We're here (figuratively), standing in-line outside of Vermont Service Center building, and waiting on our applications to be approved; while those guys (Adjudicators) in there are watching Netflix.😂

To be serious, nothing is happening now at Vermont Service Center.

I love how my case was transferred to Vermont to balance workload or whatever, yet they seem to be approving in California and not at all in Vermont...LOL

(I posted this on jan 2018 filer forum too)

I sent my i-751 package on the end of dec 2017.

My NOA date is 1/2/2018 and the receipt number is WAC180940..... , california center. I just found out the receipt numbers of people who filled after me are like WAC180800.....?!!!even late jan 2018 filers receipt numbers are ahead of mine. Is this possible? I wonder why hmmmmm.

No biometrics yet, 2 extension letters so far.

Hey. Same thing with me... I received my NOA on Dec 28th, but my WAC number is bigger than most of late January fillers :(  (I will not surprised about Feb). WAC18089.. So weird

Oh you too? Its just so weird. And lots of jan filers are getting approvals now. I wish i filed in jan lol

Where are you seeing people with Jan NOA with numbers smaller then yours?

The number can actually be decoded to get your NOA date, so if their NOA is later, then the number should be later.

Thing is, you also get two receipt numbers, I got one with my I-751 and another for the biometrics letter. Only the one on the I-751 (and the same one that is on my 18 month extension) seem to correspond to the right date.

So maybe people are giving you the wrong one?

If you don't know how to decode it, it is first 5 digits after the letters. So mine are WAC18069. So 18 is the fiscal year. Goverment fiscal year starts on October 1st, so 2018 fiscal year started on October 1st, 2017. The next 3 digits are computer date from that fiscal year. So if you take in my case October 1st and add 69 days (counting October 1st) you end up on December 8th, which is my NOA date.

My other receipt number is 18049, which I think is even before I sent my application in November?  But it being over a year ago, I forget now haha.

Edit: I might be getting the numbers backwards, in terms of which came first....I don't think so...I can't find the other letter right now...

Interesting, thanks. Do you know what's the difference of applying for citizenship after 5 years with the green card instead of 3?

Only people who get a green card through immediate family can apply after 3 years. So that is why it requires more evidence of marriage, etc.

For 5 years, most other types of green card holders are eligible at that point.

This is my understanding at least.

    Hello,

I believe they just updated the underlying green card information. Since then I have had a few issues with using the nexus however. Going into Canada they told me it needed to be updated again, claiming that it had only been updated on the American end not the Canadian end while I was at the Fort Erie Nexus office. So I updated on my way out of Canada and had no problem going back into the US. Then the next time I went to Canada a few months later they once again said there was an error with the update and that I needed to go in again. That time I was at the Ivy Lea border crossing in the Thousand Islands where the Nexus office is not open very long hours and wasn’t able to stop in. The border agent once again let me in through the nexus line but made a fuss about the Fort Erie office not updating my card correctly. Since then I haven’t bothered trying to use it as I’m a bit sick of getting scolded at the border!!

Sorry I cant be more helpful, but from what the Nexus office workers told me you have to update it in person. And for some reason my issues only seem to be appearing when entering Canada not entering the United States.

Each time I went into the Nexus office the people were very nice, so I don’t expect them to yell at you. I think it’s more the actual crossing agents that get mad when you haven’t updated it.

Hope this helps, and I hope you have better luck updating yours than I have had!

Yeah I went in last week, they were nice. Mind you I sorta had the same thing. I was in the Montreal Airport and the Canadian officer at the desk said they had like an expired license etc. But when I look at the portal it does not show it and I know I gave my US license last time I was there to put the green card on file (when I got yelled at). So she updated a bunch of info on her computer. Then she told me to have a seat while she kept everything and she gave it to a US officer who came out 5 minutes later and told me I was good to go and was very nice. The Canadian officer did tell me when I left that if I had any issues again crossing into Canada to come back as nothing on my file should have made it not work like the agent said and if it happened again to come back and they would open an IT request with Ottawa.

When I crossed back into the US it was a bit of a pain as the Global Entry machine won't read my GC cause it is expired (mind you the machine says nothing and just does not do anything) so seems I just have to walk up to the counter and hand it to them.

    Hey everyone!

I am now able to answer my own question having been to Canada twice since my card expired at the end of February! The first time going into Canada the border officer just mentioned that I should not use the nexus card until I update my information as it does flag that the green card on file is expired. So I went to the nexus office at the land crossing (obviously not as easy for everyone to do unless you happen to be near one) and they easily updated my info in about 5 mins. Since then I have been through the nexus lane three additional times (by land only so far) and each time I got through with no problems. Just handed over my nexus, green card, and extension letter when pulling up to the booth!

    Hope this helps.

I know this post is several months old, but hoping you might still answer.

Do you know what they updated on your Nexus card? Was it just the expiry date or they add something about the letter? I called the Nexus number and they told me to change the expiry date in the portal to +1 year and then just make sure I have my extension letter and everything when I travel. When I crossed into Canada, I was told by CBSA that something on my Nexus is showing as expired so I need to go check it out with them.

So I am planning to go by the Nexus office this coming week as I am near one (I only come to Canada once a year now and live in the southern US so none near me) and I now have a 18 month letter (did not yet change expiry to 18 months). I am just worried that they are going to yell at me or something. Because looking at what other have said, the person on the phone should not have told me to change the date in the portal. But it did seem logical to me since the letter says it is extended.

    Thanks

Did anyone else get an updated extension letter even if they already had an 18 month one?

I got one initially that was on plain paper and was a courtesy notice saying my letter was sent to my lawyer. I don't have a lawyer, seems a lot of people got similar letters.

Someone posted a few days ago that they released a press release saying it was an error and they are sending out new ones. The one I got today is the new one. There is an explanation ontop.

Was your original 18 month letter right or?

Here is the link to the press release.

I called yesterday and voiced my concerns ( not a Tier 2) about the extension not being watermarked and the legal blurb etc.

After I asked if the original would come to me since I was representing my self, and was told it’s possible🤷🏼‍♀️

I was eventually told to carry both the 12 & 18 mth notices along with my expired green card. I was also told she would attach my 18 mth notice to my 12 mth notice 🤷🏼‍♀️ whatever that means...feeling it was pointless I didn’t inquire further!

Well I will let you know if I hear back over email. It seems like they don't really know what is going on...

Whats the difference between plain (white)  or watermark 18 mounts extension ?

    thank you!

The plain white one is a coutesy copy and not the actual notice. It states that the original was sent to the attorney listed on the G-28 form submitted with the application.

Thing is, I did not use an attorney, so I should have gotten the original. The same thing has happened to some others on here.

  9. So I received the wrong letter on plain paper with the legal notice saying the original was sent to my lawyer listed on form G-28. I didn't file a G-28 form and am not using a lawyer.

I called USCIS today and they told me that it does not show a G-28 on file and no attorney either. So I was transferred up the chain to an immigration officer and when they called me back and finally understood my issue, they gave me an email to email about the issue. And beyond that didn't really say much else. Hopefully this works and someone gets back to me.

Thing is I asked what I should put in the email and they were like "I can't tell you what to write, but that is the email you need to contact".

I was going to scan the letter and include it, but I forgot to attach it before I sent it...but I think I described the issue pretty well.

If anyone else calls and gets a different answer, would love to know! Email I was told to email was lockboxsupport@dhs.gov but I would call so we can see if maybe others will get better info maybe? I'm not really sure why the immigration officer couldn't initiate a new send herself. If someone hears something else please share!

I just realized I got an auto reply from them and it says it is just for stuff sent to the lock boxes. But maybe they send out the notices as well since it is basically a new NOA1 for the I-751

    Guess we will see!

We received our 18mth extension letter Aug 24, on white paper with the legal notice at the top and no we did not use a lawyer 🤷🏼‍♀️

Yeah same here....going to have to try and call USCIS and see what is up....but we all know how it is with calling them...

Not sure if maybe anyone else has called them yet for this and what kind of reply they got?

That’s good for you. I were going to do the same. I’m living in UK temporary. Ticket bought yesterday, just to going back to Houston to get i155 stamp, difficult to made info pass appointment but going to walk in regardless. Somehow the extension letter came by today. Plan is still going back to Houston although extension is here. Perhaps can apply the re-entry permit or N400 in order to save the hassles in purposely paying a trip back to US or paying more money for permit and etc.

Just a caution (As I don't know your situation) but make sure you don't stay too long outside the US or your GC could be revoked. If you are spending more time outside the US then inside the US, they are allowed to revoke it. So might want to apply for citizenship if that is what you want to do, as that is not as easy to revoke (I didn't think it could be but seems there are some cases, but that is more extreme things around criminality etc.).

I have read this on another thread of this happening and they stated they called to confirm they do not have an attorney on file.  We also have that same wording on ours and our copy is the "white" copy, not the watermarked one.

I think I will have my husband call next week.  I don't know how much of a big deal it is, but if they are going to give us these problems with these silly little mistakes, then we might as well bother them.  The countdown to the N-400 is on!  Only 118 more days!  Three months, three weeks and five days!

Yes, mine was a white paper one as well, not the watermarked one.

Kinda sucks...pay all this money to remove conditions for them to not even really do anything and then us paying even more money to apply for the N-400.

I got what was supposed to be my  18 month extension letter today..

Does everyone's new letters have this wording?  (Note: we do not have an attorney for i751)

"We have mailed an official notice about this case... to the mailing preferences you chose on Form G-28, Notice of Entry of Appearance as Attorney. This is a courtesy copy, not the official notice."

I just got the same letter as you. Saying:

"We have mailed an official notice about this case... to the mailing preferences you chose on Form G-28, Notice of Entry of Appearance as Attorney. This is a courtesy copy, not the official notice."

I didn't use a lawyer or anything else, sent all paperwork on my own. Never filled a G-28.

Did you ever end up calling them for this or anything? Or get any more info from them?

I just got it in the mail now.

    Thanks,

    Brent

Your right.. ive got tons of junk mail n the most important letter wer missing i just dont understand how they mishandled this important letter i wanna cry in anger but im glad you reply gave me little hope that it wil arrive today

Did you get the notice with Informed Delivery? I have noticed that often things they say will come today come the day after. I even saw it says on the report missing item to give it up to 7 days. Seems the pictures/notices are done up stream in the chain before it gets to the local post office. So I guess sometimes it does not go out when they think it will.

    Hi Guys!

Im planning to travel Outside of the country and I haven’t received my Permanent residency yet.. do I have to take the letter with the 12 month extension to the airport? I haven’t gotten the 18 month extension either :( and I applied in Dec/17.

    Thanks!

Yes, you need to bring your expired green card and the extension letter. The 12 month one is fine for now as it is 12 months from the date of expiry on your card. If it is going to be closer to that date then it could be an issue if you have not gotten the 18 month one, but still should be a bit.

    Are you using an Attorney?
