  1. This is all such great information, thank you!!! :) I will definitely come prepared just in case, because you never know. Is going to Samana the cool thing to do after the interview?! We plan to go there, another friend as well, and now you tell me you guys went too LOL!

    LOL!

Too bad our interviews were apart and we didn't meet before because in a way its better to go with a group lol I went there because I have never been to Samana before. And we could have gone to Punta Cana/Bavaro and book a hotel there, but since we didn't have to pay and my boss' place is just beautiful, its a set of small bungalows type of structures, all stones and wood and "canas", everything is old, no air conditioner, the bungalow we were had only 3 walls and the shower and toilets were out in the open LOL..The weather was great!

Samana has nice beach hotels, but we were closer to Playa Rincon, and during the weekday the beach was empty. From Santo Domingo to Samana or Punta Cana is just less than 3 hours using the new highway. The town? meh. But places to go? Playa Rincon, Playa Fronton (you have to take a small boat), El Cayo, there is a public beach and a resort. The best place to eat was this small restaurant owned by a couple from Spain, named El Cabito, if you like cliff diving, this is the place, the sunsets are spectacular.

  2. Congratulations!!! And thank you! I know to wear comfortable shoes and be ready to wait standing up for hours :( I hope they get the rest of the issues figured out soon. We have so much evidence, and I think we won't even need it. Seems they don't ask for much most of the time. But we will bring it just in case. Keep us posted when you get your visa, so we have an idea how long it takes after approval. What hotel did you stay at?

On another note, did you like Boca Marina? I've always wanted to go, hoping to go when I am in SD for the interview :)

Thank you! Do you know how far the Embassy is from the Colonial Zone?

Thank you, I wish you the same! I live in Santo Domingo but my fiance and I stayed at Crowne Plaza, in the malecon. We found a good price in expedia.com (cheaper than calling the hotels let me tell you). It has balconies, and this was important because we smoke...and the sea view was important too. After the interview we went to Samana, and when I told my boss that I was going there and looking for hotel he said whaaat?? don't spend more money, stay at my house! we saved up to 1000 dollars and we had Playa Rincon for ourselves! His house is up on a hill with the amazing view of the samana bay. Then we booked Hotel Embajador, (again cheaper in expedia.com) from friday to sunday.

We didn't bring any bags other than our documents and support evidence, I had my set of documents in one of the "acordeon" filers ? (don't know how to say it in english) and my fiance brought the I129f copy in a binder with the papers inside those plastic covers that go in the binders? everything was labeled in both, the first lady that called for the documents made compliments on how well organized we were..funny note by the way, this lady asked me for the fiance letter , I looked in the binder and got the letters we sent first, she said no, its another one, I was confused, I was showing her the fiance letter, she went to the back to get "one for me" and she brought the DS156k and I was like OOOoh, but you already have it with the DS160 and the I134, she didn't see it, that got me scared for a moment because I thought I was missing a document..

The evidence we had was more photos that I printed in a photo paper, 3 per page (3 pages in total), like 140 pages of whatsapp and all the IRS, W2, bank statements that my fiance brought. Nothing was requested but I think every case is different, my fiance said it was a waste of time and overkill, I think not, because I think we were just lucky. Other people may be asked for more photos and the backup evidence of the I134, and even another interview..bring everything you have because you never know,

Boca Marina, its owned by one of our clients, so I have been there several times. It was the first place I took my fiance when first visited me 2 years ago, and its one of the very few places that my mother likes, so it was perfect. My nephews like it too, because you can use the beach right next to the tables/pier. We spent around 350 dollars for 8 persons. Neptuno is next door, but I like the service and attention more in Boca Marina.

The distance from Ciudad Colonial to the new Embassy is about 10-12km...no traffic at 5-6am. If you have not booked a hotel yet, check expedia and compare prices. There is another kinda closer, Hotel Plaza Naco.

I will keep you posted when I get the passport!

  3. Well, we will be going to Santo Domingo from Santiago the day of our interview, so we would have no choice but to pay someone to safeguard at least one of our cellphones so that we can call a taxi afterwards to take us to the buses back to Santiago. We do not plan on getting a hotel room, so does anyone have any other suggestions as far as being able to get to the buses w/o having a cell phone on us? Do you think taxis will be whizzing by that we can flag down to take us somewhere if we leave the cellphone home?

There will be plenty of taxis around. we ended up paying for those. Do I think they over charge? yes I do, so come prepared. I dont know, I wouldn't trust my cell phone to anyone holding a sign saying that they will keep it safe.

  4. Thank you KayDeeCee, the question Emily asked was regarding the birth certificate for the AOS. I thought that being a document like a legalized birth certificate it has to be certified by a legal or certified translator. The USCIS link that you provided says Please submit certified translations for all foreign language documents. The translator must certify that s/he is competent to translate and that the translation is accurate.

I've sent university's documents like transcripts and diploma to US' Colleges that required a certified english translation, I don't think the US Colleges would've accepted my transcripts translated by me.

Considering this visa process being even more sensitive than university's documents, It made sense to me that it has to be done by someone who has documents that prove that he or she can certify english translations.

But, if the USCIS considers that anyone who is fluent in english can translate any document for this whole visa, AOS, etc, process... then, it does surprises me.

I guess it is ok then, she can do her translations.

  5. When I submitted our k-1 petition, I translated a document from Spanish to English. I included a letter that said I was competent to translate and that the translation had been done accurately. I copied what was on the USCIS site. We haven't had our interview, but the petition was approved without issues. I'll look for the phrase tomorrow and send it to you if you would like.

Granted, even more if you are a certified translator.. but, competent translator also means having the legal capacity or legally qualified to translate certain documents and personally, and not only because I am fluent in english, for this K1 process I rather have a legal translator to translate any document the US Consulate requires, I've used the services of this place I know, good reputation, and they even allowed me to review my documents before finalizing the translation, specially with medical terms.

  6. I haven't heard anything about it, there is nothing in their facebook page either. I even confirmed my interview for next monday by phone. They did post this at their website

Important Notice: The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Santo Domingo kindly asks all visa applicants experiencing flu-like symptoms including fever, headaches, body aches, etc. to stay home until they are no longer ill. As soon as the person coming to visit the consular section recovers, please contact our Call Center to reschedule the interview for a more convenient date and time. To contact the Call Center you must dial 809-200-3232. There is no need to purchase a pin number.

It was closed for a couple of days because of the move to the new brand nice looking buildings, and it was informed in their website, facebook, and newspaper here.

  7. this was good info. i am going to santo domingo in september for my husbands interview, at least i have narrowed down to august o september.

    thanks

Hey that's great! be advice, since the new Embassy/Consulate was just formally open today, by september the prices may be higher, also, I only saw photos in their website, I don't know anything else about it. Tell your husband to take a look before booking, just in case :)

  8. You know, there is a phone number you can call from the US, and talk to the embassy here in the DR, 1-877-804-5402 and it will be charged to your credit card. Tell them the issue and ask them instructions on how to fix the names and DOB and what other options you may have. I think since the birth certificates and ID card (cedula) will show the correct names, maybe it will cause a small delay?

    Think positive!!

  9. Hey I drove around the new US Embassy/Consulate here in the DR, and I just found a hotel, a small hotel...so small that it is actually called...Micro Hotel Suites and Condo....seriously..no joke....(hahaha) I didn't see it before tho.

Anyway, it is located in the same avenue as the US Embassy/Consulate and it has been there for 7 years (according to them). Ave Republica de Colombia No.10, Altos de Arroyo Hondo. ph. 809-368-1100 microhotelcondosuites@hotmail.com and it is kinda close of the International Airport La Isabella. I would say it's like 300m from the Consulate. (I'm terrible with the distances), and it's around US$60 per night, includes breakfast.

I have to say, I have never been there, I saw some photos in a website, looks "ok"...can't say anything else about the service, rooms, etc.

So, at least something close to the new place?

  10. Hi guys,

could anyone explain me this mystery statement please:

<applicants will not be required to meet the vaccination requirements at the time of the visa interview.>

    next

<The medical examination must take place before the visa interview.>

This has been copied from this page: http://london.usembassy.gov/immigrant-visas/medical-examination.html

    Now my question is,

don't they made all necessary procedures and ALL SHOTS which are required? Or not?

The medical exam cost £245. Does it include everything?

    Thank you,,,

Hey, K visas, vaccines are optional,. like it says..

On the day of the medical examination, the physician will be required to verify that the immigrant visa applicant has met the vaccination requirement, or that it is medically inappropriate for the applicant to receive them. Note: K visa applicants will not be required to meet the vaccination requirements at the time of the visa interview. They will, however, be required to meet the requirements at the time they apply for an adjustment of status with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Because of a system issue I couldn´t get the vaccines at the day of the medical examination, but I wanted them, they kept telling me its optional etc..so I managed my way back in and got them today, Why? because it will be for me one less form to fill out for the AOS. If you don´t get the vaccines, then you have to find a civil surgeon to give you the missing shots and pay some fee. If money its not an issue and you are healthy etc, get the vaccines.

    Good luck!

  13. Hey I just went there this week. The consult is US$180 and vaccines US$110, if you don't have any vaccine at all. If you have any vaccine, they will give you a refund the same day. Even when its optional, get them. It will save you time eventually when going for the AOS. Oh and they recommend you go 10-15 days before the interview, I tried to go early and they told me no! haha

I posted something about my experience at the consultorios de visa this week, let me know if you need any other info. Msg me :)

  14. I emailed the Consultorios de VISA yesterday and I got an e-mail today stating that the medical exam and vaccinations were $290 (see below). so I am really confused at this point.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saludos, el costo es de: $290.00 dolares

New Form Submission Mensaje: Quería saber el costo de un examen médico y vacunas para un adulto de edad 30 años de edad. Gracias!

Hey I was just about to msg you!

Yesterday I got a call from the consultorio de visa asking me about the vaccines, I said but I was told that I can´t get the vaccines and explained the whole thing from the day before, the lady told yes she remembers and apologized for calling.

To make the long story short, Somone else talked to me and explain me some things and said I can get the vaccines if I still want to, I asked her about the prices and she said to call another number, and I did, just got off the phone.

The prices of the vaccines for someone with no vaccine at all is $110 dollars plus $180 for the consult...$290 in total. Your fiance and I are in the same range of age according to the CDC 27-49.

    Anything else, let me know.

  15. A friend went to the US on a b1/b2 visa, she has been spending months in the US living with her boyfriend and studying at home for her boards, she returns home for a month and then goes back to the US, she never overstays...they got engaged....now she will marry him in a month or so, and she was advised to do so (lawyers...) ...after the wedding she has to adjust status right?

What would be the pros and cons? how long will it take her to adjust her status and get her green card? She is in the US now.

    Thank you in advance.
