  1. Anyone refusing treatment for TB is incredibly stupid, and being proud of it is worse.

I refused because I know I didn't have it. And I have a right to refuse treatment as others do in any medical issue. And hey I was dang right. My test was false positive!!!

I am proud to know my rights about medical treatment. Don't just call people stupid if they don't do what you think it is right thing to do. How many times physicians misdiagnose the disease and perform/give the wrong treatment?! If you have enough knowledge about disease process and treatment of TB and you were in my shoes. You would do the same.

I am very proud I refused the treatment of the disease I never have.

Would you get mastectomy done when your doctor said you have the cancer. And then find out later, it was a medical mistake? And later find a big law suit against your health care peovider.

Please stop judging people. People do make their own decisions regards their own health isssue unless you are in his/her advance directive. People can be stupid and make mistake all they want. But calling people name is just not right. You are knowledgeable about this immigration world I have to admit. Please stop the judgemental treatment to others. This is my last post. Good luck.

  2. When PPD skin test is positive, it is confirmed with Chest x-ray or T-spot (blood test). Sputum culture can be done also depending on your health care provider/professional. There are some drugs that treat both active and inactive TB such Isoniazid, Rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane), Ethambutol (Myambutol), and

Pyrazinamide. These drugs cause urine turn orange and it stains your clothes if you don't wipe properly. But don't freak out. It is a long treatment and some side effects.

People can contrast TB anywhere any times. If they are active, you will see that person will have a productive cough with frosty pink sputum for over 3 months. Then, that person needs to be in isolation. Seriously!

I am a nurse. When I got into nursing school, I tested negative. I was in nursing school for a year. I tested positive. So I did a T spot with negative result. I belive I got some TB agent on my skin when I was in one of the facilities I worked in.

Most people in crowded population will likely test positive. Nothing to worry. Just get another test done to be sure. I refused the treatment because I didn't think I had it. And I know the side effects of the drug. Yes I am a nurse and I am non compliance one.

  3. So for the interview can you just bring the application materials that you sent with the AOS file or do you need like new employment letter, updated pay stubs, etc?

My interview letter states I have to bring everything if I haven't submitted already. So I plan to put things together in a folder and one big photo album. I think to print more pictures but I have more than enough evidence and strong marriage tie.

  4. Gah. Starting to get very antsy now.

Day 81 and still no update on my EAD. Tried calling and said they cant do anything until the 90 days is up.

I would suggest you call again until you get someone who is really helpful.

Sometimes you will have to tell them that. It suggests on the USCIS website that after 75 days of my priority date. I can call and make a service request about my EAD case. Keep calling. Good luck.

  5. 1. What issues may cause the I-130 to not be approved, tax etc?

Yes. Sponsor's in com under 125% HHS of poverty guideline, never file income tax, no employment status....

    2. Is it best to use a lawyer or filing on our own is good enough

You can do it yourself. Just do some research on here. You will be just fine and don't have to deal with headache from attorney.

    3. What documents do they require for the interview regarding our marriage

A lot... Basically called boba fide of marriage .... Again, do the search. There are many forums that people talk about it.

    4. Will my frequent visits to the US pose a problem?

    Why would it be?

    4. What is the wait period for Jamaicans

Are you planning to file AOS in the U.S? Or get a K1 visa from Jamaica? You can check on USCIS.org for processing time.

  6. From what I understand the U.S. Educational system, kids can go to public school regardless of his/her race, nationalities, sex, religious, cultures and immigration status.

That's why you have heard so many issues in the past years that tax payers wasn't happy to pay money for illegal immigrants' children to go to district school.

College is must different. Without a legal immigration / non immigration status, they will not admit you to the school system regardless.

  7. Have you read the instructions for Form I-864?

I wonder the same. I even provided him a link on above post.

Your professor can sponsor you if he is eligible as stated in posts above and I-864 instruction. However, I doubt he will sponsor because he will be accountable on any actions you make in the future regarding immigration laws and etc. It is just like you co-sign your friend a credit card if he don't pay for it. You will have to pay for it. Unless your professor does really trust you and is very kind enough to do such thing.

Any other relatives or family members? I wish you good luck. Nothing is impossible; it might just take more time and effort!

  8. Agreed with all comments.

My suggestion to you is to apply for GC. It helps tremendously with your school and work. Because once you file I-765 and I-485, about 3 month period, you will get work authorization. Yes, you can file OPT after graduation but you will have to pay a fee for that. Filing together with I-485, I-765 is free. Plus, your tuition will be considered in-state which is about 2-3 times less than an international rate once you have your GC. Unless you have a grant or scholarship to pay for it, you don't need to worry about it. I had been paying an international rate for almost 10 years and it really got me at some points!

Living in the U.S. or not after your finish your Ph.D is your choice in the future. AOS is your decision NOW to make.

    My two cents!

    Good luck.

  9. My F 1 is not expired or it will soon. However, I informed my international advisor about AOS. I have still been reminding in school since I first started AOS process. I don't think it is a problem for her to be in school. Just don't forget to tell the international advisor of her school.

  10. I wish you on-the-spot approval on your interview!

Awe you are so sweet. Same to you. I am not too worry because I know my husband will make sure I get my GC. It is just 4 days before our wedding ceremony. We are having a big ceremony and reception on Aug 9th. I'm so excited for both events that just 4 days apart. Then, we will leave town for own honeymoon to Mexico after I receive my GC or I make sure I got stamped on my passport.

  11. My timeline is below in case it is helpful to anyone. For whatever it is worth and have been married to my US citizen wife for four years and we have a child. I've adjusted from F1, to F1-post completion OPT after completing my PhD, then to H1B, and have been cleared for work authorization three times in the last three years (including this AOS). Anyways, here is my breakdown:

    • 04/07/2014: Package mailed to USCIS
    • 04/10/2014: package received by USCIS
    • 04/15/2014: NOA for I-485, I-130, I-131, I-765
    • 04/22/2014: Biometrics appointment letter received for 05/08/2014
    • 05/08/2014: Biometrics taken 05/08/2014
    • 05/27/2014: Status change to 'testing and interview'
    • 06/02/2014: Interview scheduled for 07/03/2014
    • 06/20/2014: Notice that EAD and advance parole are approved
    • 06/21/2014: EAD card delivered
    • 07/03/2014: Interview. We were approved on the spot after about five minutes for a 10 year card. The AO was super friendly and said my card should be delivered in the next three weeks and gave me a warm welcome.
Based on what I have seen here, this was incredibly fast. Hope this helps!

Congratulations! That was fast. Where is your local office?

  12. Oh you will. Fall semester starts September. Most schools require students to register for classes in August. I'm in a nursing school. So I don't have to worry about registering because school of nursing register for every single nursing students. For general student, it might need to consult with academic advisor/counselor prior to register for classes. Good luck.
