  1. I am picking my husband up at the airport in 5 hours and now that the time is FINALLY here, I feel sooooo nervous. I was so excited up until today and now I just feel like a bundle of nerves. I am afraid he is not going to like it here, that it will be too big of an adjustment for him and he will return home. He has never been out of his country and is leaving his son (from a previous marriage) behind. Has anyone else on this board started to doubt at the last minute? This is so weird....like I said I was nothing but thrilled until this morning. Maybe tihs is just anxiety and will go away FAST. Any suggestions on some good things to do for him his first weeks here so he can feel as comfortable as possible? Thanks, you guys.....

  2. My husband got his visa and is coming to me this week, he did not have our marriage certificate translated into enligish and I understand in order for the marraige to be recognized in the US, we are suppose to have it translated. Since he can get a SS number without a marraige certficiate (and hence pay taxes) do we really need it translated? Can we perhaps due it once he gets here as he does not have the time now to get it done in Costa Rica. Please advise! Thanks

  3. I am soooo happy and relieved. My husband received his visa this week and will be coming to the U.S. (San Francisco) next week. I wanted to go get him and come back wth him but am unable to do so. He has never flown before and is nervous about arriving in the US. Can you please tell me what the procedure will be once he arrives. Which line does he wait in and do they then take him to another office with his brown envelope? What is in that envelope? They dont ask questions like they did when we applied for the visa, do they? How long does it usually take on average if there is not a long line before he will come through the customs door to meet me? He is flying direct to San Francisco so he won't be changing planes. Any feedback is much apprecaited. THANKS

  4. Some countries do not have the two year residency rule and you can file right away after you are married, I am not sure about the UAE. But DCF is quicker if you can file that way. I guess the previous poster who told you "no" you cannot file DCF in UAE must know why, but I curious, does UAE have the residency rule because I knew they are a DCF? I would not assume anything, I would call them and ask. I know UAE has DCF I just dont know about the residency requirement. So if there is none, I would suggest going there, getting marrying an applying. If they do have the requirement, then yes....you will have to do the k-1 Visa.

oooopsss... SO SORRY. I just read your last post where you said you did check with the embassy and you do have to be a resident. Disregard my last post. Sorry for not reading all the posts.

  5. You can do direct consular filing in Costa Rica, and I recommend it. MUCH faster than filing in the US. Both you and your wife have to be there though for the first interview when you file. You will need the original marriage certificate, do you have that yet? If not, they will start a provisional file for you and you will have to come back when you have the original certificate.

  6. What we are referring to is the interview one has after the intitial interview where the couple appears togethers to file the I-130 petition and get that approved. Once that happens, the beneficicary goes alone for the second interview with their medical exam and police certificate and gets final approval for actual visa. This is the way it apparently done in some countries, but apparently not all. I think its mostly latin american countries that have this procedure.

Forgot to thanks to eveyone, especially TMMA, you have been providing me with good information on things and I appreciate our support.

  7. My husband and I filed our I-130 petition and were approved. They asked a bunch of questions about our relationship at that tme but did not ask to see any evidence. I am now back in the US and took the evidence proof with me. My husband has 2nd interview in a few weeks, will they still ask for it or was this part of the process taken care of at the first interview? I need to know if I need to send him the material by fedex, please advise if you know.

  8. Thanks for your help, everyone the passport inssue. You guys are always great. Okay, I get it. I don't have to send my passport. I had thought that would be odd, that is why I asked. NOW, I have another question. WHICH originals (from all the docs. I am sending with I-129F app.) will my husband need? The reason I ask is that I am going there on Tuesday and will give him a complete copy of everything I sent but will he need any originals? I thought he needed the entire original packet I sent, not true?

  9. I am 15 years older than my fiance. He looks older, I look younger so we don't look all that different in age, however WE ARE. I am not sure if I should go with him for the interview or if he would be better off going alone. Do you think it matters? I am going to have to make two trips there before the interview and making a third will be tough but if it's better to go, then I will. Please advise. Thanks.

  10. The instructions say to write name of foreign fiance on back of passport style photo, which I did. But, now I see on this board that he was suppose to do that and in pencil? Is that true? Also, can I print out my digital photos on photo paper and send those as evidence? I only have one set of originals and did not want to send them because I will need them again for interview, right??

Please advise and thanks so much.

  11. I finally received everything I need to send off my application. I have read the tips for assembling the application but still have questions. Can I use a manila folder that has 6 sections with tabs with an ACCO faster on each tab, or or am I suppose to just have the papers all together fastened by ONE Acco fastner at the end? In which case can I just seperate the items by plain sheets of paper to divde with no tabs? Also, for the evidence section do I explain what each piece of evidence is, or is that not obvoius (ie, hotel receipt, car rental recepit, passport stamps)?

Sorry for such mundane questions.....just want to make sure I do this right. Thanks!

  12. I was about to file the I-129 for my fiance to come here to the States from Costa Rica, but now there is a chance I will take a job Costa Rica and move there. I will not know for sure for at least another two months, and would hate to wait to file in case I dont move. My question is this: Can I file the I-129 now and then if in two months I am living in Costa Rica, go ahead and get married there and start all over with a marriage visa instead?
