  1. Thanks for the responses. I called USCIS and they told me that actually all notices will be sent to the address given in the I-751 package, NOT our old address, thank God! I had changed our address with USCIS online right before I called them anyway so all is well! The woman I spoke to didn't say anything about any penalties and didn't even make it seem like a big deal. In any event, they have our correct address now.

  2. Hello all,

My husband and I just applied for the I-751 at the VSC. The package was sent 4/02, received 4/06. No checks cashed or notices at this time. I'm just wondering: we moved from Virginia to New York in Oct. of 07 after he received his first greencard. We didn't file any sort of change of address with USCIS but we did with the postal service and all of our I-751 paperwork reflects our current address. Will this present any sort of issue in terms of our receiving notices?

  4. We had our greencard interview today at 11:30 am in Norfolk, VA. We arrived about 15 minutes early and had to wait for about five. We were called by a very friendly woman in her mid-thirties. We followed her into an office where we made a bit of small talk while she looked at my husband's file. She then asked for our driver's licenses and passports and removed his I-94. She commented that we had waited a bit long in the 90 day period (K1 visa) and we explained that I had wanted to plan the wedding together once my husband was here. She then asked my husband how we met. She asked for our evidence and we gave her joint banks statements, credit cards, cable and power bills, car title, car insurance, life insurance. She asked for our lease and we explained that we have no lease, only a verbal agreement. She asked all the compulsory questions ( i.e., do you plan to practice polygamy?), then asked to see our photos. She looked at all of them and seemed impressed that my husband's parents had come to the U.S. for the wedding. She made comments about most of our photos and was very personable, smiling and laughing throughout the interview. At the end she said that she had what she needed to make a decision by the end of the day and that we would hear something in around two weeks. She asked if we had any questions. We asked if his namecheck was complete and she said that it was. Though we were disappointed that she didn't say we were approved right then, we felt confident about the whole process. We're just wondering whether to go on and buy tickets to go to Russia in August...we don't want to wait for the fares to keep going up....

  5. Hello all,

We are preparing for our AOS interview at the end of this month, and I thought I remembered seeing somewhere that the spouse has to fill out a new I-864 affidavit of support to take to the interview. However, on the request for applicant to appear notice, it says to submit one "unless already submitted"--which, of course, we did. Can anyone shed some light on this please? Thanks!

  6. You need to check what occurs in your state... In MN, either party in the marriage can change there name to anything they want (first, middle, last).

    Example:

    Before Marriage:

    Man: John Robert Smith

    Woman: Michelle Adelle Johnson

    After Marriage"

    Man: Rowdy Roddy Piper

    Woman: Zachnovia Panda Bear

    Wow, that's unbelievable!

Milenka, thanks for starting this thread. I also have been pondering the same question...and have held off getting my named changed because I have too much on my plate to petition the court right now. Hopefully you have the same situation in CA that fwaguy mentionned about MN...I know in VA I will have to go to court.

  7. Ok, if i've had the medical in london and then i apply for AOS, all i need to supply is the vaccination part of the I-693 form, i dont have to go see a civil surgeon and have another medical do i ?

That's correct, you do not need another full medical. The trick is finding a civil surgeon who will do only the I-693A. Make sure to tell them when you call to make the appointment that you only need the vaccination supplement.

  8. Milenka, I am the wife of the Russian guy that Slim mentioned....Boris. Just send him a PM asking what you want to know. He'll be happy to tell you about his interview experience. He has a recent thread in this forum so you should be able to find him easily.

  9. Congrats! We also had a lawyer for the K1 process but not for AOS. Our AOS went fine, without any requests for additional evidence (our interview will be in April). Having a lawyer in the K1 process mostly provided us with a great big piece of mind that my husband would be able to come to the U.S. But as a piece of advice, if you follow the VJ guides for AOS exactly, you won't need a lawyer.

  10. they just don't trust us :]

Well, notscenenough, unfortunately, my husband and I are wondering if that may be true...we have been wondering if maybe more Russians have tried to commit immigration fraud and therefore haven't been granted the transfers. Though it would be a form of discrimination, since USCIS isn't required to give anyone a transfer, there's nothing to be said about it.

    Oh well.

I am also seven years older than my husband, so that could have something to do with why we didn't get the transfer. It was just disappointing that another K1er from Germany with our DO did, and we didn't (we were cheering each other on through VJ). When I get a chance I'm going to take RJ's suggestion to look back through the CSC transferee thread.

Who can say why USCIS does anything that they do???
