I was just at the DMV two days ago for the same reason and I currently have a GC (expiring in a couple days) and the extension letter. At first, the clerk was ready to put my info through with just the GC when I was like "um, you need this letter right? The expiry date on that card is too soon." Didn't want him or myself to get in trouble. He was like =/ yeah. I told him I'm sure I saw this I-797 letter being mentioned on the DMV's own site as acceptable. He ran around a bit with my stuff and came back unsure. I was like "I'm 100% positive this is acceptable, it's the only official proof that I'm allowed to be here". He runs around some more and finds someone to help him put it in the system. I think this added maybe 10 minutes tops. If anyone is worried, just save the DMV acceptable ID list to your phone or print it out and be politely insistent

For me, it's not a matter of bulk, but I am worried about losing or damaging it. I always take my GC/Letter with me when we're going to be further from home (there are numerous immigration checkpoints around).

@morgan.croft @CG&CD I'm seeing more Georgians here! @CG&CD The biometrics is kinda far this time if you live in ATL, it isn't the same location as before(i went to the other location previously), they moved to 3358B Chamblee Tucker Road. Took us 40mins to drive up there due to jam.
Welcome! This site has been extremely helpful, so it's the least I could do. I can try to update when I get bits of time here and there. I originally put in the date for chars' biometrics letter, I'm fixing that to be the appointment date below.
Also, hope you recover from that flu soon. My husband got seriously hammered by it a couple weeks ago (but I lucked out and never got it from him

Thanks for the replies! You know, I think to be safe I'll send a copy of my NOA and copies of the transcripts tomorrow by snail mail for peace of mind. We're not far from CSC, so it shouldn't take long or cost much. I'm assuming we send it to the exact same address. I'll probably add a really short table of contents.

As the NOA states "If you have not already done so, please provide supporting documents...". Would it be worthwhile to mail copies of the IRA transcripts I have now or should I just see what happens?

Woo! I got our NOA today in the mail from CSC (On the notice, it says our received date and notice date are both 01/17/2018).
I was a little nervous that we just submitted our HR Block tax returns and not the IRA transcripts (I suddenly realized that transcipts are NOT the same as the forms from HR Block about 2 weeks ago and ofc, they came in the mail today as well
). I'm guessing everything else looked to be in order.

I submitted mine 1/16/2018 to USPS and according to tracking, I see that it was delivered to CSC on 1/17/2018.

You get conditional approval at the end of the interview (they take your passport and give you a welcome letter) and go into some further processing afterwards. This is usually pretty short, but as long as you don't book a flight until you get your passport, you're golden.

To the best of my knowledge, that's a grey area and I've never read anything to indicate it would actually be a problem.

You have your MTL number? It should be fine, just don't rush ahead and book a medical or interview until you are given express permission.

Biggest difference I found between Canadian and US doctors was the availability of my own medical info.....Back in Canada (Kitchener ON to be exact)I had never actually seen my file or what they had written for my history or a print out of exact results of tests. I was lucky to have a 1/2 hr visit once a year or I went to Urgent Care when I couldn't; wait a week for an appt.
Here in the US, they practically serve it up to me on a silver platter, they explain every number and every result from every test done. I can access my results on line and they explain where my number falls in terms of norms and averages...love it
My boyfriend was explaining this to me the other day. He could easily round up his medical procedures/summaries just by looking online. That seems like a nice perk!
Your doctor could be eating the fees himself, it was at least several years ago that the province (Ont) stopped covering the cost of doing any paper work and doctors had to start billing for it.
I know just to have my doctor fill out any type of paper work no matter how big or small they were charging $70+
Interesting. None of my friends and family seemed to have heard about the fee for paperwork before. Still a little surprising and looking around on the internet, it seems like the fees are just as real if your doctor happens to close their practice while you're with them.

I had a decent amount of trouble too. I started volunteering almost immediately after moving to the US on a K1 fiancee visa. I volunteered at a couple places, the last of which was very relevant to my educational background (academic lab). After almost a whole year (so grateful to my wonderful SO for supporting me), they converted me to staff and I later used my direct lab supervisor as a reference for a job at the same company that he moved on to. A lot of elbow grease and a serious helping of luck.
