All the photos I used on US visas were with a smile. I have not had any issues. As long as you do not smile like Mr, Bean, It is totally fine.

I had my interview three days ago. My status had been under administrative processing for three days, which really concerned me. This morning, it changed to "Issued".
I think as long as you are approved at the interview, you are fine. Some embassies in certain countries have longer processing time because of security check and the large numbers of visa applicants.
