  1. My son has been here with me for 3 years, however he is going to college back in Canada. How is this going to affect his naturalization process? Does anyone else ahve any experience with this? He will maintain his address with us here in teh USA and of course spend holidays and summers at home, but I am afraid that the 'continuous residency' will be affected by his absence for school.

I mistakenly thought he could apply for naturalization with me at the 3 year mark which is now b4 he goes away and we would all be good since he was initially on my application as a child under 18 but now that he is 18 it seems to have all changed!!

    Any thoughts?

  2. never even though about that ...the tourist thing being fraud

im just so tired and killer headache over it all Im not thinking straight, I just want to hug that baby and never put him down and Im 5 hours away :(

i am certain i can get both parents of the child to agree to adoption or at the very least a custody agreement, its the best thing for the baby, i know maternal grandma loves the boy she just cant do it alone with another child of her own at home, working full time....

i dont know, maybe I will just bring him here for the summer so everyone there can get thier heads screwed on straight and thier feet planted on the ground.

I think they are all just overwhelmed with it all right now.

mom and dad arent together, mom lived with her mom, her mom threw her out recently, im not even 100% who has the boy at the moment and its killin me!!! dad (my son) is in the midst of moving so i cant even get ahold of him!!!

its strange tho that a child who is adopted wouldnt be given the same consideration as status as a child of the parent who adopted him/her as would be if it were biological. I guess I can appreciate the reasons...to circumvent people from 'adopting' relatives who wouldnt otherwise qualify...

I guess a couple lawyers are needed, family and immigration. I did mine on my own but I dont think I cna handle this one alone.

Do things change once I am a citizen? Or same rules apply?

  3. I havent delved too far into it, have to talk it over with both parents and the other grandmother, but...we seem the only viable option for this little baby.

I breezed over info, he isnt an orphan obviously, but we also haven't had custody of him for 2 years, he is only 4 months old.

If I brought him here, as a visitor (?) with us having custody, for 2 years then adopting him, then applying for all the stuff, or should we adopt, bring him here as visitor.....

omg such a nightmare for such a precious baby. Parents both too young and immature to handle this :(

other gramma also a single mom with another child at home, doesnt need the extra burden, but in the end it may be a custody fight. I just want to know if I fight and win will I be able to bring him home?

My son will agree in a heartbeat, the babys mom likely too, she is realizing she cant do it alone....but the maternal gramma may be a tough sell.

just so heartbroken for this little boy...everyone loves him, everyone wants him, but the only ppl who are properly capable of raising him are probably not going to be allowed!!!

  4. hey you cant beat paid for!

I'm on the 'south side' in Independence....unless I win a lottery there is no chance of having a house paid for over here :( but its close to work so that is a huge plus. The kid is in an awesome school thats what matters most I guess...home is what you make it :)

Welcome to Ohio, go Cavs/Browns/Indians and all that ####### LOL

  5. It is actually considered tacky to open the gifts at the reception, especially gift cards. Gifts should be opened the next day, probably best with family and bridal party, but the gift cards are to be opened in private, just bride and groom.

My totally classless aunt opened her gifts at the reception including cards, announcing how much $ was in each card, every guest was appaled (sp) at her lack of tact and class (they knew her tho they shouldnt have been surprised lol).

Ppl who do leave for honeymoon immediately after the reception would entrust a family member to pack up the gifts and deliver them to thier new residence the next day so they are waiting for them post honeymoon for the opening and thank you cards to be written, of course thegiftcards go with the bride and groom.

  6. First date March 2 2002 Warrant, LA Guns, Firehouse.

He knew the band, got free tix.

Our friend that introduced us flew from Tampa to Cleveland, then they drove together (10 hours thru a blizzard) to Sault Ste. Marie where we met officially for the first time, in the lobby of a Holiday Inn. w0o0oho0

The concert was awesome, hair metal rules.

Our first dance at our wedding was Firehouse Love of a Lifetime followed by Warrant Heaven. :D

First wedding anniversary this Sunday.....hmmm we will hafta do something 'hair metal' worthy

  7. Bad day from Daniel Powter. Also on her playlist: They Might Be Giants, Jamie Cullum, Cheetah Girls(ick), and Shania Twain(bigger ick).

ah they might be giants is a good grp, and jamie cullum has some good songs too.. shania, well... no comments.. canadian country, yehaw eh?

There are cowboys in Canada , we can have country music too *kick*

  8. well my parents are on thier 3rd have been trading in every couple years, they love them, put 1000s of miles on them.

Dad is a very carfeful shopper arounder, test drives, reads the hell up on things (almost to the point of annoying), has extensive mechanical knowledge, and still just traded in on another so...they cant be all that bad :P

  9. well, we had discussed it with each other, he with his parents, me with mine. I guess I didnt really have an issue of the family accepting it or not, as I had been on my own since I was 16, family was used to me making crazy decisions and stuff :) THe only one who wasnt acceptant was my eldest sister, but she has since come around. It wasnt the marrying him part, it was just, in her mind, another crazy decision I had made, and that if he loved me he would move to Canada. I had been married b4, had kids, 1 kid refused to move here, stayed on his own back home, she thought I was a bad mom for allowing it...hey, *I* didnt make the laws that said he could decide to mve out at 17 but anyways...

We had dated long distance for 2.5 years b4 filing the k-1. It was just a natural progression of the relationship. My kids had met him by this point but the rest of the family had not. I would always come here to see him, he didnt come up to Canada to see me except for the first face to face. Not because he didnt want to, he worked weird hours and I had the better vehicle, more opportunity to travel, and heh, there wee no kids in the house :) Family started thiking he was some kind of felon that couldnt cross the border (as were 99% of all former boyfriends and spouses lol),

it wasnt until they met him for my brothers wedding that they realized why I was so hung up on him. Even my father who never ever made an effort with anyone I dated and barely acknowledged my ex-husband for the 12 years we were married, made a conscious effort to sit with us and chit chat. I knew we were cool then....but my older sister was still cold and wouldnt speak to me (she was famous for this, went 2 years without talking to me for leaving home at 16 heh). My family didnt attend the wedding, but i didnt expect them to. It was my 2nd tme around, it ws in the middle of February, and they all live in the frozen north a good 10 hour drive (not fliers). They all are employed in jobs that are winter related, bad time for me to pick to get married, but 90 days is 90 days. My boys were here for it, thats what mattered to me. Had a HUGE fight with my older sister on the phone at xmas time....then an email a few weeks later congratulating me, she actually got over whatever it was that was bothering her, realized that this was not a crazy act on my part, it was real and the kids were ok with it all. My eldest is 18 and wouldnt be living with me even if I was still in Canada, the younger one is here now, and I didnt abandon them (or her).

Now hubbys family on the other hand......

I went for the visa interview in october, his mom and I were shopping some time after that, I pointed out the fabric I would like to make a wedding gown from.....she went out and bought it LOL. I had the wedding gown fabric b4 the formal proposal. He took his mom with him to buy the ring...she helped pick a gorgeous one (by gorgeous I mean huge), his dad cried when I showed him, they call me thier little girl, and spoil the hell out of me :) I was one of 4 girls in my family in Canada, now I am an only daughter..it kicks ### :))))

Honestly, his family is so warm and loving and caring, all they want is for thier boys to be happy, they see I make him happy, thats all that is important to them.

  10. awesome!

after spending 4 hours yesterday with the curning iron to get ready to go to the theatre then an xmas party, and not wanting 'bar-hair' all I could think about was my mom doing my sisters hair in rags when we were kids (I had a brush cut lol). Now mine is over 4 feet long and I just cant spend tha kind of tme on hair...i am afraid of a perm (well the cost of one anyways) but love the curls...I am going to attempt this tonight. I just dont know if its going to be possible to do my own as it would be to do to someone else....its a LOT of hair

  11. ya, its aboot time!!!

everything seemed to take FOREVER with this thing. 489 days from petition to visa!!!! stupid canadian govt lays off 200+ people in the birth certificate office when they are already 6 months behind!!?!?!?! I was stuck in birth certificate hell for so long which held everything up! sheesh

9 months to adjust status, which wasnt really bad because I had the AP and EAD, so i could travel and work, but the guy interviewing my son told me that it takes longer the more crossngs you have ??? so maybe thas what it was, who knows, maybe it was te 3 name changes in my life, maybe it was multiple residences in the last few years in Canada....not sure, all I know is we are in the home stretch now and September 7 2008 is marked on my calendar :)

  12. Luckily I had the cute little yellow booklet that they record vaccinations in from birth for both me and my son, that was good enough for Dr. S. There was one missing but all I had to do was call my clinic back home and they faxed him proof of the vaccination so I was all set, didnt need to have any shots or any boosters.

yes you do need cash, I didnt have any, expected interac duh, and had to run up to McDonalds about a block away if that, there was an ATm in there.

  13. I get told I dont 'count as an immigrant because I am white' or because I speak English LOL. I tell em how I had to go thru the same process as any other immigrant....they generally dont believe me but it gives me the opportunity to say 'o, so you dont have a problem with immigrants, you are really just a racist' :)

2 weeks ago I was at my nail salon, and some asshat was in there ranting and raving that his wife was 'ignored' in favour of a white client. If any one goes to nail salons you know about sign in sheets, this day they were particularly busy and they accidently skipped a name on the sheet, and it was his wife. Instead of saying something she left and went home, her husband comes in like a raving lunatic playing the race card (wife was black), and accusing the people in the salong of being racists, that white clients always get in ahead of blacs (funny I have had to wait my turn before and there have been blacks and asians and whites ahead of me, maybe i dont know the secret code or something). then the idiot yells out 'Everybody here better have thier greencard and proof they are here legally because Im coming back here tomorrow with INS.'

At which point I turned to him and said 'I dont have a green card' heh he ignored me tho, but I reallllllllllllllllllllllllly wanted to get into it with him. Here he is going on about racist ####### and he pulls that out...how racist was that? Just because they are asian, they must be immigrants, or have questionable status. I was offended as an immigrant. Jerk.

He was lipping off about how he served the country in the military, and worked for the federal gov't and was going to shut the place down because they were racists lol....the only racism flying around was his.

Being a white immigrant with no accent (hardly an accent lol) its easy to blend in and hear the way people do talk about immigrants and foreigners tho. They arent shy to be mouthy when they think they are in 'safe' company. heh

  14. Just read this on the case status update page. This is listed for my son, mine still says they recieved the AOS application and will let me know when the interview is LOL. I had the interview in AUgust!!! O well, they wouldnt approve him until they approved me and they boh have the same Dec 7 'touched' date so..... w0o0oho0o0 He can come with me next month for a visit (he misses his friends and girlie friend terribly)

  15. The world is a competitive place. If America wants to focus on low-skilled illegal immigrants and turning the country into a hybrid English-Spanish speaking nation, then so be it. Unfortunately what this may mean for Americans is that more and more professionals will look at migrating in other cashed up English speaking countries like Canada, Australia and the UK.

If Canada were in fact, an English speaking country. However, it is an officially bilingual country, as we caved to the French. How can anyone cave in to the French!?!?!? bien esti collis tabernac!!!!!!

  16. Old: a silver bracelet given to my mom as she stood in a wedding when she was 17, she gave to me when I was a teen.

    New: gown, shoes, husband

Borrowed: earrings from my good friend

Blue: a ring from same good friend with a blue stone

Also had the penny in my shoe from the groom s father, from the year of my husbands birth :)

  17. manners

and customer service, especially in retail. I am so sick of being ignored when I walk into a store and feeling like i am inturrupting thier mportant gossip session to ask for assistance. i have also been battling one company to exchange a pair of clogs I bought in AUGUST. Insane, customer is always right/ not here...here they just ignore you!!!

On another note.....anyone else know about Limited Edition Humpty Dumpty POUTINE flavoured chips ??????

  18. my youngest son followed to join, but he did all the paperwork with me at the same time as I did, we just knew he woudlnt be crossing iwth me, I also listed the elder one, but he is still in Canada.

The fees incurred for my son that is here now were the $100 for the visa, he had to go to the consulate for an intervew (he came with me), he had to hav ethe medical, and he had to activate the visa at the border just like I did, $6, and apply for AOS once he got here, pay that fee, and have his interview.

I dont know about filing an initial petition because as I mentioned I had listed him initially on mine.

The elder one, is also listed and if he decided to move here before he turns 21, he would have to do the same things, medical, consulate interview, aos, etc.

    Hope this helps somewhat

  19. i moved with uhaul several times, in town, and once long distance from northern to southern ontario, never had a problem with anything,

when i moved here, i used uhaul also, but was a trailer not a truck, I sold most of my stuff, we didnt need 2 of. No problems here and the price was right.

When I moved my son here, we didnt need a uhaul, I rended a large SUV from AVIS and it was perfect, a mini van would have been better but they had none on the lot
