I think I'm convinced it's better to just go and see what's needed afterwards. The more interesting parts of my medical background, I have some documents on already, so I'm thinking that should be good enough to get started.

I was wondering how to handle transferring my medical history from my Canadian family doctor to the doctor I'll have in the States. Would I need to physically take my information with me? Do I ask for a summary of my medical files or is there a better way to go about this? I'd worry less if my health history was straightforward. The secretary my doctor has is pretty horrendous, so I got no information from there.

Yup, no need for domicile proof. Tax return is good evidence and maybe throw in a couple recent pay stubs and/or a bank summary statement if you're nervous. If he's over the minimum income required, they won't find reason to ask for much more.

My SO (not self-employed) sent me his last tax return, W-2, letter from employer, last few pay stubs and a statement from his bank summarizing his accounts. Only tax return and W-2 was taken and I insisted he take the employer's letter since my SO bothered to get the thing haha.

Is your fiancé not currently living in the States? That's the only reason proof of domicile is required.

Oh, yup, the packet 3 response is only the e-mail with the 3 attachments they ask for. If they have your case, you should get an e-mail reply from them shortly!

What did you mail for Packet 3? I don't believe that's required for a K1.

After e-mailing packet 3, I got the immediate confirmation and then a packet 4 e-mail response 3 business days later (I never received an actual Packet 4 in the mail).

They very rarely ask for proof of relationship at Montreal (recommend you check out the consulate reviews if you haven't). The interview was an incredibly easy process since I basically knew exactly what to expect after reading posts on visajourney. Relax!

Your itineraries/passport stamps/any photos should be more than enough. I took a few letters and photos but none of it was asked for. They care about all the other documents and i-134 supporting evidence, so have those organized.

Yup, the site gets you pay before you can select an interview time. Also, as a heads up, the receipt pdf they provide works as proof of payment (I was asked for it at my interview).

When I booked my medical, the doctor requested to see my interview confirmation, so yes, you pay to get an interview time and the interview time allows you to book a medical.

You pay before booking an interview, after you've e-mailed a response to packet 3 and the consulate gets back to you.

I believe they have. If I remember correctly, they had the option to mail it to them, but that seems like much more of a hassle.

Yes, there was a signature at the bottom from them.

I picked mine up from a police station nearby and waited about 10-15 minutes for it. It came in a standard sized envelope (no wax seal anywhere) and had official police letterhead/crest at the top, a statement that my record was clear (with the RCMP national records) and an embossed stamp at the bottom.

Going by your timeline, you still have a bit of a wait until Montreal gets your case, but they eventually link you to the above. The police check has to be done within a year of the visa interview.

I just picked mine up the other day from a local police station. They printed me one immediately ($60, fingerprints were unnecessary). It says that they checked my name/birth date in the RCMP records, so it is nationwide.

Further education is a good idea. Look at job postings in CT that you're interested in and work on building up the skills they ask for. Also, once you move, you can start looking for a job (you just can't start working until you get your EAD) so don't think of it as just wasted time!

A week after that I e-mailed my DS-160/Passport scan/Checklist scan, Montreal sent an e-mail explaining that I can go ahead and book an interview and medical, which is what Packet 4 is about. If I were you, I'd just sit tight until next week. Montreal's been pretty speedy as far as I can tell.

I got an e-mail for Packet 4 instructions and that came about a week after I sent the Packet 3 e-mail. The interview fee is paid before you can access the interview scheduling option online.

Has it been longer than a week after sending Packet 3 for you?

Thanks for the reply JolyDan and congrats on your approval! I called to speak with appointment scheduling services just now and it's fine if I reschedule for a few months later. Montreal automatically extends the expiration date on the NOA2 as needed, but other consulates could ask you to fill a form out.

Hi everyone! So, I just received a job interview request for a really great position (and my fiancé and I could really use the money as a young couple). I also JUST booked my visa appointment for April 17th, after becoming fed up with my long job search here..

Would it be bad to simply, continually reschedule my visa appointment in Montreal at a later date until we find out about this job? If the job pans out, I'd probably want to postpone the visa appointment until August. Would I need to contact the consulate in Montreal and explain myself? Thanks for any help/advice!

Oh, sure. It states that you need "[...]originals and photocopies of the below documents (for each applicant) [...]", so only your fiancé, unless they're bringing children along too.

So we are on to the Checklist phase now of the process.

I just completed the D160 online and am reviewing the checklist and have some questions.

It states that we need to have everything on this checklist for both of us?

I am located in Canada and am marrying someone in California.

When I book my interview do I need to have everything on this checklist for myself and also for my fiance in California? So a Police check for both of us? photographs for both of us?

We did the photographs with the original submission in step one... Do they require 2 more for both of us? Only a police check and two passport photos for yourself, not the US petitioner.

Also when they ask for Evidence of Petitioners domicile in the United States what do they mean? This only applies if the US citizen is not currently living in the States.

Plus we had to do letters of intent when we first applied do we need to do them again and date them differently because this checklist states 30 days before the interview? Yes, you need brand new letters of intent (to be safe, we both did this). I just asked my boyfriend to send 5 of them, dated for every month between now and August, in case something comes up. If you used the visajourney template, all you do is change the date and address it to the Montreal consulate instead of Texas.

It's electronic now, so you don't mail them your Packet 3 response. You can start collecting the documents listed on the checklist. Packet 3 comes as a physical letter, and I got it within 2 weeks of NOA2, so I sent my e-mail after that. I've read some people don't get this letter as quick, and send the e-mail out as soon as they can get their MTL case number.

You only have to send the e-mail and collect all the relevant documents (to present at the interview). They used to do the DS-160 with paper, but it's electronic now.

For us, it took no time at all for NOA2 at CSC (2 weeks...). Assuming they don't have a reason to request more evidence from you, you should get it shortly. The time it takes for your application to get to NVC and then to your consulate varies. Nothing wrong with starting to gather supporting evidence for the i-134 right now.
