  1. My Husband is getting ready to renew his Canadian passport as well.

We are planning on driving to Windsor to the Service Canada office, they have a place to get passport photos in the same building, can't find one here near us in the US to do the photos right.

From everything I have researched, you indeed only need two references (anyone not related to you, known you for 2 years)

The only info needed on the back of your photos is the name and address of the professional photographer and the date the photos were taken, no signatures required.

Also, from my understanding of what the application says, even if you are applying IN Canada, but are having your passport sent to you in the USA, you have to pay the higher fee $190 5 year, $260 10 year, not real clear if you can have the passport mailed to a relative in Canada and pay the cheaper fees.

  2. tip that I think I got from someone who posted on this forum :D

AS SOON AS POSSIBLE when you arrive in the states on your K1 visa , get your name added to every utility bill, lease, car title, bank account, that you can THEN get a box and save EVERY piece of mail, statement, bill, whatever.... that has BOTH of your names on it, make sure it's a good size box, you can weed out the unnecessary later.. but when it comes time for AOS you'll have all that you need, but don't stop at AOS, KEEP this box and keep adding to it and co-mingling your lives and add the proof to the box and when ROC time comes it will be so much easier to put your evidence together.

Also agree that reading the guides and re-reading the guides and double checking the guides makes this whole process so much easier!!! ;)

  3. "Absence makes the heart grow fonder...."

During this process I found that statement to be both very true and very false at different times.

Sometimes I needed to hear the sound of his voice several times a day just to get through, needed so much reassurance.

Sometimes feeling like we had to speak everyday and ending up talking about nothing things like the weather, just seemed too forced. So we talked about it and decided that we would talk when we really had something to say... but with the understanding that if either one of us needed just to hear the other even breathe on the other end of the phone and talk about nothing just to feel better, that was okay too.

We wrote more letters to each other, snail mail, and I must say every letter we wrote during that time is a cherished thing now. I found that when I had to stop and write and think and didn't have immediate response from him verbally or physically, I looked deeper at my love, saw him more clearly, found that it fueled what I had in my heart for him so much more than many conversations. In many ways that kind of distance made us stronger. Personally I found it took more love and commitment to communicate this way.

Over the past three years that he's been here and we've been married, we've found that when the routine of life takes over and we get to see each other constantly, that sometimes we start to take each other for granted , that burning crazy passion wanes, and we start to feel like every other couple that didn't have to go through what we did just to be together and seem to forget how fortunate each moment together is..... and that seriously SUCKS! Easy can be very hard on a relationship sometimes.

Fortunately, because we didn't take the easy way with constant communication when we were apart, we both know how to reignite this amazing passion and love we have for each other..... stop and take a moment, write each other a letter, a note, or go pick out a card, effort...making that effort is the cure!

I feel fortunate now that my love was someone that lived far away, that we had to go through what we did be together, I don't know or see many couples that treat each other or seem to love each other the way or as much as my husband and I do, even after 7 years of being with each other, 3 of them married. (L)

So... all of this long winded post to say.... don't worry, it's not necessarily a bad sign that he wants to communicate less, could just mean he loves you so much he wants to keep each communication something to cherish. IMHO

Good luck to you both on your journey!!

  4. I'm pretty sure the Alien Registration number is shown on the K-1 visa that is put into your fiancé's passport.

However, looking back through the guides here on filing for AOS, you will need a copy of the NOA2 showing that the K-1 was approved.

    good luck!

edit to add: guess I missed the part about others having successfully filed without that NOA2, dunno about that myself, but I guess it's worth a try to avoid paying $400 for a copy of it. Guess you could get one later if it's a problem and you get sent an RFE.

  5. How to get a notification after a decision

have you gone to the uscis website and created an account?

    if not

    go to www.uscis.gov

on the main page go into the tab that says TOOLS, and click on CHECK YOUR CASE STATUS ONLINE

on that page go to SIGN UP FOR CASE UPDATES

it makes you create an account with a user name and password, ( it will show you dates when your file was updated, or reviewed)

make sure you click on how you want notified, email, text should ask for your cell number if you want a text message

and that should do it! good luck!

  6. yay Larry86!! :dancing: so awesome they processed your RFE so fast!!

    Congrats to rock81 too!

Got the approval letter in the mail yesterday!! Funny how on the website it never said approved, just that card production had been ordered, but I guess that makes it obviously approved. Anyhooo.. also got a tracking number and it looks like my husbands card will be coming TODAY!!

Gonna be saying lots of prayers for everyone else still waiting, especially the VSC people who've had to be so very patient!!

Good luck guys and thanks for making me not feel alone in this journey!! (L):)

  7. This wait is terrible! Still Initial Review.

Honestly it has been so long since I sent the original application and I am becoming more and more uneasy about what I sent. I feel like I could have done a lot better.

Will they ever deny an I751 without first sending out an RFE? I would not be surprised (or mad) if we received an RFE at this point, looking at what everyone else sent compared to what we did. And that's fine, we have other evidence we can send at this point. But I have this irrational feeling that they will outright deny without sending an RFE first.

Unless you weren't eligible to file for ROC yet, or have done something that would make you ineligible, I wouldn't imagine that would deny you without and RFE.

If you could please fill in your timeline it will help people give you more accurate answers here. :)

  8. So sorry to hear Zedbraguy really sucks :(

(it does say right in the instructions to submit evidence from the date of marriage to the present, and does give an idea of what kind of stuff that qualifies  )

Maybe even consider sworn affidavits to include with the moutain of other stuff you are planning on sending! Again, really sorry to hear, but it sounds like you are gonna be just fine! Good luck to you!

  9. At 10:15 last night my husband got a text message from USCIS to say the status on his case had been updated!! woo!! So went to the web site and read this:

On April 8, 2014, we ordered production of your new card.

Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you.

If we need something from you we will contact you.

If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283

    YAYYYYY!!

    Congrats to Oscar12!

Zedbraguy and Viggy hope this means you will get your approvals soon too!!!

    Hoping VSC gets rolling too!!

Could someone please update me in the list?? Thank you!!

  10. S&P:

I think you may be asking me what I submitted. Don't worry, I too was stressed and felt like I did not submit enough evidence, but I think, since this processes is very stressful and one cannot just call USCIS and speak to them (Help Desk is useless) one just only speculates and prays for the best.

Here is what I sent them and I just followed what was in the I-751 Booklet.

    • I-751 Application for both wife and step-daughter
    • Check in the amount of $675 ($505 + $160)
    • Copies of Green Cards
    • Copies of passports (wife and stepdaughter)
    • Copies of 2012 and 2011 Tax returns
    • Copies of joint finances (letters from banks and credit cards showing my wife on the accounts/ complete quarterly bank statements with transactions and deposits/ Letter from 401k company stating my wife as primary beneficiary/ copies of wife's paychecks)
    • Copies of joint health insurance (this included health invoices with my wife and stepdaughter)
    • Copies of joint memberships (zoo-health club- Costco)
    • Copies of household commonalities (copies of junk mail, invoices from Amazon, travel itineraries with the whole family)
    • Copies of Affidavits

    I hope this helps.

Thanks for your info Pocho, I sent a lot of the same things you did as well, but I was asking Ralyse because she's from Canada too and just got an RFE, so I wanted to compare with what she sent.
