  1. Even a US Citizen often travelling abroad they may refer for a secondary inspection,I saw this happening a few times. A friend of mine she is a US Citizen and they referred her for a secondary inspection several times. It's just for security purposes, nothing else.

You got your GC a few months ago and travelled abroad 4 times, probably they flagged your GC because you are in and out of the Country a lot .

I'm from canada, it's the neighboring country to the north, my birth city is 30 mins from the USA by car, one of my birth cities airports is in the USA so I went thru the border twice in 1 day to pick up friends. When I crossed the border, the officer told me that my GC was flagged and I will have to go through secondary inspection EVERYTIME I come back into the US unless I write to USCIS or make an infopass appointment. Let me know if you ever heard of something like that? And how do you think I should proceed?

  2. Hey Sandra, since I got my GC thru Vawa a few months ago I left the country 4 times and upon my return I have been sent to secondary inspection all 4 times. The officers only take a look at my documents for 2-5 minutes and then release me, but sometime I only get to see an officer after waiting for almost an hour depending on how many people are in front of me. I asked one of the officers why this is happening and he told me that my GC is flagged. Huh, flagged???

I have booked an infopass appointment to find out what the problem is, but I'd like to know what else I can I do to prevent this from happening again.

    Thanks

  3. Hello all I asked this question before but to many odd answers

I'm currently half way through the ROC process I recently applied for a new drivers license with my extension letter but here in cali it takes months for a new drivers license to come through the mail

Anyways I'm going to Florida for a family vacation in may for 2 weeks

Am I able to use my British passport without any scrutiny as none of my other id's will be valid at the time

Any help will be much appreciated

    Thanks

As long as your british passport is valid, you will have no problems using it to travel within the United States.

  4. Hi all,

I just got my appointment letter today and unfortunately I will be in DC on the day and wondering is it possible to do early walk in??? If not, what would happen if I reschedule?

    Thanks

I've done an early walk in for biometrics in Orlando before and had no problem, I was in and out within 20 mins. Just make sure you have your notice and passport with you. Only if they ask you why you came early, then explain.
  5. Can I translate it myself and notarize it or I have to have it translated by someone else?

Is it required special notary service or any regular notary service?

    Linh

Get it translated by anyone that speak both languages, a friend or a family member. It does not need to be a professional and does not need to be notarized.

The translator does not require any training or certification. According to USCIS,

    http://www.uscis.gov...0000ecd190aRCRD

the translator only includes the statement below.

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

    Signature_________________________________

  6. Hello guys how are u doing?

I have a vawa case butvits pending still..

I mailled them my RFE since oct 5th 2015 ....until now ,its still pending .

When i check my case online cant see nothing..

Make an infopass appointment, ask the immigration officer if/when USCIS received your rfe response and then ask the officer what is going on.

  7. Hello,

My Colombian parents are currently in the US as valid tourists for 6 months. They wish to visit Canada and want to apply for a Visa. Do they need to return to their home country to apply for a visa or can they apply directly from the USA? They aren't US residents, they are US Tourists right now under a B2 Status and have a valid I94 each.

    thanks,

They do not need to return to Colombia to apply for a Canadian tourist visa, they can apply from the USA. They need to contact the Canadian embassy in DC or one of the many Canadian consulates in the USA

  8. Hi -

I lost my permanent GC while traveling last November and filed an I-90 to replace it. Current processing times indicate an 8-month wait time and I have pending travel coming up in May.

I have a photocopy of my lost, unexpired GC.

    1) Can I receive a temporary I-551 stamp while my I-90 is being processed? I've done my biometrics but the I-90 application status is still 'under review'.

    2) I have an InfoPass appointment for the I-551 stamp coming up in 8 days. Do they usually give the stamp on the spot or how long should I expect it to take? I will be going to the Newark office.

If anyone has gone or can provide some guidance on this situation, that would be much appreciated!

You will get the temporary stamp at your infopass appointment, bring proof that you are traveling to make things even easier.

  9. Hi VJ community!

Also, I know I can be a visitor to the US for up to 6 months, but if the green card takes longer than 6 months to process, would I be "overstaying"? Or would I have the right to remain in the US until they process my application? Does an application for advance parole affect that in any way?

Once you apply for you green card, you are no longer a visitor, you are adjusting status, you can remain in the USA until your application is completed, you wouldn't be overstaying. Advance parole is the document you will need if you want to travel outside the USA. It will allow you to return to the USA and resume your status adjustment.

  10. They (d immigration officers at the houston local office)

However, i have applied to to ombudsman for assistance. Will they contact me now? Such a painful experience.

The ombudsman will take care of it for you but you will have to be patient, not much happens over night with USCIS. The ombudsman will send you an email and/or contact you as soon as possible. It might take a bit of time for your case to be assigned to an ombudsman analyst but once it is assigned, things will be moving. Hang in there !

  11. They told me that my i485 is in NBC since November as a vawa entry. They also advise me to file a new form because they believe from experience that my i485 is abandoned. Should i keep waiting or should i file new i485? Anyone with same experience pls help

When you say that "they" advised you to file a new I-485, who are "they" ?

My complicated file took 16 months to move from Vermont to my local office, yours should be moving soon. You can wait a bit more or if you want you can contact the USCIS ombudsman https://cisomb.dhs.gov/oca/form7001.aspx

and let them know about the situation, they were very helpful with my case.

  12. Thanks for quick response !

My application is based on Mental abuse/torture.

I talked to couple of attorneys. Its big difference in their fee. For ex one asking 4K other is asking 1K.

Any suggestions for good attorney? Recommendations...

How to choose right attorney for VAWA?

4K is a little high but it's not bad, 1k seems very low! To select a good attorney, you have research the attorney, check the attorneys track record, how long he/she has been an immigration lawyer, if he/she has a clean record with the bar association, and simply ask the attorney questions. What city are you in?

  13. We called USCIS the day we received our notice of appointment and asked whether it could be rescheduled because he had planned to be out of the country. The USCIS said yes and that we would receive a follow-up in the mail. The follow-up came while we were abroad and asking for documentation proving our absence. I mailed a letter to USCIS, explained our absence and included travel documentation......

Ok I understand your situation, if you sent the information requested by USCIS back in the right time frame, this shouldn't have happened. Is the denial latter dated after your infopass appointment?

Can you please provide an accurate timeline of your filling and of the documents you received from USCIS ?

  14. I sent both of our boarding passes to show that we have been out of the count y together. Yes, he is a USC. I am confused as well.

No, I did not receive a confirmation of receipt of my letter.

If I understand well, you had an i-130 interview scheduled in January but you guys missed it because you were on a trip out of town? Correct? I am a little confused
  15. Just 2 days after my Vawa based I-485 interview, I received an email confirming the approval of my I-485. I am now waiting for the official welcome letter aswell as production and shipment of my Permanent Resident Card.

Praise the lord! Thank you God!
