Hello. I have a K1 visa and we will be driving from Toronto to Seattle in about 2 weeks. I’d like to ask about your experience if you’ve ever driven cross-Canada or cross-US. We planned an 8 to 10-hour drive daily.
Also, what are your experiences with Detroit, Idaho, and/or Seattle border land crossings (like which ones are faster and such)?
We crossed Detroit coming from toronto to ohio on a k1 for my wife. Pulled up to the officer and handed her packet to them. They sent us to secondary. Took about 45 minutes for our turn. Officers where very nice. Only thing I will say for the us citizen in secondary is listen when the officer calls you up. Make sure they ask for both of you. He called her up and went to go up to. Very bluntly said I only asked for her. Still nice officer. But for the hour in Detroit be ready for a show. Saw a number of people arguing with the officers thinking it was going to help at all

Hey guys, I posted yesterday about trying to figure out how best to bring my stuff across the border on a K-1 Visa, and some new questions have come up as a result. My fiance's father has proposed the idea of driving his truck and trailer, with my fiance in tow, up to where I live in BC, and then bringing me and my things back across the border. However, I'm not sure if this would actually be permitted or not. Would the act of them moving my stuff be considered "working"? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
The previous post is here for reference:My wife lived in toronto. I drove up from ohio and we loaded up the car with her stuff and didnt have an issue crossing. Her father brought brought some bigger stuff down later with a letter stating her father was bringing her stuff. We also gave him a copy of her visa and crossed without a problem.

Has anyone here not received their 18-month extension letter yet?? I've been checking the June '17 filers thread and a lot of the applicants over there have already gotten theirs. I still haven't gotten mine in the mail yet =/ I called up USCIS earlier today to make sure they have my correct mailing address- they do. I was advised to just go get an extension in my passport (which is something I should've done a long time ago, I know!).
We have not received the extension letter either. But did get a one year stamp a couple weeks ago

Quick question,
My wife have a resident green card and valid Peruvian passport. We want to visit Canada for long weekend by driving from Michigan. Won't there be any issue driving to and driving back across the border by only have my wife show her green card and her valid Peruvian passport as backup?
I think canada has a visa requirement now also. Done online I think

Quick question for clarification since we are approaching the time to file for ROC. At what point in the process would you need to get a 551 stamp? thanks for the help.
Once you file roc u should get an extension letter. That will make your two year green card valid again for the length of time the letter is for. Once the extension letter is set to expire then you will need to get a 551 stamp while waiting for the 10 year green card to be approved.

I would. Then I'd print out something from an official website (USCIS, CBP) saying how the stamp is the equivalent of a GC.
Thanks for the info. Wasn't sure if I should use her canadian passport document number since the stamp is in there. Come CSC speed up

Hoping maybe someone has gone thru this. We are currently in ROC for my wife's greencard in the CSC processing center :(. Our one year extension letter just expired. We received an i-551 stamp from our local USCIS office that is valid until next year so we are good on that. We booked a cruise and one of the questions is what is the document number. When we sailed with the valid green card I always put in the card number. On the stamp I see her A number and WAC case number that 751 is pending. Do I still use the expired greencard's card number?

Any late May filers here? Mine was received on May 30th, and I haven't heard from them since my biometrics last year. Thanks!
May 31st is when mine is logged. I am at CSC. No update so far. Haven't filled n400 yet

When my wife had to go get a new canada passport in her married name she just took in the marriage cert and all the stuff you would need for a new canadian passport and said all the systems would show her new name now.

I am about to travel to Canada next week by plane. My 2 year green card is expired but I do have the letter from USCIS stating that they have received my documents and that I got extension. I have seen some information online about getting a sticker on your expired green card... does anyone have information about that? I also have my maiden name on expired green card and my Canadian passport, but married name on letter, I know about bringing my marriage certificate, is there anything else I should know or be prepared for?
Thank you for your help... all of this is so stressful!!! I can't wait for this process to be over with!
We go back and forth from toronto to ohio a number of times on an extension letter. When you go into canada they only look at your passport. When coming back they only look at your green card and extension letter. That is for driving :). Marraige license is good to have to. Never had them look at the marriage license in the two years but safe to have.

Not sure what to do... My wife applied for her I-751 May of 2017, and we got an extension through August of this year. So will she be illegal if we just wait and do nothing? I tried to make an InfoPass appointment, there are none for the next 2 weeks. So basically we can't make an appointment, and we are waiting and hoping for an I-751 approval, which it sounds like it could still take a lot of time. What should we do?
Is there any other offices near you that might have openings. Not sure if you could go to another office and have them stamp it.

Went to the Cincinnati office today and got a one year 551 stamp. No issues and easy :).

We where a k1 but it took about 3 months of constant checking to schedule an interview in montreal

Have a family cruise in dec. We are currently on a one year extension letter and will get our i-551 stamp in August. My question is I remember when we had our AP card we always had to go to secondary when crossing the canadian border or returning from a cruise. Should we expect the same with a stamp going in to secondary? Just trying to book a flight to come home from Miami and want to make sure I give us enough time to clear customs and get to the airport. Thanks!

My wife is from canada. We got married quietly when she arrived since we didn't need to wait. Then planned a major wedding for all the family 6 months down the road when we knew she would have her AP approval and we could have the formal wedding and give everyone time to make trip arrangements.

We did. Had a family wedding coming up when we got the letter for our interview. So at the end of the n400 interview the officer asked if we had any question. I bought up that I had a trip coming up in a couple weeks. The officer said they would bump us to the next one after that to make sure we wouldnt have an issue
