apply? Can someone confirm this?
Edit - I think I figured it out. It seems that it only applies before reaching the age of 26, so I think we're good.
-
"If you are 26 years of age or older, provide proof that you registered with the Selective Service when you were required to do so between 18 and 26 years of age."
My husband was 26 years old when he first entered the U.S. on the K1 visa. I'm just confused about "between the ages of 18 and 26" - does that mean from the moment you turned 18 to the moment you turned 26? So, does this indicate that he was never actually required to sign up for the Selective Service since he entered after his 26th birthday?
-
For those filing for citizenship, I would look at this thread first and be wary of applying the day your window opens (perhaps wait a couple days just to be sure):
Additionally, you can go here https://www.uscis.gov/forms/uscis-early-filing-calculator to find out your filing date.

Same, we are just waiting on the account transcripts. I feel like it's better to submit those than just the returns.

Hello Guys,
Does any of I-751 March 2018 fillers here are planning or going to apply for N-400 even if the I-751 is still processing but eligible to apply for N-400? and Which is better? Applying online or by mail?
Thanks!
We're applying for N-400 as soon as we receive our tax refund. Online is better imo. Less paperwork getting lost, etc.

That would be so fast! We're still waiting on our I751 to be adjudicated. I hope we just get a combo interview and can get this process all done with.
