  1. Seriously? Perhaps it is regional ?

It's actually quite a racist thing to say.

My husband is British and didn't get it either, when someone we knew made a comment last summer about an African-American friend of mine. I'd rather not have to explain it.

Let's just say... It's stereotypical. Sort of like putting Hillary and feminine hygiene product together.

Everyone's got a right to their own opinion, and the freedom to say it.

I've never heard that. Perhaps you've not heard of the Jim Jones & the Jonestown massacre?

    apparently not

Uh, yeah. I know all about Jim Jones. Most of his victims were black men, women and children. There's nothing funny that.

I hope none of you (or your SO's) who made light of this ever experience what it's like to be judged by your skin color or ethnicity. Then again, maybe you'll get to see what it's like.

To the moderators-You've allowed racism this on this site. If that's not a TOS violation, then I don't know what is.

I am off to cancel my account.

  3. Seriously, I find it very strange that Rasmussen is not listing the poll & neither is WP quoting a source

Ummm, Illumine, what exactly are you trying to say with that photo of Mr. Obama and the "Kool-Aid" guy ?

Please explain, cause many people may not know what it is that you're trying to say.

Being from Brooklyn, I get it loud & clear.

Now, be a sport and explain it to everyone else, K?

    Thanks,

    Mrs. Bruce

  4. If it's a TOS violation, then please go ahead and report it.

I feel very strongly about what I do, and how HARD I worked to get there. I don't need ANYONE who has NO IDEA about what I have done professionally, or personally-assuming that I haven't contributed to our society-monetarily, or otherwise. It's quite annoying.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I have mine. If it's too strong for you, then don't read it. It's very simple.

  5. That is the country I see. That is the country you see. But now it is up to us to help the entire nation embrace this vision. Because in the end, we are not just up against the ingrained and destructive habits of Washington, we are also struggling against our own doubts, our own fears, and our own cynicism. The change we seek has always required great struggle and sacrifice. And so this is a battle in our own hearts and minds about what kind of country we want and how hard we're willing to work for it.

    Im gonna raise your taxes!

The mother who can't get Medicaid to cover all the needs of her sick child - she needs us to pass a health care plan that cuts costs and makes health care available and affordable for every single American.

His plan doesnt cover every american!

good schools or decent wages because our leaders couldn't come together and get it done.

This guy is a piece of work, he has no control over wages.

    SFW?

I don't mind paying an extra few hundred a year in taxes to cover those who aren't as fortunate as I am right now. A few years ago, I was that single mother praying for health care insurance for my son. I made too much to qualify for medicaid and too little to afford it privately AND support a house that I own.

He is a wonderful piece of work !!! Thankfully, Americans are realizing how great he is and are standing behind him.

He's got my vote, and if my husband could vote-he'd have his too !

Mr. Bruce will just have to wait until Barack's 2nd term !

You've had the oppurtunity in the past eight years to volunteer to give a couple hundred dollars to the unfortunate. Why havent you? The guy makes struggling and suffering a badge of honor and you are buying it

By the way, you should be recieving your stimulus check in the mail in may, you can start by giving that to the unfortunate souls at your local hospital. Just walk in to the accounts dept. and tell them to apply it to peoples bills that are having a hard time paying. I will be looking forward to seeing a copy of the receipt on this thread. NEVER GONNA HAPPEN IS IT?:lol::lol:

    Yo...Mr. All Knowing,

How the hell would you know what I have contibuted in 8 years, let alone in my lifetime? I am a therapist, and I handle pro-bono cases WHENEVER they come. People CANNOT affford to pay for medical treatment, so I treat them for FREE, on MY OWN TIME. Not on office time... Why? Because they can not pay, they need treatment and I have compassion for human beings...That is WHY I chose my occupation. My kindness has been returned to me tenfold over the last year. I no longer struggle to make ends meet, but I will NEVER forget what it feels like.

Also, what inside scoop do you have on my financial history within the past 8 years? Have you been sleeping with my accountant or something?

My husband's company deals with bad debts from hospitals-what makes you think YOU haven't paid already ? Your insurance premiums have gone up annually, no? Maybe you need a cup of coffee to wake up???

Lastly, Wise A**- if I should ever get a "stimulus" check , I will donate it over to you for some lessons in tolerance and humanity. Maybe you wouldn't be such a douchebag with every pot-stirring post you make.

PS. Yes, we can ! Yes, we can ! Yes, we can !

  7. Hi...

We've never had any problems here, but I have encountered a few idiots in Scotland.

It was not the men who said anything-it was only women. Both of us are considered "white", but I am somewhat darker than he is. I encountered some seriously backward people who assumed I was from the ME, simply b/c I didn't look like them, and made some HORRIBLY ignorant comments and was called a few nice slurs-

    (behind my back, of course).

His family are ALL wonderful, and treat me as their own daughter. My family loves him as well.

I think I may have heard the "green card" comment from a friend or two-before they met him. It never really did offend me, as they were just trying to look after me. Their concern did not insult me in the least.

  8. Hi,

Sorry to hear of your tooth problem-in my opinion-it is indeed the worst pain you can have. (I'd rather have a kidney stone).

Until you get your insurance sorted, go to your local health food store and purchase some clove oil. It works beautifully for pain relief, and is a good quick fix for the time being.

    All The Best,

  9. Hi,

For a minute, forget about the $$$, forget about kissing another woman, and forget about spiritual beliefs-just for a moment.

This man put his hands on you. No one has a right to physically harm you.

That ALONE is reason to run. You mention that you have children. Are they witness to their mother being abused? Think about what they feel. Children see and hear more than you think.... Lead them by example. Have the strength of character to show them this is NOT acceptable. Teach your daughters to be strong, and have self esteem. Teach your sons to respect you and ALL women. More likely than not, if he is hitting you, it is only a matter of time before your children are next in line.

Statistically, sons in a household such as this will learn to treat woman with dishonor and disrespect. Daughters grow up with poor self esteem, and will most likely be attracted to an abuser. Forget about YOU, and put THEM FIRST. You brought them into the world-therefore it is incumbent upon YOU to provide them with leadership.

Have faith in your God to see you through this. Have faith in the fact that if you choose to leave him, you are showing your children great strength. Most importantly, have faith in yourself and KNOW YOU CAN get through this. Without him holding you and your children down.

    All The Best to You,

    Rose

  10. Many people cannot even find work when they arrive, and would therefore be happy to work any day they could-without whining about it.

Perhaps anyone who doesn't like their work schedule should quit their job, stay home, and give the job to someone who will be grateful that they are able to pay for food and the mortgage.

    Rose

Perhaps those people can't find a better job and prefer to work in a place they are not completely satisfied than staying home and have no income.

My point is, the world owes no one a living, or holidays...

If you want to be successful in this country, there is only one way of doing so... you work your a** off.

I am talking from experience. 3 years ago, I was single, and had to close down a failing business. I was able to support a house and a son on only 14k. I got a new job immediately and worked 7 days a week. That included every holiday I could work to make any OT or extra tips. I increased my client base from 40 too almost 500 by the end of 2007. I worked Saturdays, Sundays, and every holiday that I could to increase my client base and commission.

In the beginning, I did not know where the next meal was coming from, or where the next mortgage payment was coming from. I have no family to help out, and I would not dare to even ask friends to help at the time.

When you are going hungry that night so your child can eat, and rationing heat to keep a warm roof over your child's head, you become very grateful for every dollar you make. My work ethic will never change after that year. I still work as hard, even now with my husband's income. I will never depend on anyone nor will I ever allow myself to be in such a position again.

Whining about having to work on a holiday that is not even an American one is something that I, and many other Americans who crave financial success and independence simply cannot relate to.

I may sound like a hard-a**, but I am speaking the truth.

    Rose

    Your truth, anyway.

I've worked many a job where I would have killed for one holiday off so I could have a damn day off.

And that's your truth. MrsB already said she had a mortgage & a kid to feed, did you?

    Hi Devilette,

Considering the fact that she's only 21 years old-I'd take a wild guess and say Mommy & Daddy were feeding her and keeping the roof over her head.

So, yeah-I agree with you 100%...That would be her truth, as children see things much differently than adults do.

  13. Hi,

For us it took nearly a year.

Sometimes on a few occasions, I wondered if I did the right thing by marrying him.

It was VERY tough in the beginning once "real life" came into view. I lived alone with my 10 year old son for many years, and he too lived alone. Add some communication issues, a his being homesick a lot, and a culture gap to that as well.

After about 9 months, things settled down. It has been nearly 18 months, and we are very happy. We understand each other, and the differences in the way we do things. I no longer wonder about if I did the right thing. I know I did. Our partnership has grown from all of our experiences, and overcoming our different ways has made our partnership a lot richer.

It takes time, understanding and WHOLE LOT OF patience & love-but have no doubt that it will all work out if these elements are there.

    All The Best,

  14. Every NYer I know is anti-Giuliani. He oulled some serious BS while in office.

Yep. I am one of them. He pulled A LOT of BS !!! My ex sister in law worked for him during both of his terms. She is still pretty close with him. He officiated her wedding and was a guest... He appeared to me as natural as a polyester leisure suit...The man rubbed me the wrong way-and that was in 1994.

He did many, many things which were unethical for personal gain, and some of them were at the expense of taxpayers...and I am not even talking about the stable of women he was shagging at the time. I am talking about changing laws and disbanding programs that were in place for years !

I find it amazing that non-NY'ers will come to his rescue-saying, "he did such a fine job during 9/11"... Well, I got news for them. He did only WHAT HE WAS SUPPOSED to do as a mayor. The only thing he's done fine job of is riding on the coat tails of such a tragedy, and it seems he's attempting to ride those coat tails to the white house. Ever the opportunist...

  15. Yes...as a Buddhist, I believe very strongly that the soul comes back to Earth many, many times. In different shapes and forms. Each "life" on Earth teaches us a new lesson so that we may be free enough of any attachment or issues to live in together peacefully in harmony when we finally reach Nirvana. (and no-I am not talking about Kurt Cobain  ) To live in Nirvana, one must be fully enlightened...
