Call a us army recruiter tomorrow, ask if they still grant lpr status during enlistment. It was a big deal 3 years ago.
They can put you on the fast track to citizenship. They can't help you get LPR status.

Do you have anything else with both your names? Bills? Credit cards? Phone contracts?
Those worked well for me at my interview. My name isn't on our apartment lease.

Idea:
Your fiance gets a B2 visa. Visits for birth of baby. Returns home. Finishes K1 process. You marry. Live happily ever after.
-
The cops did not pick on you. When you refused the test, their hands were tied and they had to assume you were intoxicated. Just their job.
You should probably consult with an immigration attorney.

Someone posted that you only need $985 to file AOS. Not true. You must file I-130 ($420) along with AoS or it will be denied. Make sure the amounts on the checks you send are correct or they will return your packet and checks to you.

Hi everyone!
I'm working on my husband's AOS. I immediately got stuck on part 1 of the I-864. When filling out my name, do I use my maiden name or married last name? Any help would be much appreciated!
Jasmine
What is your name? Wait! Don't tell me! Now write that down.
If you take your husband's last name at marriage then that is your legal name except for instances where your maiden name is specifically requested.

I think you're supposed to have a new I-20 from your new school before you leave. I went home between transferring schools when I was F-1 without getting a new I-20. I didn't have a problem at POE when I returned but there was a problem with my SEVIS record afterwards and I was advised that I was out-of-status.Hi all,
I would like to find out if anyone has experience with traveling while transferring between universities. I will be changing to a different institution next Spring (2015), but would like to visit family it possible during the Christmas/New Year break.
Is there any restriction to traveling out of the country while having the I-20 transferred from one university to another?

First time poster, long time lurker to the forum.
So my wife is here on a student visa from Canada, she has been going to school here for the past 2 years.I am a US citizen. We got married on July 31, went to an immigration attorney and filed all the paperwork for the AOS. ( I130, I131, G325A, I485, I693, I765, I864)
Our attorney recommended that she stay in school until we have the green card, but due to recent financial circumstances it would be far more beneficial if we could withdraw and get the tuition refund. Our attorney still recommends that she stay in school. I have read here and other places that once USCIS has received your AOS application that you no longer have to keep your previous status.
So my question is will removing her from school cause any problems with the AOS? Let me know if I forgot any crucial details.
Thank you for all your previous help as well, this site is of great value.
It's entirely up to her to keep her F-1 status or get her tuition refund. Once USCIS received your petition and her adjustment of status application then she is authorized to stay. If yours is a straightforward adjustment case then she shouldn't have any problems getting her green card.

Reason for visit: to visit you! After all, you do live here and youra patents aren't gonna come to the US and not visit with you.
-
I signed up for email and text updates and the only update I ever got was that they received my packet. I found that it was easiest to just log on to USCIS case status and search using your receipt numbers.

15 weeks. New York.

You have a bank account together? If not, go ahead and add your spouse to your bank account or have you spouse add your name to theirs. Take the photos you have together and mail you've both had sent to the same address. We also had our interview in New York and that's pretty much all we had as well (we also had our internet and cable bills from the last 3 months). Our adjudicator just glanced at them and seemed to be more interested in finding out how we met and if I was comfortable with my wife being a funeral director.

So i went to do the doctor's exam on september, and i did not got flu shots and i have no idea what the nurse filled for ''flu shots'' because she told me is confidential what is inside the sealed envelope even tho she told me i am ok and all is fine with me and she is very nice so i don't believe she was lying
But the big question is, since i did not got the flu shot and don't know what she filled in that space, what is going to happen if i send my application to USCIS in october/november?
Will i have to go and ask her what she put in the ''flu shot'' space? or there is no need to take it cause i did the exams in august and i am only filling in october but you only have to take flu shots if you do the exam in october?
please someone help I am confused now
Not flu season yet. I think there's an option on there for that.

Hi everybody.
I havent started my K1 visa yet, ill do it in december bc we have to wait 6 months after my fiance´s divorce before filling the application.
The thing is. Ill go to live in a small town in wisconsin, called Waterloo. I have always lived in big cities, and i am used to this kind of life. Also, im very independant. I have worked since i was 18 and i never asked anybody for help.
Now im worried bc i wont be able to work for a while in the USA for a while, around 5 or 6 months maybe.
I dont like much the idea of depending of my husband (by then), staying at home alone watching tv or sleeping while he's out working.
I feel as if im going to be in jail in this town. there isnt much to do there except for going to the park. i cant go anywhere bc this town is far from madison for going by foot, i need a car, which i dont have, and it will also take me a while to get a driver license.
I wanted to take english classes, but they r in madison, and i dont have a way to arrive there, so i cant take them.
he says he can take me and drop me in madison, and when he finishes working, pick me up, but, come on!!!! im not going to wait for him for hours just doing nothing. Also, i dont like the idea of him driving me everywhere as if i was a 10-year-old girl. I wish i could do all those things alone, not depending of him, and the idea of not having other option than depending on him, depresses me. I know it could sound childish and stubborn, but, i dont want to depend on him, and i would rather stay home alone doing nothing than letting him drive me everywhere.
Also, im worried bc i wont be able to work, to earn my own money, bc ill need the work permit... ive been even thinking of working "illegally" for a while until i get the green card. I dont care if i have to do any kind of job and if the salary is low. this place is full of farms, and i would suck a cow udder with my own mouth for $5 an hour just to have my own money and be out of home and keep myself busy and meet new people. I dont want him and her daugther to be the only ppl i know and i talk with.
Also, i hate that he likes to live far from downtown, even in those smalls towns. He likes to live leaving the town, isollated, bc he likes the peace and quiet, and i dont!!!! i feel like if the house will be in the middle of a desert island. The only thing ill see is fields, a park, and few houses, when i would like to live in a neighborhood with more houses, and more ppl, and where i can find "life" in it.
We have been fighting for this "house" issue the whole weekend, i feel like if he wants me to accept all these things bc for him they r normal, but he doesnt really understand me, even if he says he does. he doesnt know how hard is changing ur life, going to live to another country, feel alone, make new friends, etc... i have passed through this before, bc im living in a country which is not my home country.
to be honest, im starting to have second thoughts. Things would be different if i could at least do things on my own, like going to study english, or windows shopping, or visiting places, etc. but i cant.
i dont do anything more else than crying the last 3 days. I feel depressed. I dont know what to do, In one hand i dont want to lose him, but in the other hand, i wish things were different, that i could go to a place where i can be independant, able to do my own things without asking him for help. I just see myself 5 months locked in a house doing nothing but sleeping or watching tv. I know this is temporary, but i cant be like that, bc i dont like to be lazy all the time.
Im sorry for this long post. I dont know if this is the right place to write it. i just needed to talk with someone and say what i feel. maybe some of u have passed through this when u arrived the USA and can give me some advice. maybe im just making a mountain out of a molehill
You sure you wanna marry this guy?
-
When your fiance arrived in USA, they will give her 90 days validity of her visa, you guys have to get married and file for adjustment of status within 90 days to avoid problem.
If she didn't get married within 90 days, she is no longer allowed to adjust status for green card and she will be undocumented without a chance to adjust anymore.
Not true. Will still be able to adjust.

What Im hearing is that you had a tourist non-immigrant visa and you have overstayed that...
How can you adjust status from a tourist visa to a PR?
You are illegally present so you have no status at this time.
So you have illegal presence. I think you will need a 601a waiver for that.
You have to apply for an immigrant visa....
You have to do the I130 approved first, then you will get denied after NVC based upon you illegal presence, then you can file a waiver (which you will get if you do it right) ....luckily IF your only grounds of inadmissibility is the illegal presence, then you can file a 601a, so you can wait in the USA while the waiver is adjudicated. THEN when you waiver is approved you will need to return to your home country for an interview...if all goes well you will then get an immigrant visa and a green card.
And if your husband has no income you will need a co-sponsor of some sort to meet the income requirements...
You need a lawyer or you need to spend serious time educating yourself.
Hey, so she wouldn't need a 601...since she came here with a visa and was inspected at a port of entry. Married to a USC so illegal presence and unauthorized work will be forgiven. She may only have a problem with her tax situation.

Hello. I was out of school for 2 years when I got married. I filed adjustment of status with just help from this site. Never had a problem. Had my interview yesterday and adjustment of status approved on the spot without as much as a question about my F-1 visa or status.
Good luck.
P.S. Also in New York.

Long story short:
Overstayed visa, fell in love 3 years later, had a baby with him, now getting married & planning on adjusting status & applying for green card.
With all these forms, will I use my husband's laat name when applying or my original last name? If I use my husband's last name, would I have to apply for a name change or something?
Did you legally take your husband's last name when you got married? If yes, then that is your name now and you use it unless it asks for your maiden name somewhere.

Will they ask to see Affidavit of Support from sponsor and joint sponsor and your medical at the interview?
I understand if they want to see passports and birth certificates since they only have copies of those on file but with the other forms, I have copies while they have the originals.
So, from your experiences at the interview, will they ask to see every single thing that they asked for on the appointment letter?
Ok, thanks.

"Violating conditions of original visa" is not one of the reasons they deny AP entrance, so let's not spread that rumor around.
Let's delete that then.
-
What is this talk about possbibly not being readmitted with an AP? My wife has an EAD/AP combo card (and a current Air Force Dependant ID card). I thought this was the entire reason behind the AP...to leave and reenter legally and with no problems? Under what circumstances would someone not be readmitted? It can't be as random and unpredictible as it sounds...
If you violated any conditions of the visa that you are adjusting status from, then there is a very good chance you will not be admitted. Also, when you received the AP card, the note attached does say re-entry isn't guaranteed.
For example, a guy I know, let's call him Jack, came here on a F-1 visa. Jack dtopped out of college for a year but still stayed here. If Jack left the States, he would be denied re-entry because he had violated thw conditions of his F-1 visa.

After I sent my RFE on May 6th. How long does it really take for NBC to review the evidence requested? Although I had an update that they mailed me the Card work permit. My I130 has not had an update since I submitted on March 25th. Until now. By sending the work permit card does it mean my Evidences were approved. Anyone? Any Idea?
Your I-130 status online won't change until after your green card has been approved. If your EAD is in the mail then that means thy have reviewed your RFE response and have restarted on your case.
I130 and I485 online status hasn't change for four months... (merged)
