  1. I just received my biometrics appointment in the mail (for 05/06/2014); walk-in an hour later and i was done with everything (no questions asked)

    That's excellent.

I finally received my NOA last night.

Now waiting for my turn for fingerprint. Hope Detroit will allow walk in since I am still in school. I might need to bring my schedule with me just in case.

  2. I totally understand that. But community college is a lot cheaper and it is a government based education institute. Therefore, it can show that your brother has a better intention to come here just for bettering his education.

Some of my friends, even my sister tried to apply to a private ESL school and got denied. Because those schools are considered as not legit as government/state university or college. Plus, you are still require to take ESL classes before taking any program classes.

Again, good luck. If you need help or more suggestion. Let me know.

  3. Before your brother even applied for a F1, you should have applied to a school first. Meaning, he will have to get through a prospective school admission. He might have to pay an admission fee. some schools, it is refundable but most schools it is not. It is showing that he had a good intention to study. Not just pop up in some ESL classes, and never show up for the rest....

    Anyway...

I applied for F1 when I was 29 with two degrees? And It went smoothly.

    Here how I did it:

    1. I had a letter explain why I wanted to pursue my career as a nurse in the US. I also had a proof of financial support from my parents which would cover my expenses in the US.

    2. I applied at a community college because it was cheaper. They issued my I-20. The school registered me ESL classes but I didn't have to pay tuition until it was due.

    3. I sent my i20 together with the letter, application form and fee.

    4. I got back NOA with an approval.

Your brother can try again and make more effort with your help in applying yo school. To apply to the school. Go talk to school international counselor, they have more experience in this particular area and can give you a better advice or specific answers that suit best for your brother case.

    Good luck.

  4. If you don't plan to work as a health care professional, you don't need it. But it is recommended to get all doses.

Some vaccination such IPV (Polio) as an adult, we just need one shot as a booster.

I am a nurse. When I went to nursing school here in the US, it was a requirement for me to get all those vaccination even I already had it as a child. As a health care provider, it is a good idea to finish all recommended doses to protect yourself in the future.

  5. I haven't received any type of notifications since my package was delivered; check hasn't been cashed yet either. I have called uscis customer service and an immigration officer told me to wait 30 days. They are saying petitions are approved on a first come, first served basis. I have a feeling it doesn't really work this way.

Well, we still have to play the patience games. My cowork waited 30 days to get a NOA and he got his bio appointment soon after.

My husband just called uscis this morning and I will update what is going on with our case. He would not tell me, not until he gets home from work. Anxiety is killing me!

  6. We're in the same boat.

    Have you received NOA1 yet?

I have not. Tried to call USCIS today but they couldn't reveal any info for me because I am not a petitioner and my husband was at work. So my husband called again. He had to wait more than 1.30 hours and decided to hang up because he had a meeting. So he will try to call them again tomorrow. It has been over 2 weeks and checks haven't been cashed either. I am getting very anxious.

  7. Filed for aos etc on 28th March. Still waiting on the e-notification etc. Also kinda expecting an RFE as my partner is unemployed at present. (We only arrived here 6 weeks ago, he lived in the UK with me up until then) So we are using our saving to show we are financially stable but I only have one recent bank statement as evidence.

Thank you. I have been waiting for any kind of notification anxiously. I hope nothing is wrong with my case. My husband and I reviewed it so many times before we sent but still forgot my original birth cert.

  8. I am fairly new here. I have been anxious about my process. I sent my package on March 17th and was delivered on March 19th at Chicago lockbox. I haven't heard anything from them yet. :( I keep calling USCIS customer service. The answer was I have to wait until it reaches 30 days.

Well, I guess I have to wait.

I have a question as well. If I am missing my original birth certificate. Can I mail it in right away? Or should I wait until I get NOA first?
