OP seemed to say it was because the friend could not pay tuition. I did specify in my answer that if there was a medical reason or something that was beyond this person's control, being reinstated was a possibility. But the reason seemed to be lack of funds.

 

 

Inability to pay tuition/lack of funds can also be deemed beyond one's control.  I should know because that was my sole reason  for being out of status.  I explained that in the letter I wrote to USCIS when I was applying for reinstatement; how that happened and also how my circumstances had changed and funds became available.  I should also add that since my school had refused to support my application from within the US,  they refused to give me a new I-20. I made a point of stating that in my letter.   I later got an RFE which was a letter I was to give to the international office compelling them to furnish me with one.  I reiterate, so long as one can justify/prove their case, anything is possible when it comes to reinstatement.  Extenuating circumstances can cover a whole load of things INCLUDING lack of funds.

I will beg to differ with some opinions here. A student who has been out of status can apply for reinstatement within the US. My F1 student status was terminated in Oct 2012. I went against my school's advise of going back to my home country and applying from there. I applied for reinstatement on my own, without consulting a lawyer, while in the US in Nov 2013, more than a year of being out of status and I got my status reinstated. If you've been out of status for only one semester, then you are allowed to apply from within. Any period longer than that, you need to justify and prove your case.

Not sure if this means anything, but if it was a glitch wouldn't everyone receive the update?

 

Also, the 500 cases I searched are all CSC cases with WAC at the beginning and are all I-751.

I've read elsewhere on VJ that those whose receipts number were showing "Validation Error" shortly afterwards had approvals and card in production messages.

I was talking about Kenyan time.  Alternatively, just cancel the current appointment.  The visa fee paid should remain valid for a period of one year so you can schedule another appointment at a later date.

What do you mean by this because high school and secondary school mean the same thing.

Are you trying to do that via "My Account" on the global support services page?  When I've used that in the past, I've found it best to keep an eye on the calendar at odd hours of the night/early morning hours between midnight and 3/4am.  If you are already in the US, you can also call customer care services on 703-439-2302 and ask them to help with rescheduling; I've done that too in the past.

Hi! I guess we belong to November filers as well. We sent our package on the 28th of November to VSC, and it was delivered on the 29th. We got our NOA1 today, dated November 30, though the check was cashed on December 2. Now we will just wait for the biomentrics appointment.

How was your F1 revoked? Did you quit school? I-20 is not your authorization of stay, your authorized staying is D/S aka duration of your school, you quit school then you need to leave.

There is no way you can reinstate inside the US once your status has been terminated, let alone you are out of status

Forget about adjusting status (aka having interview inside the US) because you need to keep your status valid (not even a day out of status) to AOS inside the US.

I beg to differ. A student who has been out of status can apply for reinstatement within the US. My F1 student status was terminated in Oct 2012. I went against my school's advise of going back to my home country and applying from there. I applied for reinstatement on my own, without consulting a lawyer, while in the US in Nov 2013, more than a year of being out of status and I got my status reinstated. If you've been out of status for only one semester, then you are allowed to apply from within. Any period longer than that, you need to justify and prove your case.

You're most welcome. Like rinimina stated, get the date of birth on your passport changed to reflect the correct date before you go for your interview.

2. Yes, that will be a problem that could be deemed as fraud in which case you may never be granted a visa.

3. I don't know about Nigeria but I know the US embassy Nairobi website explicitly states "The bank statement must be from an individual’s account. Business bank statements will not be accepted even if you or your sponsor are the sole proprietor".

4. I think your bank statement needs to cover the estimate on your I-20 and then some.

First time I applied for an F1 visa, it was denied. The immigration officer only asked what school I was planning on attending and what course I was going to pursue. Despite me answering these and even showing him paper work from the school which included a scholarship, he said he didn't think I was "a genuine student and schools can write anything" and denied my application. The whole interview lasted less than 2 minutes. I got in touch with the school and told them of this development and they suggested I appeal. So two weeks later I was back at the embassy; a different officer interviewed me and I got the visa.

We filed our paperwork on Nov 13th and the I-130 only got approved yesterday so don't worry. To answer your second question, our interview took less than 10 minutes and we were approved. Our interviewer didn't look at the paperwork we took with us but having said that, we sent so many documents with our initial application so I guess they just checked those. He didn't ask any I-130 questions either.

I think some of the websites are not up to date and would probably disregard them. In January, when I checked some websites, most of them were stating that UCSIS was currently processing May 2014 applications. Your status may show "ready to be scheduled for interview" but I guess that depends on the backlog/how busy the local office is. Mine showed that for about 2 weeks before I got a date. Also I didn't have my interview at the same location I had my biometrics taken.
