    • Ours took 91 days for NVC to receive from CSC.
(Never were we given any explanation given for the delay.)
After the 30 day mark, one or the other of us would call NVC every day (from Monday to Friday), to inquire.
Patience is a virtue, and my patience is boundless.
However, in a long-distance relationship, waiting through needless delays can be a relationship killer.
So while sometimes we can only wait, we don't have to wait passively. Do whatever you can to speed things up, if ever your delay becomes unreasonably long.

    • All hands, this is your co-captain speaking!
      NOA2 was April 17, 2006.
      Since then... nothing!
      Until...
July 19 Fiance in Florida received a letter dated July 17 from NVC.
It says they have received our case, assigned a new case number, and it will be forwarded to the embassy in Montreal within the week.
Quickly, we must make port so I may debark!
Admiral, although you technically outrank Captain Skybri, I believe that as a commissioned officer, he still has authority over the ship.
I very gladly resign, and wish you a very short journey to port NVC!

Oh, and as for your second question, what you need to do is copy the URL of the image, then past it into your signature between codes. (The closing code has the slash) like this:

    [img=http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/3853/adamlovesamber4ha.gif]

(Images that "move" will end in "GIF" instead of PNG, JPG and others.)

  2. If someone doesn't know the acronyms, they're that much more likely to get overwhelmed by what they read, because it won't make any sense.

    I totally agree with that.

An easily seen section for "Definitions/Acronyms" would be a great addition.

I also couldn't find the abbreviations until Aussie pointed them out to me, which is why I started a thread about it a while back. (http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=15344)

If this idea is implemented, then acronyms like SO and OP should definitely be included.

Anyway, here is my crack at trying to explain it to Newbies.

(Maybe someone can clean it up and make it more reader-friendly, because I tend to get very long-winded.)

    • Touched: Any time your application is handled by someone at a Service Centre, the barcode is scanned, which results in an update to the "last date" for your case on the USCIS website. When the date changes, this mean that someone has physically handled or "touched" your case. There are many reasons your application may be "touched" - from simply being moved from one desk to another, to RFE's, to being approved.
You can check your online status for "touches" anytime, using your receipt number,
      here:
    https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/caseStatusSearchDisplay.do,
but you need to sign up for this service first, which you can do
    here: https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/selectusertype.jsp.
Each time the date is updated, the previous "touch" date is erased,
so only the last date your case has been "touched" will be kept track of there.
    • Ok, so I took a little walk on my lunch hour.
(I work a couple of blocks away.)
The St. Patrick's Bassilica which Cygnet mentioned is indeed right across the street, but I forgot to check how much they charge.
I had always been under the impression that parking there was reserved for tourists coming to see the beautiful woodwork of the ancient church, so it's good to know as a viable alternative.
But, there is a public outdoor parking lot right next to the embassy, on St. Alexandre street.
(I do NOT think this is the same parking lot of Freda's
    bad Montreal Experience infamy.)
To get there, you should come from Ste. Catherine street, which only goes East.
(From the embassy, take Rene-Levesque west to Union, which you take north to Ste. Catherine.)
If coming from the west, you will pass a "The Bay" store building on the left, then a "Burger King", "Future Shop" and "Pharmaprix" all on the right, in quick succession.
Turn right onto St. Alexandre, immediately after the "Pharmaprix", which is on the corner.
You will see the parking lot on the left, about halfway down the block.
Just pull in and park, then go pay at the terminal. (There is no parking lot attendant.)
You can pay with Canadian change or a major Credit Card.
(Remember to go back to your car and put the stub on your dashboard.)
The lot officially opens at 7 in the morning, but it's not like there are any barriers preventing entry.
I assume they would tow anyone parking overnight, though.
It should be relatively empty before 8 in the morning, I imagine. (But by 9, it could be full.)
I believe the sign said that it cost $2.25 an hour for an $11 daily maximum.
I would put in at least enough for 4 hours, or even the whole $11, to be safe.
After that, well, the embassy is the building right there at the south side of the parking lot.
You could even wait in your car if it is cold or rainy, since you can see the front doors from there.

(P.S. Today, when I passed by, the bulletproof glass next to the doors looked like someone had punched it or thrown something at it, because it was cracked and will have to be replaced. I wonder what happened there.)

  3. Prawojazdy

To mozna widziec w dwoch plikach tutaj: http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/licensing_master/identity.shtml

    • Some of us are also in this same situation. (Desotoman, Skibri, Goldie, JEDI and possibly AandK) )
      See this tread topic:
    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16177
I know for sure that Skybri, Goldie and I are still waiting.
Although our cases have absolutely NOTHING to do with IMBRA, I'm starting to think that maybe maybe they are just sitting around somewhere because of confusion about IMBRA, or waiting for more cases to get approved so that they can fill the next box before sending to NVC, although this doesn't make complete sense since many others received NOA2s after us and have already moved on.
Today marks the 74th day since my NOA2, and still no sign of my case at NVC.

    • You don't need any luck, I know you guys are super-prepared and will have NO problems.
But I'm wishing you GOOD LUCK anyway!
I've been following your case for months, so I really need it to have a "lived happily ever after" ending. Now I'm looking forward to the post where you say "WE GOT IT!!!"

    • Ola,
Chcialas wiedziec o ktorej tanczymy? Tanczymy dwa razy. Dlugi program sie zaczyna o 3:45 pm (45 minut), i pozniej krotki program (okolo 15 minut) bedzie w przerwie orkiestry "Jimmy Sturr", o 7:15 pm.

  4. Question in general: Is it possible to use NVC automated service for K1 visa instead of waiting for the live person to answer,as they recommend.

    I'm not sure.

Pretty much everyone here will tell you NO, K-1's are not entered into the system.

But I was told yesterday, by an NVC operator, that they are.

(However, the operators at NVC seem to get things wrong an awful lot!)

My suggestion is for someone (or a few someones!) who has RECENTLY had their K-1 SUCCESSFULLY go through NVC and reach their consulate to call NVC now and check their automated system with their CIS number, then tell us if it worked or not. That way, we shouild know for certain if there have been any recent changes about this.

    Any volunteers???

    603-334-0700, then 1 - 1 - 1, then listen to the instructions.

Please post here if you give this a try, and report back whether it worked or not.

    Thanks.

p.s. AandK, you've only been waiting 2 weeks. That is entirely normal, since they say it can normally take 2 to 4 weeks to go through NVC.

  5. ... Hej Ola, widze ze masz napisane ze jestes w Syracuse.

Od 9-ego do 11-ego Czerwca w Syracuse, New York, bedzie Polski festiwal.

    Wiecej informacji tu: http://www.polishscholarship.com/index.html

    • I think the "picture" you are talking about is what is usually called an "avatar" here.
To upload one of your own, scroll down after clicking
    HERE.
(Don't worry, It will open it in a new window for you.)
Then, click "Browse" and look for the picture you want (in the files on your computer), pick one and click OK, then click on the button at the bottom that says "Update Avatar".
To include your journey information so people see it at the bottom of everything you write, click HERE,
then type it all in the big box area (before or after whatever you already have in there, if anything), then click on the button at the bottom that says "Update my Signature".
    Good luck.

  6. Right.

The K-1's HAVE to go through NVC.

NVC assigns the case number based on which consulate they will ship it to.

That is why some Canadaians end up with numbers starting with MON instead of VAN, because NVC sends them to MONtreal instead of VANcouver. But then Montreal transfers them to Vancouver, only they keep the same number.

By coincidence, I also called the NVC about my case earlier today, and was told, for the FIRST time, exactly what they told you. I asked them "What happens after 90 days, meaning that if I call on day 91, and say it has been 91 days already, what happens next?". The operator told me that I would be asked to fax them my approval notice, and that they would start to "look for it". Ridiculous.

I mean, we all KNOW that it is supposed to be around 2 to 4 weeks, and that it can SOMETIMES take 90 days, but there are so many of us now that I am starting to think that there is a box in the CSC mailroom that they are using as a footstool, that contains all our applications.

I am a very patient person, and even I am starting to become frustrated.

I think we might have spoken to the same lady, because she ALSO told me that I should be able to check my case status through the automated system BEFORE it gets processed, because they enter the CIS numbers as soon as the applications are received, before processing. (But I find it hard to believe her after what everyone else here has been through. Still, maybe it is a recent change?)

Alright, everybody, I know it will be hard, but STAY POSITIVE, ok?!

  7. 2006 marks Canada's 139th birthday!

I've been in the parade many times, but not in recent years.

I seem to remember it usually running east on St. Catherine street, but can also remember it running west one year, and sometimes starting on different streets. But yeah, it always seems to end up at Dominion Square.

I work at Place Ville-Marie, so I went to the Info-Touristique (through the park across the street from Dominion Square) on my lunch hour and asked them if they have any info about Canada Day festivites this year in Montreal, and they said that they still have no info, but were told they would have it soon, and that it would be put up on the website. When I asked if he meant the "c'est la fete" site (http://www.celafete.ca/), he said yes. So keep checking it every couple of days, I guess.

The other big party spot is the Old Port.

    Map: http://www.quaysoftheoldport.com/en/popup_carte.cfm

Jacques-Cartier Quay, place des Vestiges and the Bonsecours sector.

    10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. - Free admission

They usually have live performances by dancing groups and also celebrity musicians. (Lots of Quebecois ones, though.)

Since you're an ex-Montreal native, you must already know your way around. Even so, you might find out about some activities by checking out http://www.peoplemover.ca/.

Even with all the people moving out to the West Island and other outlying areas with this house-building boom that is going on, it is STILL hard to find apartments. Last year, the city government set up temporary housing for people who ended up having to move out without having yet found a place to move IN to. It was a while before everyone found new apartments. And the majority of leases still run from July 1st to June 30, since the governemnt changed Moving Day from May 1st to July 1st, back in the early 70s.

I myself had planned on having my Visa by July and moving to Florida, so I'm moving out of my NDG apartment next weekend (to avoid the last-minute rush), and have to move in with family (who have a spare bedroom, luckily). Unfortunately, with my visa seemingly misplaced somewhere between CSC and NVC, I could end up having to endure that arrangements for months. Who knows, maybe it will be one last Merry Christmas in snowy Canada for me, eh?

Oh, and to a certain degree, Jersey Girl is right.

We are all "partied out" by the REAL party on the long-weekend before.

So Ottawa parties a little harder on July 1st, because they aren't still hung over.

But hey, any excuse is a good one to drink again, you know?

    • To say that my Fiance and I are in EXACTLY the same boat would be an understatement.
      Our timelines are nearly identical!!!
      (p.s. I'm sure you meant June 6, not June 16. That's ok.)
Many people here might tell you that having the US Citizen of your couple contact their congressperson might help speed things up, but that otherwise you will have to wait out the full 90 days, before NVC will take any further action. (Today is the 50th day since NOA2, so we are more than halfway there.)
At least we are not alone in this situation.
      There are many others.
      (See my post here:
    http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...ndpost&p=229112)
The fact that you and I have the exact same NOA2 date actually makes me worry less, because maybe we were the first approved petitions to go into a newly-started bin, and they are working their way very slowly to the bottom.
I would like to believe that we will both be hearing something very shortly, probably both on the same day.
Let's stay in touch with each other if we hear anything, ok?

It will be nostalgia for some, and a preview for the curious others.
FINALLY, here are those pictures I mentioned.

Oh, and thanks again Andru, for what is still, in my opinion, the review which is most useful to future K-1 interviewees going through Montreal! (It will still be months before my turn gets here, unfortunately!)

    • I'm in the same situation, and it's becoming very frustrating.
Out of the 72 K-1's with NOA2s after April 1st, 2006 here at VisaJourney, here is a table of all the ones who have yet to hear anything after the NOA2 stage (provided everyone has updated their timelines).
      names9tb.jpg
(It is sorted in order of NOA2 date.)
My fiance and I take turns calling the NVC every day. (603-334-0700)
I have had them search using my CIS number (starts with WAC...)
I have had them search using the applicant and beneficiary names.
I've asked them what their procedures are when receiving mail. (And was told that the barcode gets scanned as soon as it arrives, but that doesn't sound right, according to what some others here at VisaJourney have said.)
Today is Day 47 since our NOA2, so we are half-way to that magical number of 90 days.
(I still hold out hope that packet 3 will arrive at my door miraculously, without prior notice.)
What makes no sense is that even if they are sent in batches, these lost Visas above are spread out pretty well.
Goldie, please PM me and let us know when you hear anything back from that person.
Anyone on that list who has advanced in the process but forgotten to fill in their timeline, please do so.

    • Hej, Pilot's Girl.

  9. I haven't experienced it yet, still awaiting my K-1, but from the information I could find...

    For Florida:

    http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/ddl/faqkeys.html#NUSC

(Visit the above link to access additional hyper-links.)

Under federal law, Canadian citizens are non-immigrants and are allowed to stay in the U.S. without obtaining INS documentation. Canadians without INS documents must provide proof of Canadian citizenship to be issued a Florida driver license or identification card by presenting two of the following documents:
    • Canadian passport
    • Canadian driver license
    • Original or certified Canadian birth certificate
    • Canadian Naturalization Certificate

All Canadian citizens will be issued an original or renewal driver license for two calendar years from the date of issue.

If you are not a Canadian citizen and have a Canadian driver license, you are required to provide the same proof of legal presence as any other non-U.S. citizen.

    Also relevant:

Name Change for Non-United States Citizens

If you have legally changed your name by marriage or court order, you must have your name changed on your Citizen and Immigration Services (CIS) documents. A receipt from CIS indicating form I-90 has been filed for a name change is acceptable for a name change on your driver license or identification card.

Canadian Citizens: If you have legally changed your name by marriage or court order, you must have your name changed on your Canadian license, and/or passport before applying for a name change on your driver license or identification card.
