My wife and I just got back from St. Lucia traveling with an expired Green Card and Extension Letter (I-797 Receipt). We had no issues with CBP when re-entering the country and all officers were fully aware of the situation (expired GC + extension letter). If you're planning on traveling, here are some tips from us:

    • When you arrive back into the country, ignore the kiosks and grab a US Customs form (U.S. spouse should use the kiosk) - We spent too much time trying to figure out how to get the kiosk to accept an expired GC.
    • Enter the line to speak to an immigration officer (spouse with U.S. Citizenship can go with GC holder)
    • You'll need to take a photo/give finger prints (standard stuff)

That's it. All we had to say to officers who approached us with questions was that we had an extension letter. They were quick to direct us to the right area. Everyone was super friendly, as well. This was Atlanta.

Hope this helps for anyone considering traveling.

This was very helpful and reassuring! Thank you for sharing :)

I was two days ahead of you.

Mailed our package 4/5 with USPS Express Delivery (Delivered 4/6 at CSC) - No NOA yet, BUT I JUST saw in my online checking account a debit for $680 bucks! (WOOHOO! ... Probably one of the few times where I'm excited to have LESS money in my account, LOL!)

Nerves are a bit more calm now :)

I also mailed mine 4/5 and it was received 4/7 according to USPS. I haven't received my NOA1 in the mail yet but I saw my check was being processed this morning. Hang on tight everyone- CSC is running about 2 weeks after mailing :)

I just filed mine today to VSC by Fedex, I will try to update the spreadsheet as much as I can. How big was your application? Ours was roughly 400 pages, mostly of financial records.

Ours was around 100 I think. I could have sent a lot more but I was trying to just send the most important evidence. I am pregnant right now so by the time we'd have an interview we'd have our baby here and that seems like good enough evidence to me :)

  4. Can u plz tell me what documents ur husband bring to his interview....it would be better for others to plan according to it...!!!

This is for the South African embassy so please carefully review your P4 letter and do not use this as an all inclusive list. I think some embassies are different and all cases are different.

    1. Folder with the proof of relationship items we sent with our I-130 and new items since we have lived apart.

    - Skype call logs for 4 months

    - All travel to see one another

    - Photos of dating, our wedding, with each others families

    - Signed contracts with our realtor in the US

(Husband said they kept a lot of this)

    2. Copies of EVERYTHING (I-30, NVC packages and all correspondence with NVC and USCIS along the way)

(Husband said they asked for none of this, was more of a backup)

    3. Original Civic Documents: His long form birth certificate, long form marriage certificate, and police clearance.

(They kept his original police clearance)

    4. Updated 2014 Tax Return Info: Filed Tax Return and W-2's

    (Didnt ask to see this)

    5. Passport photos and his passport.

    (Kept both after approved)

    6. Packet of documents they had given him at the medical.

Think that is it! Hope it helps!

  5. Husband had his interview today at the Johannesburg, South Africa consulate today and was approved! I am so relieved and excited, can't even describe the weight you feel lifted!!!

He said they asked several easy questions

    1. Where did you two meet?

    2. What does he do for work in South Africa?

    3. What are our plans in the states- where are we living? What will he do for work?

That's all I got from him so far. He said he felt so confident having all of our documents organized as he saw lots of others that had forgotten originals, or were being turned away because they didn't have required documentation. BE PREPARED!!! Good luck to all!

  6. Thank you! You will hear something soon Insha'Allah! :)

Thank you so much! I am flying out to see the hubby at the end of the week, we just couldn't wait to see each other any longer. I'll be coming home just before the interview, so I know the month will fly by. :) :) :)

That is exactly what we decided to do. And then he left whenever it was time for the medical. It really helped keep my worries at ease! I'm really just so pleased to see the good news for you after such a long wait!!!

  7. Yayy so happy for everyone! We got the interview today as well! We had already scheduled the medical just in case a few weeks ago and it's perfect timing for the interview since it'll take 10-14 days for the Dr. to send the medical files to the embassy. So medical on April 29th then interview May 12th and hopefully POE May 21st!!!!

    CC 04/01

    P4 email-04/16

    Interview date-05/12

Yay so glad we both got interviews!!! We just scheduled his medical and they are doing it over 2 days: one day for xrays and blood work, the second day for physical check. Then back to Jo'burg in a couple weeks for the interview. So excited!

    Congrats to you!

  8. Just a little rant because I'm sure you all get this too--

Conversation at least 5 times a day with co-workers, family, friends:

    "So what's the next step"

    "Waiting for interview"

    "When is the interview??"

"We aren't sure, waiting for it to be scheduled."

"Well how long til you find out?? How long does it normally take?? When do you THINK the interview will be??" etc etc etc etc etc questions I cannot answer.

I know they are just trying to be nice and inquire but I guess I'm just so sick of talking about it lol. It is almost like they think you are just uninformed about the process otherwise you'd have more information to share.

  9. Just got off phone with NVC... no interview date for us yet.... :(

    but....

I´ve got some further background info: the rep mentioned that they (I figure the phone reps) got an email that the interview departement are scheduling second round for May.

I asked him if that applies for Frankfurt / Germany or for all embassies. And his answer was: they don´t get a list which embassies so the May scheduling could be any embassy / consulate.

Hope it puts some more light on the mystery of scheduling interviews.

Thanks for the update! It gives a bit of hope I think. Appreciate you sharing it :)

Hoping you get yours scheduled soon!

  10. Congrats!!!!! Good to see some movement.

Can I ask (you and others who have done so) if you used the contact form reached from your representative's page on house.gov or did you used another method?

I just googled my state senators, went to their official website, and there is should always be a release of privacy form. This gives them permission to inquire on your behalf. Mine was under "constituent services". The instructions were on the form that I was to fax it to them, I called about 30 minutes later to confirm they received it. Nothing like NVC style.....2 rings and then spoke with a pleasant woman who typed out the e-mail to NVC while I was on the phone with her, making sure she got all the details on our case correct.

  11. It's good to see all this rally to get the representatives involved. Now you know they like "why all a sudden we getting calls. What is going on". I say watch and see what happens. Queeky wheels do get the grease.

Totally! It made all the difference for me getting my CC after 65 days. The senator's office manager forwarded me all the correspondence between NVC & herself and it was obvious they got MOVING....CC was 2 days later. I was so happy for their help. Hope it will move this along as well!!!

  12. I have just called- it's official - case complete with checklist scan date 03/23, so they move quite fast now.

Lady also said that they don't have delays at NVC with appointment scheduling, it only depends on each individual Embassy/Country. Once interview will be scheduled I should receive another email with instructions (on medical and so on).

Is there another forum for those who wait for an interview? Can you please direct me to it?

Good luck to everyone who still waits for those two letters "CC", it will be fast now.

Congrats, yes check out the interview forum below!
