Submitted N400 yesterday. Current estimate - November 2019. Curious.
-
Wait, can it *not* be a combo? And if it is not, and everything goes well - what then? I mean, once N400 is approved, I751 is essentially moot, is it not? (All questions, no answers, sorry - curious myself)
-
If any of the original posters (who did not include step children on the application) are around - would appreciate your help. We have not included step children either, and now I wonder how this was handled/resolved. Did you discuss this at interview time?
-
And of course that was meant to be "childreN" - but too late, edit button is not here
-
And, here we go.

I just submitted a US citizen marriage based N400 online. After it went through (and payment was accepted) - realized that I probably should have included US citizen spouse children from the previous marriage on the application (the applicant/LPR is not a legal guardian of the children, but it sounds like the application definition of a "step child" would apply to pretty much all children of a spouse?)
So, the questions are:
- Is this something that requires proactive attempt to fix on our part? Or do we wait for the USCIS to get to the case and ask?
- If not - will USCIS care (and if so - will they send an RFE? Wait and ask at interview?)
Advice appreciated!

I would guess those letters are sent automatically, and the system that sends them out is not well synchronized with the actual case status. IMHO, would not worry. Keep it or discard it, at your option.

Two weeks after getting a stamp in the passport (and over 2 months after courtesy notice arrived) we've got an official notice today. It's a second official notice, sent due to "errors in the first notice" (which we never received). Not that it matters now - passport stamp is good for a year.

I believe you can no longer get IRS transcripts online. They will mail a hard copy to the last address of record. Takes about 7-10 days to receive it.

Did they keep your green card?
They gave it back but cut one corner off, so it is no longer a valid document, technically. That said, probably good to keep it around just in case (but the stamp should be sufficient for all travel needs).

We decided not to wait, made an appointment at the local USCIS office and got a stamp. I found it curious that when we came in, there was quite literally no one but us in the entire office. No one waiting for service, and only one person behind the counter. We were in and out with a stamp in less than 15 minutes. Now good until October 2019.

Interesting. Perhaps I did it just in time, then. That would be strange, but ultimately if there is a name and a social security number on it - this should be sufficient as a proof of common taxes. That said, address will have to be printed on the envelope in which the transcript arrives (or, more practically, because IRS uses envelopes with a little plastic window, it will have to be printed on the cover page of the transcript which is, naturally, a part of the transcript). So, simply send that together.

I just got a tax transcript (about 2 weeks ago, for 2017) and it includes my full name and address. Sounds like AIR (agent invented rules).

But they didn’t give you a response about the “18-month courtesy letter”
Their response is that we need to go get a stamp. So, clearly, they are not about to resend the letter (whether it's been lost or never sent at all).

So, I followed others here and made a "non-delivery of notice" request about 2 weeks ago. Today received an email response from the USCIS:
QuoteIf your 12-month extension has expired, you must schedule an appointment with your local field or district office as indicated below to receive a stamp in your passport to extend your authorization of work and travel for another year. If you would like to schedule an appointment with your local office, please visit our web site at www.uscis.gov. You must use the InfoPass Appointment Scheduler prior to visiting your local office. You will need to bring this letter, a copy or the original receipt notice and your valid passport with you.
Well then, that settles it. Helpful as always.

Isn't

Isn't most of what they do?

Bold part, though you could make an argument about what a receipt is. The white form itself states it is not a actual receipt.
(2) (U) Is seeking admission or readmission after a temporary absence of less than one year, possesses an expired Form I-551, accompanied by a computer-generated filing receipt issued by DHS USCIS within the previous 6 months indicating that the applicant has applied for removal of conditional status (Form I-751, Petition to Remove the Conditions on Residence, or Form I-829, Petition by Entrepreneur to Remove Conditions) or has been granted a waiver. An alien in possession of an expired permanent resident card with a two-year expiration date must continue to have evidence that the Form I-551 expiration date has been extended.
It also says that receipt must be issued within the previous 6 months But yes, I suspect that the plain white form won't work.

With the original 18 month letter we would not have an issue either. Applying with a Swiss consulate Monday. We'll see.
-
Made an appointment at the USCIS office. Hope they will be willing to stamp the passport 2 months early.
-
Not being able to travel means non-trival non-refundable ticket losses.
With the valid 12 month letter (and more than 3 months remaining) there would be noting to worry about.

Here is a new question for those who have had this experience (anyone?).
We have:
- Conditional GC with expiration in December 2017
- Original extension letter (12 months) extending it to December 2018
- Courtesy copy of the 18 month extension letter, but not the actual letter
For travel to Europe planned in early December, to apply for Schengen visa, the requirement (at least on German consulate's page) is to have a proof or residency (such as a green card etc) with expiration at least 3 months after the intended period of travel. So, original 12 month extension letter falls short - it's just after the return. As there still are about 3 months until GC + extension letter expiration, it's not yet time to go ask USCIS for a stamp.
- Anyone attempted to apply for a Schengen (or any other) visa with a courtesy copy extension letter yet?
- In similar circumstances, anyone successfully got an "early" I551 stamp from USCIS?
Any help would be appreciated!
-
When I go to that page, the "select form" drop down is empty. Tried 3 different web browsers on Mac and Windows. What gives?
-
What's the timeframe for the real extension letter after the "courtesy copy"? We've got the courtesy copy in mid August, but the actual letter is still not here.
Is it possible to travel with the courtesy copy? If not - does it mean we have to go get a stamp at the USCIS office?

BTW, I am watching 100 cases around ours. Until yesterday about 5 were decided/issued permanent GC. As of Oct. 26th - 13 cases changed status to "case was transferred/new office has jurisdiction". If I were to guess, those are the cases that are selected for the in-person processing/interviews. We'll see if the rest will start being adjudicated in the near future.
