  1. I just read your post and had to quick wish you the best of luck!!

I was in much of the same scenario as you. I met my wife online and we quickly built a relationship. We both were confident that we were right for each other and we got engaged before we physically met. On my first visit to see her, we got married. Fast forward 19 months and 7 total trips to Europe. Her visa has been done since October and we were just waiting for her to finish school. In just one week, we will finally be together. It is such an exciting time. There may be times where it is really difficult being apart. Hang in there and always remember that you have a whole life to look forward to being together. :)

  2. Thank you so much for your help. I understand much more of what I need to do. I will definitely wait till she is here and has her SSN before I amend 2014's return and then I will take care of 2015's return.

I have thought about having someone do our taxes for us, but I have no confidence in them here. I have asked a little about this at a few places and they all looked at me with blank looks. They really have no idea when it comes to foreign spouse or foreign income. It is surprising since there are many Mexicans and Hmong in my area that I am sure have had similar situations.

  3. My wife got her CR-1 visa back in October. Due to school, she is first entering the USA on February 27th. We've been married since June of 2014. When I did the taxes for 2014, I just filed "married filing separately" and plan on amending the return when she gets here and gets a SS#. I might do the same with the 2015 return and just amend both taxes after we get her SS#.

My question is this: During this whole time, she has been a full time student in Germany. She did work a part time job for about half of 2014, but has just been doing practical since (she's going to school for nursing). She does make some money from the practical, but it is like 600 to 800 euros a month. I can guarantee she probably made less than 15,000 euros a year for the last two years. Does she need to get some document showing that income? Since her income is so low, should we bother to even claim it? Is there any specific document Germany has for this? Something like our W-2 form?

Thank you for your help in all this.

  4. I've tried looking this up, but I keep getting conflicted results.

Here is the current status: My wife is a Romanian citizen living in Germany. She has been approved for her CR-1 visa. She will be entering the country on February 27th (Yay!!!). As of RIGHT NOW, everything is in her maiden name. We would like to change everything to her official name as soon and as painlessly as possible. We have everything setup to change her name on her Romanian passport and she will start that process just before she comes to the U.S. We would like to start her life in America with her married name if at all possible.

Is it possible to still change the name that will be on the green card? We do see that they list her married name as an alias on the visa. Can they make a change at the Point of Entry?

If she cannot change the from the married name on the green card, can we have her married name on her social security and driver's licence and wait till we remove conditions in 2 years? We are hoping we wouldn't have to spend $450 and wait 6 months for an I-90 when she will renew in 2 years anyway.

Please don't comment about what we should have done on our previous paperwork. We can't change nothing now, we just want to know how to move forward. We did what we did since we didn't want any delays and we wanted everything to be as smooth as possible.

  5. Last week, our CR1 visa was approved. We are both excited that our immigration journey is almost over. We were hoping to change the name before the interview, but that didn't happen. My wife can't come to the US till January when she finishes her schooling. We should have her name changed by then. What options do we have? Can we change the name on any documents before entry into the USA? Or should we take care of this after she gets here? If she waits till she comes here, will she enter with both her old passport with the maiden name and the new passport with my name? If anyone is unsure, should I call the visa center to ask or immigration? Thanks in advance for all your help.

  6. Yes, doesn't matter how long one has been living in another country for. A PCC is required if you lived in another country and you were at least 16 years of age. View the chart here: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/Supporting_documents.html(click on Police Certificates).

Instructions on how to get a Romanian PCC can be found here: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country/RO.html#policerecord-4If she still has a relative in Romania, then it looks like there's a way for them to get it and there's an option for an express service to receive the PCC back in 3-5 working days.

Thank for the reply. I am understanding it now as I read it. Times like this are so frustrating. We've been trying so hard not to make mistakes. Hopefully we can get this done ASAP!!

  7. Big setback today. We received a checklist. I am on the phone on hold waiting to talk to them now. The checklists asks for a police certificate from Romania. From what I read in the instructions, since she has been living in Germany for the last 8 years, we sent a police certificate from Germany. Were we supposed to send a police certificate from both countries?? If we do need to get a Romanian police certificate, it will take about 30 days for the consulate to process that, then 45 days for the NVC to review that one paper. All in all, we may have to wait 3 more months to be together for a piece of paper that has nothing on it since she has no police record :(.

  8. I will send cashier check on Tuesady. Did anyone fill in DS-260 after paying IV fee by mail?

I was just about a send a check myself on Thursday of last week. I even paid for and printed a label from USPS. I was then talking to the wife and checked again on the NVC website. Lo and behold, I was able to make a payment online. At this point, it is still showing "In process", but it has only been 2 business days. I expect it to show paid either Tuesday or Wednesday.

Up until this last Thursday, the fee area for the IV application was all blank like in the previous post.

Hopefully it means their system is starting to get back online after these 2 weeks...or is it 3 now :clock:

  9. In our case, my wife will probably have a new passport by her interview since she plans on changing her name yet before the interview. I may be wrong, but I would think they will just scan the new passport when she goes to the interview. In your case, I would think that would also apply.

It would help us all if you filled in your timeline so we can better help you.

  10. It seems as if you'll have started and invested already in the process to have you to migrate to TT, therefore why invest more money in the US process. It seems as if money is also an issue that you'll are trying to deal with, better planning will make less waste.

If your disability income will continue if you leave the US, than maybe TT will be a better choice.

Again, nothing good is just given without hard work. The US policies for immigration have been in place for the last 30 some years, so it's only a surprise to those who don't research before leaping into it.

    good luck moving forwarded

If you polled most of the people on this forum, I would guess that many, if not most, knew very little about immigration procedures when they "fell in love". We don't know all of the OP's financial background or all the details of the personal life either. All I saw was someone conveying their opinion on what they think is an unfair system. I again believe that most of us would also agree there are multiple problems with the immigration system.

We should be working together to fix these problems. After all, this is our country, isn't it? :)

  11. My wife has expressed her own concerns and fear for the interview. It did not help that she was denied for a visitor visa. I would recommend reading the reviews for the embassy in your husband's country. You will find that many, if not most, have positive experiences there. I tell my wife three things: they are looking for fraud (which of course we are not), we have plenty of evidence supporting our marriage, and that I trust God will be with us the whole way through.

Good luck and I wish you both well!!
