Well, is of course your choice to have your mother there with you.
By my experience past april, the interview was smooth and quick, the consular officer was very nice and polite. And there is also someone there to help you with the papers, she or he checks everything you got before the actual interview.
The only thing that people do not comment much, is that the interview is with opened doors, you stand at a window, so what you and the consular officer says, everybody in the waiting room can hear. I wish that they had done that differently, but the fact that the officer was nice, compensated that to me.
