There are also some people, paper filers like me, who only got one status on the USCIS website since filing their N400: "Case Was Received", even after doing biometrics, etc
I read on earlier threads that some people never got an update beyond Case Was Received until they had their interview scheduled!
3 hours ago, Jon Snow said:I am in the same boat here ... no word since my biometrics on 8/8 .... status: 'case received' ...
Same here. All i see is case received when i check online. Even though I'm done with biometrics which took less than 10 mins. They did four fingers of one hand and took a crappy pic which looked like a mug shot. Then gave me the booklet and i was out of the door. Even though my FO is the slowest and I would be one of the last ones here, still would be nice to see something instead of no updates at all since the beginning. Maybe I should move to ND or other places with fast processing times

The online access code is just a random set of numbers emailed to you every time you want to sign in (ELIS asks for your email address when you sign up for an account). It's not any sort of special code, and changes with a new email message and new access number each time you want to sign in to your account.
I just suggested to the poster above to try to sign up for an ELIS account to see if they can see anything on their case since the person seems anxious about receiving online notices/not receiving online notices.
I agree that it's most likely they won't see anything if they sign up for an ELIS account, as I told them, since they mailed in their application---but, if they really want to try...well, ya never know.
@Going through Online access code is different than the "one-time" password you are referring to. One time password lets you log in but in order to see your case, if someone didn't file online, they ask for Online Access code (which according to them) is sent in the mail.
I just printed n400 and filed that day without even looking properly or knowing that one can file online and also because i was away from this site for a while. On the paper application itself, there is an optional question asking if you know your account id, put it there. Which i didnt
. Maybe if i have done that, then my NOA would have had that online access code according to the sample image they have online. But i am not sure.
So right now after signing into my elis account with one time password, i cant see anything about the case because i didnt file online.
Other people mentioned somewhere on this site and other that once you have NBC/paper version then elis wont work for them ....

you can try to make an account on the ELIS site and see if it will allow you to view anything once you plug in your existing case number (n400 receipt number)--worth a shot.
4 hours ago, MEXIAMERICAN said:will i get any updates at all or can i check on that site. thanks so much
Once you file paper version, then uscis.gov site is the only way you can see the updates if there are any since it doesnt work half the time.
Elis account would only work if you filed N400 online. I mean one can still make an elis account but NBC number wont let you access it.
It asks for some online access code which you wont have once you filed paper.**If someone can call them after making an Elis account and ask for the code then maybe you can access it but i am not sure and dont wanna deal with them over the phone so i never tried

So, there is a letter for being 'in line' ?
@Jon Snow....standard procedure for people who file through mail/paper version:
1) you send in your n400 application through mail.
2) they receive the case and send you text or email if u signed up for it. Otherwise everyone gets the letter regardless.3) you may or may not get biometrics text or email but everyone gets the letter because you need it for that day.
4) then you will get the "in line" text or email and the letter for being inline (just because not everyone sign up for texts or email alerts)
5) similarly you get the text or email for interview being schedule and of course the letter which you need to take with you.
Now this has been the standard procedure till 2016. I dont know if things changed recently.
if you find any updated information please share.....Thanks.

@peachlings and @Jon Snow and @lover5..........since we are in the same situation. I got some info from the people who went through the same process in the past year or so. Net thing, we will get text/email for "In-line" next along with the "in line" letter. And then of course the text/email for Interview along with the letter in the mail. So hang in there

Sure, it is the application number on the NOA. On the top left hand corner. Appears under N-400, Application for Naturalization
Thanks again. I just checked. It's the application number that starts with NBC.....
I did the same thing u did but for some reason, it only shows that they received my case online and nothing after that. Biometrics letter came in the mail but still nothing changed. So i guess they are lazy over there in the office and dont wanna update all the cases -

Hi Jon Snow, you're right.. I actually filed by paper and did get an inline update online. If it helps - this is what I did.. a few days after filing I created an online account on egov uscis. Then I got my NOA and added my tracking number after which it showed my biometrics appointment. At that point I think I added email and mobile notifications by checking those boxes with Y.. and after about a week after my biometrics I got a text message and email that a change had been made. So it now shows inline for interview on my account.
Can you please tell me what tracking number are you referring to. is it the same thing as case number you mean? thanks.

The application on court-related matters covers your entire life, not just the past 3 or 5 years....since the question on the form is "if you EVER..."
Will it matter in my interview? No, I know that... Will they require official documentation on it anyhow? Yes.
Oh okay okay. Since they apologized and admitted their mistake, I'm sure you will get the sealed letter real soon.

Anyone who filed paper-based who can tell me if their 'myuscis' account got updated in July at all after NOA?

I'm just so....I don't even have the words right now. And you know, I told my husband a few days ago "I bet something's wrong with it" when they mailed them out. Now I'm stressed out about it again. At least for a few nights, though, I slept well.
Sorry to hear what u must be going through. I'm sure u will get the sealed letter soon.
Also, my understanding was for n400....they want to know if something happened etc etc ever since you became permanent resident. All this happened before your GC and you already cleared it during GC days so I doubt they would ask about it this time. -

I'm having the opposite problem. The ELIS website isn't updating for me, but the my.uscis is. 😂
ohhhh
...... then I guess all we can do is wait and watch till their tech ppl can step on it and start updating things properly. They should get rid of one site since they clearly cant handle both

Hear hear! My status still shows last updated 7/19 and that my case was received. Nothing else.
Question for those earlier paper filers: how did you find out that you were inline for interview? Will our status eventually change online or did you get an "inline for interview" letter in the mail?
Paper filers usually get text/email and can see the status that they are "in-line" along with the letter in the mail. For some reason they aren't updating myuscis site and I guess that's why I didn't even get the text or an email about my biometrics letter even though I turned both notifications on.

Got another email this morning saying my case needed my action, and to log in. Eek, RFE?? Logged in and found this, dated yesterday...
"We scheduled your interview
Read the letter we mailed you for the interview date, time, and location"
😮😮😮😮
congrats @Bsze......awesome news
Since i didnt file online, i wont be able to check it in elis account updates. So all i can see is the case status on my.uscisgov which is still showing that they mailed me my NOA and even though I received my biometrics letter as well. They should get rid of this site and stick to just one.
-
@Bsze if you received the exact same msg as @Going through did, you both will get the interview letters. So Please look at the msg you received because online filers getting two diff type of msgs...One that says you are "in line" and the other one like @Going through got.
However it can take anywhere from 10 business days to one month to receive the letter looking at the discussions on the other site depending on how busy your field offices are. So give us the good news when u get the letter.Cheers....

She will have NO problem whatsoever re-entering. Make sure she has the extension letter along with expired card to show to at the airport. They will let her in.
also, they will give her time to respond and move forward with her case accordingly but that's a separate issue and she can deal with it once she's back. -

Noticed this updated in my case status this morning---dated from last night:
Interview Scheduled
USCIS has scheduled your interview appointment and will mail you the appointment notice.
Congrats @Going through that's great news. :)

Right? I remembered it being a fairly nice process there from my removal of conditions biometrics last year (did I really need my fingerprints and photo taken again just a year later?!). The staff were really nice to me - I think the baby helped
Yep, got my study booklet. Another question - does everyone have to take the English test regardless of country of nationality?
yes everyone has to take English test regardless of the country of nationality

3 hours ago, Going through said:Yes. When they gave it back to me, I walked over to the security desk and asked if they were sure they didn't need this back...when they said no, I then joked "So you mean I filled out info myself, about myself, for myself?" The lady just gave me a wry smile and started laughing as I walked away
thanks @Going through

From what I saw on the computer screen when I went---Code 5 means capturing an electronic signature, photo and full-hand fingerprint.
This is based off of the graphic shown on the lady's screen when I was looking over her shoulder--.a cartoonish symbol including a pen, a sillouhette of a person's head, and a fingerprint-looking coil-thingy (don't you love my descriptions of stuff??) Some of the other code graphics left out the signature, or photo part.
thanks again. Thanks indeed for detailed info
one more thing. I've been hearing that along with the stamped biometrics letter, they also giving the worksheet back ....the one we fill out at the office (where we write our name, weight, height etc). ??? My FP date coming up so making sure. thanks.
-
did u figure out what does code 5 mean for biometrics? i know what codes 1, 2 and 3 are but not 5. Seems like they skipped #4
thanks.

No worries...venting is always good. I agree, the immigration process is stressful enough without the long waiting times and the not-knowing and what ifs that surround long waiting times.
The slowdown is because of the tons of applications received nation-wide after the presidential election. I can't blame people scrambling to get their status secured with the N400, either, especially with this new administration now. Frankly, it's what finally pushed me to do it instead of renewing my 10 year GC again as I had originally planned.
thanks @going through, for explaining it. Makes sense now

Just read on another thread an applicant who submitted the N400 this year had only a 45 day wait between their biometrics and their interview appointment being scheduled---and they filed in NYC of all places! Crazy super fast! Gives me some hope...
Every case has it's own timeline.
For example 3 people i personally know who applied in the last 18 months. Two applied at the same field office............one got whole process done in little under 4 months. Other one had to wait 8.5 months. (they both applied 1 month apart just so u all know).
And for the third one who applied at a different office, it took about 5.5 months.
this pisses me off. I mean come on. We already been through biometrics before etc...........why cant they make at least n400 faster. Can't expect much when it comes to govt. Just put us on polygraph/lie detecting machine with applicant's conset and get it done fast. No more than 3 months. This is Total BS..................
sorry i was just venting out. My apologies in advance if i offended anyone
