Thank you, yes i agree, they need to find a way to approve cases reviewed by the Jr officers.  One thing slightly bothers me is, not everyone is going through this stress, it is matter of your luck ( it is not fair if you ask me), Irrespective of your case is being handled by Jr or not, timeline for the approval should be same across the board.  Apparently i didn't choose that particular officer, it is matter of 1 minute, had i waited bit longer to check in, my application would have picked by someone else. And things would have been different right now. Anyway, it is what it is 🙂

It's crappy that this junior officer seems to be affecting so many of us.  From the time of my husbands N-400 interview to the approval of his I-751 was 10 weeks.  Hopefully yours isn't as long.

InsanelyOne Not sure if you have had any updates as you where before my Father In Law by about 10 days?

Yesterday his status changed to inline for Oath Ceremony but no date.

Mother in law has her oath ceremony scheduled for February but would really like to do it together?

My husband's I-751 was approved (no interview required) on Jan 23rd.  Now waiting to hear about oath ceremony date.

Where did you file your paper and had the interview?

i had my N-400 interview over 3 months ago and still no word at all.

i read by law, they have to make decision within 120 days after the interview. Mine is almost there.

my lawyer is considering filing a congressional inquiry for me by then as well.

We're in Washington, DC.  Even though they have the file at the local DC office, they did NOT do a combo interview.  His I-751 application was sitting right on the desk when she did his N-400 interview.   I went with him for the interview but they said they didn't need me there.

My husband’s naturalization interview was yesterday at the Washington Field office. I went along with him for moral support, The appointment time was at 8:20am but my husband got called in a bit earlier, He passed his civics, reading and writting tests. The IO was very polite and friendly and went through the application. My husband had to correct a few things and the IO happily made the changes. At the end, the officer stated she was a new employee and was unable to make a decision, she had to submit it to

her supervisor for final review. All they requested was our bank statements, we took a few other documents to show we are in a bonafide relationship but they did not need it.

At the end she handed a paper checking off the box for passed civics test and also the decision cannot be made box.

Over all it was a positive yet nerve wrecking experience. When we came home, I checked the status and it had said “you attended your interview. Please wait while we continue to review your application”. We applied based on the 3 year rule. No long trips outside the US , no issues with the the law. Should there be a concern at this time? All the IO states was that she was new and she had to get final review from her supervisor.

    Any comments? Thoughts?

You aren't the first to have an interview with the new employee that is unable to make a decision.  My husband had his interview over 2 months ago and was told the exact same thing.  His I-751 is still pending and his N-400 is seemingly approved.

I expect this to drag on for many months to come...

Online status hasn't changed since his interview.  And for whatever reason, we can't get any online status of his I-751.  When we put the case number in is says there is no information available.

My husband made an appointment and got the I-551 stamp in his passport since we need to travel out of the country and it is now past his 18 month GC extension.

    The fun never ends!

Any updates or changes? My Father-In-Law just had exactly the same happen today was told he passed the test & looked perfect for approval but as she was in training she had to defer it & it would be 2-3 months before he heard anything.

My Mother-In-Law had interview with another officer who was obviously not in training as he approved her & said oath ceremony should be in about a month.

Nope... nothing.  Checked the status online and nothing has changed.

We are traveling out of the country in February and his GC extension expires at the beginning of January.  If we don't hear anything by the beginning of December we are going to see about getting an I-551 stamp in his passport.

  6. My husband had his interview today. Although he passed the naturalization test (and the 40 minute interview went seemingly well) he was told they couldn’t make a decision at this time.

The officer told my husband that she was new and still in training. She said because his ROC was not yet adjudicated she couldn’t make a decision.  She pointed at the I-751 packet sitting on the desk and said she didn’t have time to look at it and was going to turn it over to her supervisor.

I went to the field office with him but they said they didn’t need to speak with me.

She said we should hopefully hear something by January.

Needless to say, I’m not happy 😡

Do you have your interview appointment yet? You are ahead of me?

I have had nothing it just says 8 days & Dec completion?

We received the notice for the interview on October 9th. Interview date is November 4th.

Based on what I’ve read in other threads, we show up even though my husbands I-751 is still pending and they will take care of both.

@InsanelyOne @SONG41 you guys should be getting interview notice in few days. Please update us if when you get it.

Could very well be but I'm a little unsure how things are going to play out.  It looks like the N-400 is going to get processed before the I-751.

Anyone know what happens when you show up for your interview and your removal of conditions is still pending?

  9. My husband presently has both the I-751 and N-400 petitions being processed.  The I-751 was filed in Apr 2018 and the N-400 in Apr 2019.  Biometric appointments were scheduled quickly on both and have been completed.  Otherwise, no other information or status updates.

When we log in to the USCIS website and look at the list of cases associated with the account, the N-400 doesn't show up at all.  If we go to the page to check status by receipt number, the N-400 does show up and indicates that the case is still being processed.  The receipt number for the I-751 comes up as 'no information available'.

Husband called to ask what's up.  They ask for A-number and he's told he's not in the system at all!!! That was quite a scare.  Agent gets more information from him and is finally able to find his file.

No specific info on the I-751 except that it's still being processed.  His extension runs out in January so they said if he doesn't hear anything by December to give them a call and they will expedite it.

N-400 has been referred to the local DC office to schedule interview.  Looks like the N-400 will get processed before the I-751.

Either way, the website is useless.

Did you show him both the original 12-month extension letter and the 18-month extension to the extension? The only thing that sounds plausible is that for some reason he wanted to see your 12-month letter since that’s referenced in the 18-month letter. No, it isn’t required, and all you need is the expired GC and the 18-month letter, but I always carry the 12-month letter as well just in case. I flew back in this past week on the 18-month letter which expires end of February and the officer counted 18 months off on his fingers three times and lost his place each time...before realizing he could just count 6 months from the previous August since that’s when the first extension expired. 🤦‍♀️

We only showed the 18-month letter.  This time I'm going to make sure we take all 3 of the I-797s just to be safe.

    Thanks!

  11. My husband and I travelled last September (his GC had been expired for 2 months at that point) and upon returning he presented the GC and the I-797 showing the extension for 18 months.  The immigration agent was very nice and didn't give us any trouble however he stated that we should have travelled with another document in addition to the I-797.  Unfortunately, I can't remember which document he was referring to (he said we should have received something in addition to the I-797 after we filed the I-751).

We are traveling again next week and I've scoured my files and all we have is the I-797 extension letter.  Actually we have the 12-month extension, the 18-month extension, and also an I-797 for when we moved and updated our address.

Anyone have any idea what document he could be referring to?

  12. One thing is a little weird.  Immediately after receiving the letter that the payment was messed up we received the NOA (I-797) stating that the payment was received (it explicitly says "Amount received: $680.00 U.S.)

It has all the verbiage about how his conditional resident status is extended for one year and that he can travel and work.

A couple of weeks after resending all the forms and the corrected check, we received ANOTHER identical NOA (I-797).  It is literally an exact copy of the first EXCEPT the receipt number is different.  The check has cleared the bank as well.

Not sure what to think about this.  Is having 2 unique receipt numbers going to mess things up?

It sounds like they're talking about your payment method expiring and that it states on the payment that it's void after a certain period. Did you perhaps date the check incorrectly or purchase a money order too far in advance?

    OMG!!!!  I"m a fool!  I dated the check 2019!

    UGH!

At least we have plenty of time to resubmit. Thanks for pointing that out.  I didn't make the obvious connection that remittance = payment.

  14. My husbands GC expires on 2018/07/07.  We submitted the I-751 on 2018-04-16 (82 days before expiration).

    Form I-751 Instructions states:

    1. Filing jointly. If you are filing this petition jointly with your spouse, you must file it during the 90-day period immediately before your conditional residence expires.

    Rejection letter states:

The remittance you submitted states it is void if over a specified amount and/or void if after a specified period of time.

The remittance you submitted is beyond the maximum period of time allowed.

The I-751 form itself is the current version (it expires 2019-12-31).

I'm VERY confused. Am I missing something?

Of course we'll be calling tomorrow (Monday) to find out whats going on but this is scaring me a bit.

  15. All along I’ve been thinking the I-751 was just a formality but after reading the “megathread” showing a literal mountain of evidence I’m suddenly feeling underprepared.

Just to give a little history, the process so far has been very easy for us.  We are a same-sex couple that lived together outside the U.S for 12 years before we had the option to get married and return to the U.S.  Proving a bonifide relationship was easy.  In our photos together you could witness my hair turning from brown to gray!  During our interview for the K-1 visa they didn’t ask a single question and didn’t ask for a single supporting document.  The adjustment of status was super easy and required no interview.  I’ve been thinking all along that the removal of conditions would be the same.

I guess it’s better to be safe than sorry but I’m still inclined to go easy on the supporting documents for the ROC.  An I being to casual about this?
