Congratulations!
- I think that some time 5 years ago I applied online for a federal reserve position and checked off the status US citizen (because there was no choice for green card holders - only visa holder or US citizen). I think.. I don't recall...I am very surprised that this didn't come up in the interview? Or did it?

Recent Las Vegas ceremony. A VJ member who was there posted a link to a video of the ceremony.

Thanks for sharing my post JimmyHou!

Last Thursday I took my oath! It was such an amazing experience and it was great to be part of a 'once a year' ceremony that happens at the Las Vegas City Hall.
The ceremony was shown live on TV, and the broadcast has been shared here:
Feel free to check it out!
Thank you to all who have been part of this journey and been there for each other. VJ is a great community. Couldn't have done it sanely without you all

Thank you DTLVbrit. It is indeed very helpful.
No updates on my case. I am just being optimistic and wanted to find out as I can utilize this waiting period to obtain the missing documents.
Good idea. I am sure things will happen soon enough. I just think you got unlucky and got stuck in this weird part of the process. I wouldn't worry too much - I am hopeful something will happen soon.

Folks, How do I obtain/gather complete list of all the documents which may be asked during the interview (filed based on 5 years rule).
Hey! There is a good list here:
It's a few posts down, and while extensive, it's better to be prepared to show all evidence. How you gained residency may come up, so be prepared to back that up.
I also applied on the 5 year rule. I came via a K1 but divorced after 5 years of marriage. I had a copy of the marriage license and certificate, along with the official copy of the divorce decree, but that never came up. All that was required was my Green Card, Passports, and Drivers License. I also gave the IO a copy of my selective services confirmation, but he said it probably wouldn't be needed as I was over 31.
Any update on your case yet?

Adding in my oath date as it had not been added yet

Congratulations. Happy for you as you have been good contributor on this forum.
Thanks FSI. I really hope everything starts moving for you - I saw your update earlier! Hopefully that means good things

Happy day! I had my interview this morning and was approved.
The interview itself was great. I arrived 30 minutes early, but wasn't seen until about 30 minutes past my time (which was ok as I got to read for a bit and relax). When I was called in, asked to stand and confirmed my answers would be the truth under oath. I handed over my 3 UK passports, green card, ID, and evidence of selective service sign up even though it was't needed. After the IO returned from making a copy, we started going through the N400. I mentioned my speeding ticket from 2010 and he told me that it was not considered a crime and crossed it off. There was no questions regrading my divorce.
After going over the N400, I answered 6 questions correctly, completed the speaking and written portions, and the IO confirmed he had recommended me for approval. He then asked if I was free on the 25th of this month to go to a special oath ceremony at the Las Vegas city hall that will be shown on TV! I was so excited! I was sent back to the waiting room to wait for the oath letter while another IO confirmed everything. 15 minutes later, I left with my oath letter, and the confirmation that I had passed!
I am so so so happy. I cannot wait for the 25th. It's going to be a very special day
Thanks for all the support everybody

There is also an option on the biometrics form when you have your appointment
-
There's a chance you'll need that marriage certificate. It's directly related to how you got your green card. Applying under The five-year rule exempts you from having to prove that you're currently in a legitimate relationship with a US citizen, but it does not exempt you from having to show that you got your green card through a legitimate relationship. If I were you I would certainly do everything I could to get a certified copy of the marriage certificate just in case. I would think that a copy should be good enough, but you never know what they will ask for. If you got married in the US it should be easy enough to get a copy from the registrar of the town in which you got married.
Thanks for the response - as I said above, I do have a certified copy of the marriage license which was given back to us once we showed we were married, and this has the info regarding date, location, etc etc of when the marriage took place. Hopefully that would be ok along side the copy (not certified) of the marriage certificate.
I am out of time to get a copy before my interview (Monday) so hopefully this won't be an issue
-
I had interview in Denver last Thursday, of course every IO and office is different, but I was not asked to show any tax related documents, IO asked me about my passports and GC, I put them in a front of him, he just looked at my GC to confirm A# and didn't even touch my passports. Asked me about my husband, his address, his job, if we have kids, my job, my address, if I did my taxes. Didn't ask for any documentation. Went through the entire form N400 and ask the same questions again. Then we started to talk about weather, the town I live in. Just small talk...
I don't think you should worry of not having certified copy of your marriage certificate. I don't think the IO would ask about it and if he/she does, show them the regular copy. They probably have it on the file anyway. They might ask you why you got divorced so quick and dig there a bit. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing! I do have a certified copy of the marriage license that shows the marriage date, location etc - so hopefully that would be ok.
And we were married for a total of 5 years (separated around 4 years 8 months), and everything ended very amicably. It wouldn't be any kind of issue to explain anything to the I/O regarding the divorce - although I guess I wouldn't have assumed 5 years was so quick?
-
My interview wasn't easy like other folks. The IO asked me tons of questions like have you arrested before, where and when and why even I don't have one. I paid the traffic citation last week and went DMV yesterday to have a 10 year history in case I need it. Yes, it is needed, the IO asked for the tickets and I handed over the dmv history and showed the receipts. She kept the original dmv record. Firstly she was mistakenly asked me is it DUI. I said No, that was a speeding ticket and she insisted me it is, there is a point in my history from my last ticket. After she opened and find out from the book (vehicle codes), she agreed. My last name and my kid last name are not same so I need a name change process. I thought that would be a breeze through naturalization. My wife wasn't with me and IO asked where is she and I said she was at work (even though I filed under 5 years rule IO still asked about marriage and resident members of my current home. Finally I got an approval recommendation from her after many struggling had been made. I am supposed to be happy 100% but I set it 90% only because of the impossibility of name change in naturalization. Sweat out!
Good luck to all VJers who waiting for their interview.
Interesting - thanks for sharing that experience. That's weird about the traffic stuff...
For me, I am preparing all my documents for applying under the 5 year rule (I am divorced after 4 years of marriage). I have:
- All years of Tax history (but a printout of 2014 as I haven't received the transcript yet)
- Divorce Decree (certified)
- Green Card
- Drivers License
- 3 UK passports (2 expired)
- Selective Services registration proof
- 2 passport sized photos
I do have a ticket for less than $500 that was paid years ago. I have a print out of the public court record of the fine being paid.
I am also a little concerned as I don't have a certified copy of my old marriage certificate from the married that ended (that brought me to the US). I have a copy - but not certified. It seems like I shouldn't have to present it though as I am applying under the 5 year rule and we are no longer married. I am also worried about the 2014 tax return, as I only have a printout - not a transcript.
Any thoughts?
-
Congrats to everyone who has passed so far! I am excited for my interview on Monday
Quick question re: the civics test - with answers where there are multiple choice answers (such as What does the Constitution do? - where the answers are; sets up the government; defines the government; protects basic rights of Americans), do you have to say all three? Or are those the examples of accepted answers?
-
Congrats!
Happy to see that you're moving forward quickly now!
Thank you! I am beyond excited
-
Got my interview letter in the mail yesterday! I'm set for the 8th June at 8:05am
-
Had my FP on april 6th. Still no online update. I called them and they said that they can't tell me anything until it's been 90 days. Should I be worried?
It's frustrating, but try not to worry. Some people had theirs in March and haven't heard yet. Hang in there!
On April 29, 2015, we scheduled an interview for your Form N-400, Application for NaturalizationAwesome - now I am moving! I'll update when I get the letter!
-
Ah finally - got the notice of being inline! I guess the second Bio appointment helped
-
Thanks sunnylife - I am hoping to get that notification today/tomorrow. Fingers crossed
-
Hi guys,
I have done my biometrics on 03/23 and still until today, I haven't received any notices, emails or text messages from the USCIS saying my case is in line for interview.
I wonder if it is normal because based on the information board, it looks like many people received their in line for interview notice within a week after the bio is done.
I am very sure that, I have no ticket violations, my name is clear, no criminal history at all and, this just makes me confused very much.
Anybody has had any similar experience like me before? Would you want to share with me or if somebody can answer me with your case?
Your comments are highly appreciated!
I had my biometrics on the 2nd March, and heard nothing.
Then, a few weeks ago I got a second notice for biometrics in the mail, and I completed it again this past Friday. I am clueless to why that happened and no one on the phone could provide me with an answer.
I'd say typically people are "in-line" within a week or so of their appointment, however, there is the odd case where it seems to take up to a few months.
Hang in there!
-
Good Luck
Hopefully you will get update soon. I am still waiting with no updates.
Thank you!
It took about an hour and a half for the whole thing. Glad it's done again - I'm feeling like this could mean I am back on track.
Unfortunately they couldn't answer any question I had about why it needed to be redone
I'm sorry yours is taking so long
-
Doing my second Biometrics appointment today... Hope this time it works out
-
This is really frustrating it is nearly a month but no fr**** movement in the case. I dont like this slowness. I can't go on vacation.
I understand your frustration, but at least you are in-line. It's been almost 8 weeks since my bio, and nothing.
Looking at other Newark, NJ times, it seems it can take at least 2 months+ before your interview notice.
Just try and relax and take a vacation! This shouldn't stop you going on a trip
-
I just realized I am one of the last applicants in queue for in line / interview scheduled status. Keeping my fingers crossed.
(not sure if this is because of name spelling change request I made on the application)
I hear you. It's possible that has delayed you a bit. I'll keep hoping for you!
I'll go to my second bio on Friday and ask what's going on for me. This has delayed me about 2 months or so :/

I received a letter today saying that I have been denied an expedited case because I have an appointment coming up for biometrics. I completed my bio on the 2nd March.
1 - I didn't request an expedited case - I told USCIS that I have already done my biometrics and they were going to put a service request in to figure it out.
2 - I guess I have to redo biometrics this week
3 - I'm frustrated that this is happening.
Not really worth mentioning, but based on others timelines at my field office, I would have had my interview last week.

I really feel for you FSI. I wish there was some news for you around the corner. You said you had an info pass appointment, right?
