Hi, sorry I've been out of town and didn't get chance to respond right away - no I wasn't waiting too long, I just forgot to come back and update my timeline. I actually had the oath ceremony on Feb 7th, so around a month after the interview. The case status on both cases took almost a week to update and then the ceremony date notice letter came pretty soon after that. I got an approval notification for the ROC, but they never did produce a card. They did double check that at the oath ceremony check-in - the officer checking people in noted that my GC was an expired 2-year and said 'I take it you had the I-751 approved just recently' or something like that, and I just said yes.

We had our oath ceremony today!

So, would it be wise to apply for citizenship before we get our new green card? I just sent the csc my application on Jan. 31st 2018...

We did and we already did biometrics for citizenship and are still waiting for the ROC interview. What a joke.

  3. I'll give you a pass because you couldn't know my situation. My case is expedited because I have a scheduled heart surgery that is literally life or death for. After only being married a short time and joining the cue for the long wait to CR-1 I was diagnosed with a rare condition. We were prepared to wait the 12-15 months like everyone else but life threw us a curve ball and now our time is limited. After having both my senator and congressman expedite the case I am at a dead stand still as my government fails and lets me down yet again. I have very limited time and patience when my life is on the line and my wife is trapped behind an imaginary line and so many layers of bureaucracy. Every time I call they say "try again in a couple of days". The feeling is so hopeless, depressing and at times so frustrating and aggravating. If I was perfectly healthy I would patiently wait my turn, but I can't and I don't want to go under the knife without my wife at my side.

  4. I am so angry and frustrated. Waiting 11 days now to pay AOS and IV fee but cannot because there is some trouble with the system. However people that obtained their case numbers after us have paid and are ready to schedule their interview. #######?! I am boiling with rage at this point. :ranting: I got my case number the day after the trouble started. Case numbers created this week are working. It makes no sense how long it is taking to fix this, even worse there is no work around or other options for us. Sure we could mail the payment, but we cannot complete the DS-260. Ugh! x 1000!

  5. My wife and I filed jointly and applied for her ITIN (individual tax identification number). I have already received the ITIN in the mail and should get the tax return shortly.

I created an excel spreadsheet with name of her employer and address, her name address and whatever information we could put such as salary and taxes paid. Two columns. On the left of the page in English and on the right in Mandarin. She brought it to her boss who put his stamp on it and we were golden. That is all that is needed.

  6. Update: the Chengdu consulate replied with this. seems like it is still possible!

"We can certify true copy of Chinese passport if it is used for IRS purpose, $50.00 for each signature/seal. Your wife need to bring her current passport and W7 when she comes for this service. Please make an appointment first and find more details at this page: http://chengdu.usembassy-china.org.cn/notarials.html"

I understand there is an option but my wife is my goddess, so no need to trouble her to travel for this, I just let her mail it to me. We can easily replace the passport.

  7. 10-4 on the white books, everything else they think is fake. You can buy anything in China. I myself sent original stuffs as well as professionally translated and notarized in the US stuffs for my wife's prior divorce and was denied for a K-1, denied for not sending the white book, they only expect to see the white books.

If it is a Chinese document do yourself a favor and get a white book for it. Part of the white book guarantees that the original Chinese document is indeed legitimate as well as providing an English translation.

By screener he should mean the people looking over your papers, USCIS or Consulate, looking for fakes.

  8. It's probably too late to call them, I forgot about the time difference.

Useless and irrelevant info: I know in Beijing they have cubby holes and a guard just past the metal detector to hold your stuff. The last time I was there I walked in without a phone, they thought it was strange and took my coat for no apparent reason. They had to take something from everyone I guess, but everyone else got to keep their coats, I dunno.

I have not been to the Guangzhou consulate yet, so my knowledge is worthless.

Anyway.... congrats on the interview and best of luck to you guys!

  9. Also be sure to send the white books for all her official Chinese things. The USCIS assumes anything else is a forged document, for example a birth certificate bought on Taobao.com for $1. It is so easy to just buy any fake document and stamp in China. Our K-1 was denied over not sending a white book for my fiancee's divorce. They really really only trust the white books. I cannot stress enough about how much they distrust Chinese things.

This round we just got married in China and while I was there, we got the white books for everything, then I went home and filed I-130.
