  1. Most people who are not doing a name change are asked to sign the photo, but not everyone.

If you asked for a name change, you should not have been asked to sign the photo.

However, sometimes people who didn't do a name chance aren't asked to sign and others who are doing a name change are asked to sign. Not very consistent.

If you didn't get a decision at the interview you will get one of these:

-approval in the mail asking you to wait for your oath letter.

-oath letter without formal approval letter (this is just as good).

-request for evidence that you'll have to respond to.

    -denial letter.

Thanks for your reply. I did not ask for the name change, as it's not easy to get name changed in SF. Even though the officer I dealt with, grilled me and was rude. He didn't seem to be happy to interview other people too. He kept on saying 'I have to go home' But at the end he told me that 'congratulations you passed civic and English test, but didn't take any additional documents from me. I basically couldn't understand his behavior. He said at last 'You responded well to all my questions'. He told me 'I will not be there at oath ceremony but congratulations right now'. i thought he made the decision and approved me. But when I got the sheet in hand, I asked him if he needs any additional docs 'He said your file is too huge for me to go through, I don't need anyhting else'. Now I just have to wait to know what he meant at that time. But verbally he told me at the end

'congratulations right now and I will not be present at oath ceremony'. He was very strict officer.

I am very sure, I will not be denied. The worst case scenario, If he had wanted to give me hard time, maybe he can delay the process by sending rfe, not taking the docs at interview and delay it by asking in mail. And wasting my couple months.

Even in worst case scenario if I get denial, I have plenty of docs to fight for the case. I mean my background is very clear, not even a parking ticket, never been out of country or CA, working on a reputed job, living at same place for last 3 years with spouse and submitted tons of docs.

Anyways I just had the bad luck of getting a tough officer.

  2. Hi all,

    I have two questions.

Is everyone asked to sign the photo at N400 interview? I was asked to sign the application and English testing sheets that I passed the test, but officer didn't ask me to sign the photo.

Is there anyone who got the sheet with tick mark on: 'decision will be mailed to home' and later on got the oath letter. Is is normal to get the check box: 'decision will be mailed' and then getting oath letter?

  3. Who says things like that?

That's not being tough; it's being rude.

You thanked him as a matter of politeness. It's the proper response to someone asking you to have a seat. His response was unnecessary.

The only concern I have is, I wanted to submit extra documents which I brought with me. It included 2014 tax transcript, which I didn't submit with application initially. That was very important. I asked him 2 times that I wanted to submit those docs, one time he said 'here is the deal, only reply to the questions which I ask'

The second time he told me 'your file is too huge, and I will have to go through whole of this drama (because I submitted a lot of documents, these were exactly his words) so I don't need any more documents'.

Now I got the letter that decision will be mailed to my home. There is no reason that I will get denied (I am very confident about it). Never been out of the country since I came, even never been out of CA. Lived at the same place with spouse since I came, having a joint lease and all other docs.

The only concern is, if someone else goes to review the file again before making decision, he will send me rfe for tax transcript which was a very important missing document.

  4. That's strange...Usually they grill the divorced ones. If you're married and have all the proof of bona fide marriage I don't see a reason why you've got those questions.

Nope, they grill the married ones who apply under the 3 year rule, but that guy was quite to the point guy. I said thank you when he asked me to sit on the seat after the oath, then he said 'don't thank me, I have not done anything for you'

  5. They don't even bother about tax return. What they concern about is that your previous marriage whether bona fide or not.

I am having an interview in SF this month. I am filing under 3 year marriage rule and my spouse will not be able to attend the interview. I have tons of documents and latest one is a joint lease of an apartment which we renewed last week for the whole next year (we have been living at the same place since I came).

Do you think it will be a problem to not bring spouse with me?

  6. I have a question regarding online status of N400. I applied in first week of march and didn't send the form (I don't remember the number) to get online updates of case status and text messages. But after I received case number N*xxxxxxxx, I logged into my USCIS account, which I created last year for I751 and registered my N400 case, with the expectation of getting text or email updates. I clicked Y to email and text alerts. But I don't receive any updates. I got bio. appointment letter and did bio last week, but case online still says that they received application and processing it.

So my question is, is it the right way of registering case online or I am doing something wrong? Is there someone who didn't send form initially, but registered case later on and getting regular updates?

  7. made this visa journey account, and posted topics and anyways, my husband and i didn't file single/ head of household. we file every year together, even though we paid 2800 last year.. any who my husband speaks fair English and reads ok, he has studied all one hundred questions. his interview is on monday at 8am. what happens if he doesn't pass the english writing test, i have him writing and answering some of the questions so it may help him learn something. would he be given another try just on the writing english test or he will get denied and have to reapply..

I just wanted to ask you the meaning of the title of this thread.

  8. GC Date: 05/18/12

    N400 applied: 03/06/15

    They received: 03/10/15

    Money order cashed: 03/12/15

    NOA received: 03/17/15

    NOA date: 03/12/15

    bio received: 03/28/15

    bio dated: 03/23/15

    bio appointment: 04/08/15

    Points to note:

Online status still says 'they received the application and processing it' and did not change to bio appointment notification. I was worried, but received bio so kinda relaxed now. So now I know to just to look for letters instead of waiting for texts or emails or online status.

Also, I called them yesterday to inquire about the bio letter and they had no clue even though the letter is dated 03/23/15 and was already sent to me.
