  1. Sending in my paperwork we have been gathering for AOS has been, for several different reasons, delayed significantly. We were married in June of 2015. Am I correct to assume I can still file for Adjustment of Status the same way as if I had filed right after the wedding? Or is there another route that is necessary, or perhaps preferable, now that it is so long after the fact? I have almost all my ducks in a row now to be able to file in the near future and want to make sure I am going about it in the best way.

    Thanks!

  2. oh ok thanks. Normally you have to get an SSN yes, but I was a student at the time and since I was F-1 I was ineligible for an SSN and I had to get a letter from the social security office stating that I was ineligible for them to waive that part of the application. I suppose after I do get my SSN now I will have to somehow get that changed...hopefully that doesn't cause a problem now I know government likes to have everything just so...

  3. To give another answer to your question about how much a lawyer costs, I was quoted about 5000 plus filing fees by a lawyer in Chicago. After I stopped choking and got up off the floor I decided I was going to do it myself, not matter how complicated it was. I was pleasantly surprised by how relatively simple the process really is, if you take the time to read and study out the answers to any questions you might have. This website and forum was certainly a huge help. I was just approved a couple weeks ago and anxiously awaiting my POE! I can't stress enough though, as pretty much everyone else has as well, to just take your time, read the information and ASK QUESTIONS! Looking back on the application process now I can see I was way more stressed out then was necessary.

  4. Nice!! its such a long and sometimes frustrating process but the end result is so rewarding! Such a great feeling to finally get to the end! Now I am taking a break from thinking about paperwork for awhile until after the wedding :)

  5. Well decided to go ahead and try to take it with me, and it was not a problem at all...the screening officers acted like they expected me to have one and had no issue whatsoever with holding on to it for me. Thanks for everyone's help! oh and Dualie, about the payphones...I guess I was nervous too, I never even checked to see if they were actually there lol

  6. Had my interview in Montreal today and everything went smoothly! Heart those wonderful words "I am approving your visa application"!! So excited and at the same time so relieved after so many months of stressing over all the little details! Will write a review after the daze of excitement clears and I can remember more of the details of my visit to the consulate  So thankful for everyone,s help on VJ though, literally could not have done it without all your help!

  7. Question for someone who recently had their interview in Montreal: I have read that the payphones there do not work? is there anyone who can tell me for sure either way? I know some people have been able to leave their phones at the counter or something, but since the consulate website specifically says not to bring phones because the have no where to put them, I'm not sure I want to risk it....

  8. Had my interview yesterday at Medisys in Montreal. I arrived a few minutes late as a result of not being able to find anywhere to park (not really used to the big city and I don't read french so any signs were useless to me :help: ...turns out there is a parking garage right beside the building that medisys is in, 16$ for the time I was in there plus eating at the A&W a few blocks away  ) Not a problem though, waited about fifteen minutes in line then was called up to the reception desk. Gave them my interview appointment letter (which is now only emailed...threw them off at first but they figured it out  ) passport which they made a copy of, and my immunization records as well as the requisite 5 pictures. Was handed a clipboard with forms to fill out both for their own records and for the consulate. Filled those out and handed them back in, waited maybe 20 minutes then was called back by an older doctor with gray hair and glasses. Made some small talk with him for a few minutes, then literally a three minute check - normal stuff - ears and throat, lungs, heart, abdomen. in and out of his office in about 5 minutes. Back to the waiting area, waited about ten minutes then was called back for my xrays...I was called back the same time as another lady so they could get two ready for xrays at once I guess, and the tech, looking at both of us, rattled off all his instructions in French! I must have had a totally blank and confused look on my face because when he finished he started to turn then looked at me and smiled and said "English?" I nodded my head and said "Please" laughing to myself how they assume everyone can understand French lol...About ten minutes for the xrays then was sent back to the waiting room to wait for the final stage of the medical - bloodwork, eye test, etc. Waited again about ten minutes then was called back to another room. Did the eye test, standard "stand behind the yellow line hold this spoon over your eye read me the smallest line you can read...other eye...good". Pretty easy. Then asked me a few questions, drew one vial of blood (ugh I hate needles!!) and then informed me I had to get the flu shot...tried to talk her out of it explaining I thought I just missed the window where the flu shot was required but there was no convincing her of that!! Oh well, not too big a deal, only an extra 18$...and an extra needle..(did I mention I hate needles!?!?) She explained to me that I had to wait 20 min after the vaccine before leaving then it was off the waiting room, pay, and leave about 335$ poorer...after 20 min of course ;) . Overall, very straight forward, nothing complicated. Most of your time is spent waiting...only had maybe 20 minutes total time actually doing anything but waiting! Staff was very helpful and friendly, now just to go pick up my results Friday morning and off to my interview!!

  9. Ok so I'm sure this was asked before but I was having difficulty locating a thread dealing with it...with all the multiples of passport photos being required for the Medical and the Interview in Montreal, is it acceptable to get a copy of your photos done at a copy center on photo paper, or do I have to keep going back to WalMart and getting multiple photos done there? Just curious what everyone else did.

  10. I actually called them the other day and was informed that I should have received an email confirming the interview. When I told them I didn't think I had gotten it, he confirmed my email address and resent it. I received it while on the phone still so I took a quick look and informed him that I had received it, and also that I had never seen anything like that in my inbox before. He acted like it was no big deal, that it must have not gone through the first time. Thanks to VJ I knew I was missing something...if it hadn't been for what I had read on here, I would never have known I was missing the letter...Surprised he just brushed it off as he did

, as obviously it was important that I receive that email!

  11. Just booked my medical and was told to bring the letter confirming my appointment at the consulate, which I had heard of before. I'm wondering when and how I get this letter though. I thought it would be emailed but I have not received any sort of email from the consulate since they told me to go ahead and book the interview. Curious if they are sending it through regular mail? Anyone else have any recent experience with this and what to expect?

  12. On another note could anyone tell me if I should be expecting a confirmation email after registering for my interview?? It seems like I have heard of other people referring to an interview confirmation letter that is needed for the medical but I am yet to receive one?
