Finally, today I received a case notification from USCIS that my interview was scheduled. I do not have the exact date yet as the PDF letter has not shown on my ELIS account. Based on people's experiences, I should give it a day (24hrs) or two until I see the letter.
-
We all should move to San Bernardino, CA.
Congrats Jesse28!

Thank you so much, and hopefully some good news for you in the coming month or sooner!
Interview is 26 Federal Plaza, 8th Floor, Room 8-100. Not sure if that's technically the NY, Queens, or Brooklyn Field Offices, or if it even matters. Based on the USCIS website, it looks like they went through another reshuffle / consolidation in the FOs, and now the three have the same exact room numbers (see link below). If I remember correctly, Queens and NY had slightly different (but also overlapping) rooms in 26 Federal Plaza. Also, I don't even remember a Brooklyn FO.

Amazing! I'm sure you'll do just fine with this interview given that you had plenty of time to prepare. Let us know how it goes

I'd say check again tomorrow. This is a definitely a good sign. I understand that you have been in line for an interview since October 10, I therefore believe that the local USCIS field office might have eventually scheduled your interview date. However, like many people here have experienced, their interview dates or interview letters did not show up until a couple of days had passed.
-
@Me-Myself-and-I WOW Congrats big time! I see your field office timeline and I was like OMG super fast
-
This morning, I went to my USCIS NYC field office to check my N-400 status given that my status was changed to in-line on October 26 but no further updates after that. The immigration officer whom I talked to told me that USCIS has requested the field office for an available date to schedule me for a naturalization interview. However, since there is no available slot at this time, she told me to patiently wait. At the very end of our conversation, she advise me not to move as it would cause further delays in the process. I think I'll just follow her advice and wait until January to see if there will be any further updates.

Hello all,
I have a question... Do USCIS generally wait until your 3 or 5 years are completed to schedule an interview? For example, I applied 90 days prior to my 3 year anniversary (marriage based), but I wonder, will they only move my case forward once the 3 years are fully complete?
I have already had my biometrics done, but I am not ‘in line’ yet, and I wondered if that was something to do with timing of my 3 year anniversary.
Any insights?
It is also my impression that what you are saying is the case. I also applied around 90 days (see my signature for details) prior to my GC's 3rd anniversary. However, on October 26, I checked my Elis account and it said that USCIS has scheduled me for an interview. However, up until now, I heard nothing further. My GC's anniversary date is on Dec. 1

I feel like i'm the only one waiting to here a response from USCIS...i went to my interview Oct 17 and a "decision cannot be made". I haven't heard from them ever since and when you call, they tell you to wait 90 days...smh
Hi there, do you mind to share your timeline with us? Thank you.

I'm praying that ALL our cases are moving forward this week. I'm so bored of waiting. It hurts

Hi iamwhatiam80
Field office for my Mom was in Federal Plaza Manhattan. The officer checked the box with Congratulations you have passed the test. Reading the threads it seems some are getting the oath in few weeks, and others in months. I really don't know why is taking so long for NYC aOath. It used to be 1 week when I took my Citizenship 10 years ago.
Hi there! I’d suggest you book for an Infopass to go in and talk to an immigration officer at the field office where your mother was interviewed. Check an Infopass website at midnight tonight for available appointment slots at the Federal Building.

Yours probably is the Queens field office that is located in Federal plaza, Manhattan. This is a slow field office as per the cases i have seen here.
That’s not quite right. Look at July online filers from Queens Field Office. Both of their cases were completed within 4 months. Queens processes N-400 far faster than NYC field office. I’m with Nyc field office

HA! You get every another Thurdays? Mine is on Tuesdays. I hate that texts/emails from USCIS telling us that they are actively review our cases and there is nothing to be done at this time. When I see it, I am like "You are wasting my time, electricity, internet, etc."

I showed the plane ticket; as to the certificate, they need the original and they'll give it back to you with the passport.
They return it to you once you pick up your passport.
THANK YOU NICK!

Thanks!! You need to bring proof of travel; I applied on Friday afternoon and I'm going to pick it up today at 3pm so 1 business day. If you live near a passport agency it's totally pointless (and a huge waist of $)to use an expediter.
Thanks,
Nicola
Hi Nick, have a quick question. Did they return you the cert of naturalization on Friday or they are planning to return it to you today when you go picking up your passport?

Hello all,
I had my interview yesterday and my application approved. The USCI website was updated today showing that on Nov. 3 my application was approved and that my oath date has been scheduled. I was assigned to a much smaller field office, previous one was Los Angeles location for ROC, which could partly be why my case moved a lot faster than most and I filed on the 5-year residency.
I checked-in 15-20 minutes before my appointment. I'm not sure what time my IO called me in because I turned my phone off but it had to be 5-10 minutes after my appointment time since a new TV program on CNN had just started. My IO was very nice and chatty which was a relief since I'm not a small talk type of person lol. My interview lasted about 50 minutes, but I think that was because she accidentally restarted her computer before she called me in so she had to set that up for a bit.
IO asked for my GC and ID so she can scan into the system then she asked about my last name change. Because her system was still not up fully she said if I had submitted documents showing my name change. I told her yes and that I actually had uploaded several documents more than once because the online system would't let me delete them. She finally had my application up and confirmed the times I had submitted each document lol. A little after she started testing me on reading first and then writing. Because I was a tad bit nervous I accidentally omitted the line in the letter "i", only putting the period on the word. She looked at it and asked if that was correct or if there was something missing. I quickly looked at it and corrected it. Yikes!!! We then moved to questions and I got all first 6 correct so she stopped there. She said that I had passed the difficult part of the testing, which left me wondering what else was there for her to test me on.
After a few minutes of small talk and other computer stuff she started to review my N-400. She briefly reviewed each part and had to fix certain portions of my application were instead of putting "To Present" on certain dates the online system automatically put the date I submitted my application, Sept. 12. After reviewing all the personal information portion she paused for a bit and started to ask me the Yes/No questions in Part 12 of the application, including questions 45-50. We finished and she had me sign on a decisive similar to an iPad to confirm my information was correct and that I approved the changes made. She looked at her computer screen and blurred out that there were no other issues, printed something and in a nonchalant manner said that she was recommending or approving my application, I can't remember, and that in the paper she was printing it would say "congratulations..." She then handed me my approval form and went over details about the oath ceremony date, which surprisingly will be in a couple of weeks. She told me she was to informed that days applicants who were approved that they would be taking their oath in LA on November 16th. She closed my file and placed it behind her and ended the interview. I had a question for her about some stuff which reminded her that she had to write something in my file lol. And that was that!
On a side note, between our small talks she mentioned that yesterday she was doing July paper applications (she didn't specify if those were interviews or reviews) and today all seemed be online filers. That they, not sure if she meant her office or all field offices, were trying to balance paper and online filers. I blurred out "oh is that why my application moved a lot faster" but she didn't say yes or no or continue to provide more information. I didn't want to pry too much either because I just wanted to continue the interview and be done with it.
Congratulations! You are awesome

Your mother will only be able to bring over an adopted child if both of the parents are dead. Just make sure you look into the US laws regarding adoption and immigration otherwise your plan will fail.
Hi there. I don't think this is true. I read on USCIS website and I am sure my adoptive sister is considered my mother's immediate relative given that our case meets all the criteria ruled out by USCIS. My sister was adopted when she was 2 years old. Since then and now that she is 15 years old, my mother has had a sole formal custody of my sister. See information from USCIS below:
Who is an Adopted Child Under the Immediate Relative Process?
Under this process, an adopted child is considered, for immigration purposes, to be the child (or adult son or daughter) of the adopting parent if:
-
The parent adopted the child before his or her 16th birthday (or before the 18th birthday under certain circumstances as described below). You submit evidence of a full and final adoption
AND -
The parent had legal and physical custody of the child for at least two years while the child was a minor
- The legal custody must have been the result of a formal grant of custody from a court or other governmental entity
- The custody and residence requirement may be met by custody and residence that preceded the adoption
- The two years custody and residence requirements are waived for certain abused children
A child is still considered to be an adopted child if they were adopted after his or her 16th birthday but before his or her 18th birthday, and:
-
The child is the birth sibling of another child who was adopted by the same parent(s) before the other child’s 16th birthday and immigrated through the Immediate Relative Process
OR - The child is the birth sibling of another child who was adopted by the same parent(s) before the other child’s 16th birthday and who immigrated as an orphan based on an adoption by the same parent(s)
-
The parent adopted the child before his or her 16th birthday (or before the 18th birthday under certain circumstances as described below). You submit evidence of a full and final adoption

Dear All,
I truly appreciate all the comments/suggests everyone has made so far. I have now managed to see the overall picture of processes from both options; consular filing and petitioning while the beneficiaries are in the US. I will carefully weigh between pros and cons of each options to help me make the most sensible and situation-driven decisions. At least, now I feel relief that I will have no issue with an affidavit of support as I should have a job when I need to file this document or otherwise my aunt can step in to be a co-sponsor.
I cannot thank you all enough for this!

Yes, but if you look at the bottom right corner you can see the last update was on 10/31. However, I know they have updated that early October and I don't see any change between the two updates.
I always notice that it's only the date on the top that will have impact on the processing timeline for service centers/field offices. The date at the bottom seems to change more randomly with no effects on the timeline.
