Yes, it is perfectly normal. approximately after 1-3 months after your POE it will turn into " optimized" . Looking at previous posts, it is taking roughly 5-8 weeks. But you never know. Once it is optimized on ELIS, you could track it on USCIS case status using the receipt number ( starts with IOE). It will tell you when the green card mailed and the tracking number. But if you try to check it before it is optimized, it simply says " this case cannot be found".

If you have checked your box in your application for SSN, you should automatically receive SSN cards in the mail within 1-2 weeks of POE.

In reality, your endorsed I-551 visa label on your passport acts like a temporary green card for one year.

Still waiting for SS# and GC , however im not in a rush for them but sure would like the SS# so i can drive here in California .

Hi guys,

I came to California Monday just gone, I have a full UK driving license . I came in as a CR-1 . Today myself and my husband went to the local social security office to ask for a SSN and was told i have to wait 3 weeks from the date i arrived here , So please can you tell me what i can do about driving here, as it says i have to have a Californian License within 10 days.

Would really appreciate your help .

My passport has US visa in it and customs stamped it at the airport here in LAX.

What do i have to do next to gain a license, i asked at the SS office in regards to driving and she said i cant drive until i get a SSN , if thats the case then why does it state i have to have one within 10 days ??? very confused here

as you look at the pic of it ( bottom pic) then you want to be smack in the middle of those 2 offices . from the left count 6 along you be in middle of the two offices then . Dont go in the queues they form by them office doors as everyone will be asked form a queue by the bollards.

Getting the train down to London tomorrow for interview on Monday, quick question.

Where about at the embassy do people start to line up ?

there are two kind of offices in front of the railings, Make sure you go to the one that says visa appointments, there will be guys in the offices ask them if your unsure.

Around 7.15 am they bring two metal tall desks out if you want to call them that , so that means two queues, you will go to the one that is for interviews for immigration.

Stand in the middle of the two offices by the ballards. this is where they bring the metal desks out and that is where you have to queue.

Everyone else will be queuing by doors to enter the office but you must stand in middle of the offices , the man will tell you he told me where to stand so i did and i was first in there.

They will ask for your passport and interview letter at this point , THEN you will enter the office when they tell you to. there you will go through a scanner and baggage will also go through scanner. from there you just follow signs to enter the main building . where you will be given a number , follow the steps up and wait in the waiting room until your number is called .

that is your CC letter, you just wait for interview letter now,

Hi All,

I got an email from NVC stating that

" The NVC has received all documentation necessary to complete pre-processing of your case. As soon as an interview date has been scheduled, the applicant, petitioner and attorney will be notified"

I hope this means my case is completed.

Not sure how much time it takes to get an interview Date. I am hoping the interview will be either in March or April.

Our Medicals in UK can be done when we get our NVC number , so i went ahead and did my medical when i received it . Then i waited for Interview letter , my medical was all done before interview letter.

thanks justoleme...my medical will be mostly in February 2014 so I can fly before August 2014. My husband applied for his citizenship in the last week of December 2013. I am planning to fly by August 2014. What if he becomes citizen before August 2014? Will we have to notify NVC before I fly?

You have 6 months from the date of your medical to fly.

My medical was in late August 2013 so i have until late February to fly.

Justoleme, i would like to know how long it takes for your passport to arrive back with you and if yo arranged for pickup at the depot or paid for the home delivery ? i have done the home delivery and would like to try book my flight ASAP.

When i attended my Interview the guy asked me if i had already paid a courier service and i said no. My ceac still says ISSUED and that my visa has been printed i still havn't heard yet on it being returned. checking my emails and tracking number for delivery many times through the day to see if anything there to say when its being returned.

I wouldn't worry too much i'm sure not everyone who has pre-paid had problems it was just the ones i had read did have.

Just dont book your flight until it is in your hand.

No i didn't do it with the online courier system, ive read on here where some ended up having a nightmare doing it that way . some even had to pay that twice to get their passports back so i did mine on the day at the embassy itself.

yes they asked when i wanted to fly - i told them asap as my step daughter was ill in california. yeah i will let you know when its been delivered back to me too.
