  1. Thank you Kathryn, they are now members of visa journey and I'm sure you will be hearing from them. Your help is greatly appreciated thank you very much.

  2. Friends of ours are out of status, he visited in August and they were married in January. What is thier best next move? What should they file as and what forms should they use.

I know you canhelp these folks with the right information, I have the greatest confidence in everyone here as you all pulled me through everything to get here.

Thanks in advance for all the help from you to them.

    Ron

  3. Living in Ottawa your fiance should go to the embassies of both countries to see what assistance they can offer, I went to the German embassy and they did all the required paper work for my documents. I think her doing this would save her time researching names, numbers and addresses on her own. As for the translation there is a place called Universal Communication located at 124 O'Connor Street suite 204, they can also have the documents noterized right in the building. They can have everything ready the next day.

  4. I was hoping Ron and Sharon would step into this conversation. Theirs is another case where tenacity and a long wait paid off in the end, although I know they despaired as well. Hang in there, Coralie - the good news is they kept your passport. The best news will be when they return it to you with the visa attached - and I hope that happens soon.

Yes, the good news is they kept the passport and other good news is you can ask to have it returned to you. When I ask for the return of my passport they sent it with a letter stating that they would need it to continue the process and I did return it within a week or so and not to long afterwards it was returned with the Visa. As mentioned earlier you could meet in Mexico then return the passport to the consulate.

  5. It took them 3 years 1 month and 20 days including it having to be returned to them because of thier error. September 19, 2006 to November 7, 2009 was a long wait but not as long as yours. You are much closer to the end than you are to the beginning. I hope you get good results from your conntacts.

Stay strong, not only better days are ahead but the best days of the rest of your life.

  6. Hi Ron/Sharon!

Congratulations on getting your SSN so quickly and with no problems!.. :star:

And now that you have your Social Security Card, remember not to carry it with you, as indicated about such on the card (funny, really), and have that number memorized, as you are going to need it for pretty much everything around here in the USA. Your SSN is pretty much your USA id....and guard it with your life against identity theft!

By the way, if you don't mind me asking, does your SSN card have a "golden USA" logo on the bottom? The reason I ask this, was that I wasn't sure if that was a distinction between non-citizen SSNs versus citizen SSNs. Or is there some other reason behind the "golden USA" thing....hmmm...

Likewise, I got my new SSN quickly too...Told them about my new Citizenship status on Nov 24, and got my new card on Dec 3, even though I didn't need a new card since I already have one, but they insisted on giving me a new one anyways. That was quick! (Though can't say the same thing about my first SSN though..took them 8 weeks to verify immigration status...As well, they lost my son's SSN...had to order a new one....took them 8 weeks...Nevertheless still better than the USCIS overall..lol..)

Lol..And now I have 2 valid SSNs (one I got as a PR, the other as a Citizen)! And 2 valid driver's licenses (one non-enhanced, one enhanced)!

Oh yeah, I agree, all other US government agencies are overall better to deal with than the USCIS. Sad, really, as they are all government related too. The USCIS can sure learn a thing or two from them, indeed! Lol..If you like US government agencies, the one I recommend to deal with is the DMV. And depending on your state, you can have your Canadian license transfered over too, with no testing required (which happend to me, no problems...10 mins in and out with a new license). They have the fastest, reliable, and friendliest service (well, at least from my experience)....For example, it took $545 and 10 months to get my 10yr green card with an RFID barcode thingy on it from the USCIS, versus, it took $80 and 12 days to get my 8yr enhanced driver's license with an RFID barcode thingy from the DMV...Same type of travel document good for land travel....Why BIG the difference...Who knows......

Good luck too, in getting your marriage registry, and with dealing with other agencies and the USCIS too.

Good luck with the rest of your journey as well. May you enjoy married life with your loved one soon!

    Ant

Thanks to all of you for thte coment and wishes

Ant, I have carried my Canadian Card since I got it and that is a long time. I don't believe they don't plastify the cards for durability, but I guess I will have to hide it as everyone else does or should.

I do have the golden USA at the bottom of my card, did your first card not have the USA in gold? As for the drivers licence I will be getting a learners permit, they call it something else here, but that is because I haven't driven since 1976 it will all come back very quickly though.

I am hoping that everything that is left to do goes quickly and easily and it will if they all work as thesocial security Department did and not as USCIS, I as everyone else have had enough of them and their tactics.

We are getting the marriage licence tomorrow and will be getting married on Thursday evening hopefully in a park downtown where it is all lit up in seasonal colors, and I hope to have pictures to post latter.

  7. Applied for the social security card on November 23rd and recieved it on December 8th with no problems at all. Today got our marriage licence application, getting the licence on Monday, then getting my Kansas Indentification card and drivers licence also on Monday since all that was needed for them was the marriage licence.

The public servants here actually serve the public and made my move here as easy as possible, they are definately not USCIS people which is sad because like many of you I still have the AOS to do. Because we are sort of in the marriage registry at the courthouse here as of today which counts as part of our 3 day waiting period we can get married any time as of Monday, which we will be doing next week. The people here fantastic, helpful, friendly and very welcoming, this beat Ottawa by a long shot.

  8. Is getting married before December 31st better or does make that much of a difference. We haven't set a date yet since Sharon has some time yet before she can take time off, I was thinking of a December wedding and Sharon is thinking of a January wedding. I thought that having it done in December we would gain a tax break or reduction for the 2009 tax year.

I'm just looking for different view on this subject.

    Thanks

It usually makes a HUGE difference for most filers. If you get married on or before the 31st, you can file as married for the 2009 tax year -- which means you get 2 standard deductions and 2 exemptions and can generally exempt a significant amount, if not all, of the Foreign income for the year. The result will usually be a very large tax refund.... perhaps even enough to pay for a nice honeymoon.

Thank you very much Rob_Lesya the information will be the subject be part of todays conversations.

  9. no its off I-70 in Kansas near the Colorado border. Its not even in a town. Its like no mans land off the highway. There might be some like cows that live out there, or people who feed the cows?

Anybody know a Cody Koss?:lol:

Well actually Ron of Ron/Sharon is or was 52, god knows how We ended where we were, we are in Garden City.

Sorry for the error. As for the map I have done what I couldand don<T know how to add more. Thanks

  11. Beginning my 3rd week here and loving it very much, it is well worth the frustrations. We always knew it would happen we just wondered when, well the wondering is over.

The POE was very easy and quite simple to do in Ottawa. Went to the airport at about 10:00 and had breakfast with my daughter and since the plane was leaving at shortly after noon I went to the customs area at 11:00 not knowing how long it would take and spoke with the officer there and said it took a while to get there and look at the computer and said it seems you had some issues and at that I broke into a smile and said yes it seems. Then I was taken into secondary by officer Garcia who took the two envelopesand did his thing and a few questions only one I remember because the manner he asked the question were more like having a conversation with a friend than being questioned by an official. The question I remember was about where I was going to live in Kansas because in 2006 our address was in Dodge City and now in 2009 Sharon was living in Garden City and that was no problem, the hour in secondary pasted as if only 10 minutes had gone by. I knew everything was alright when he staples the I-94 in my passport. He explained the need to be married within 90 days and other paperwork that needed to be done also and asked if I had any questionsand all I could ask is am I good to go and he said yes and pointed to the way out.

By the time I got to the gate to check the boarding time is was time to board and I was was very ready and made my way to the plane. The flight was never ending, Ottawa to Chicago, wait and then Chicago to Kansas City, wait and then Kansas City to Salina, wait and then Salina to Garden City and home. I got to Garden City and as I walked into the terminal Sharon was walking in also the timing couldn't be better, Sharon's daughter and 4 grandchildren arrived 5 minutes later, had the plane been on time they would have had a 20 minute wait for me but the timing was perfect I had a few minutes of hugs and kisses with Sharon before we all went to have something to eat.

I have one question what is wrong with the food down here? I eat a big meal and am hungry 20 minutes later as if I hadn't eaten for days and gassed up since I got here as if I had eaten a large pot of baked beans on a daily basis.

I would like to thank everyone that has put up with me and my problems over the past years, we wouldn't have made it this far with you and your encouragement, each one of you is the best there is and better people and friends can't be found.

We love you all more than you will ever know.

  12. Thanks everyone, I will try and answer your posts individually later there are things said that need a personal touch but time is running short for me here. I'll be back in a week or so and I'll bring Sharon with me since as far as I know she has never visited VJ.

Love you all and still praying for your speedy completition of the journey

    Ron and Sharon

  13. Last day at work tomorrow, they're throwing a surprise lunch for me which should be fun. I booked the flight and am out of here on Saturday at 12:06 and home at 7:50. I am ready to enjoy the next 100 years with Sharon we have been apart for to long. I hope DHS (CBP) is quicker than DOS (USCIS) was.

  14. Madam was having trouble with one of her students in 1st Grade class.

Madam asked,'Boy. What is your problem?'

Boy answered, 'I'm too smart for the first-grade. My sister is in the third-grade and I'm smarter than she is! I think I should be in the 4th Grade!'

Madam had enough. She took the Boy to the principal's office. While the Boy waited in the outer office, madam explained to the principal what the situation was. The principal told Madam he would give the boy a test and if he failed to answer any of his questions he was to go back to the first-grade and behave. She agreed.

The Boy was brought in and the conditions were explained to him and he agreed to take the test.

    Principal: 'What is 3 x 3?'

    Boy: '9'.

    Principal: 'What is 6 x 6?'

    Boy: '36'.

And so it went with every question the principal thought a 4th grade should know. The principal looks at Madam and tells her, 'I think the Boy can go to the 4th grade.'

Madam says to the principal, 'I have some of my own questions for the boy.

Can I ask him ?' The principal and Boy both agreed.

Madam ask boy: 'What does a cow have four of that I have only two of'?

    Boy, after a moment: 'Legs.'

Madam: 'What is in your pants that you have but I do not have?'

    Boy: 'Pockets.'

Madam: What starts with a C and ends with a T, is hairy, oval, delicious and contains thin whitish liquid?

    Boy.: Coconut

Madam: What goes in hard and pink then comes out soft And sticky?

The principal's eyes open really wide and before he could stop the answer, the Boy was taking charge..

    Boy...: Bubblegum

Madam: What does a man do standing up, a woman does sitting down and a dog does on three legs?

The principal's eyes open really wide and before he could stop the answer...

    Boy..: Shake hands

Madam: You stick your poles inside me. You tie me down to get me up. I get wet before you do.

    Boy.: Tent

Madam: A finger goes in me. You fiddle with me when you're bored. The best man always has me first..

The Principal was looking restless, a bit tense and took one large Patiala Vodka peg..

    Boy.: Wedding Ring

Madam: I come in many sizes. When I'm not well, I drip. When you blow me, I feel good.

    Boy: Nose

Madam: I have a stiff shaft. My tip penetrates. I come with a quiver.

    Boy.: Arrow

Madam: What word starts with a 'F' and ends in 'K' that means lot of heat and excitement?

    Boy: Fire truck

Madam: What word starts with a 'F' and ends in 'K' & if u don't get it, u have to use ur hand.

    Boy.: Fork

Madam: What is it that all men have one of it's longer on some men than on others, the pope doesn't use his and a man gives it to his wife after they're married?

    Boy.: SURNAME..

Madam: What part of the man has no bone but has muscles, has lots of veins, like pumping, & is responsible for making love ?

    Boy.: HEART.

The principal breathed a sigh of relief and said to the teacher,

'Send this Boy to UNIVERSITY, I got the last ten questions wrong myself!'.

And how many did you get right????

  15. You're paying them, since when does the employee dictate the dress code.

 ..Oh so true, indeed! We pay them (a lot..those application fees aren't cheap!)...so technically they are our "employees"....

On that note, any ideas as to how the USCIS officials should dress?.....

Personally, I don't like the "dress like a cop" thing....seems too intimidating at times...lol....though they have "immigration authority"...so I guess cop outfit it is...

Makes for a good halloween costume?...USCIS officer...lol....I wonder how many tricks or treats that would get a person?

    Ant

The Consular folks who deal with petitioners and beneficiaries should be dressed to impress and have the attitude of a knowledgeable professional. They are after all the first bureaucrats of our new country that we meet.

If they won't do that, the women dressed as playboy bunnies for the guys and the men dressed as Chippendale dancers for the girls.

The CBP folks are in a world of thier own, I think they have contest to see who can make the most people cry. The contest runs from Saturday to thursday and the winner get the next weekend plus Friday off.

I personnally haven't met a bad CBP person yet.

  16. The waiting is not good for the mind or body and having a child wanting your presence and asks for you is down right depressing and makes everything worse. I know that you shed many tears, I have many times but held on and everything is back on track and hopefully you will be very soon writting (got it today, moving next week see you in AOS) You are always in our prayers.

    Ron and Sharon

A strong heart and determination will get you what you want

  17. Letter received at the consulate on the 20th and on the 26th response to my query "it was sent on Fridays" 23rd. I definitely would like to think that the letter made the difference, and I hope it did because that would mean they are reading the letters and acting on them. I had one advantage over everyone else her letter writing to Montreal, in early Sept. I had the visa in hand and when I sent the letter I was able to add the bio page of my passport and a printout of my visa.

I did want to write I was getting fked and hadn't yet been kissed but left that part out, I think that was a good idea.

    Ron

  18. Thank you all very much, we knew it would but never when. We are well prepared for what marriage can throw at us now. It will be nice to talkk to each other without the use of modern technology. Even though I have 4 weeks before finishing at work My boss may swing it so I'm gone and out of the country by the weekend.

I do appreciate everything, the help, and the support from everyone and I hope to be able to come back with the better attitude I had in the long past.

    Ron
