Hello - I have a naturalization interview coming up. I am a VAWA survivor.

    Questions:

    1) What to expect during the interview: process, how much time will it take, what do I need to sign etc

    2) Steps after the interview - will I be approved after or during interview? Any follow ups after?

Thank you - general insight will be appreciated alot.

Don’t be nervous. You need to look through your application, make sure you remember how you answered all the questions.

Unfortunately, we did invest a fair amount of money in this trip with flights, visa costs, and accommodation. We made peace with rescheduling our interviews. In the long run it will not do us any harm. At this time staying in a hotel for a few nights is not the best option for us due to a couple of circumstances.

I totally understand and I wish you good luck :) .

Here's our latest update as from this morning...

We submitted our applications online on 07/09/2023.

We received a receipt notice on 07/09/2023.

We received notice that our biometrics appointment was scheduled on 07/14/2023.

Our biometrics appointment was on 08/02/2023.

This morning we received a notice that our Interviews are scheduled at the Philadelphia office. Unfortunately, they scheduled my wife and I 2 days apart on 24 & 26 October. This is not ideal because we have a 3 hour trip one way to get to Philly. On top of this the dates fall over an international trip we booked a few months ago and we can neither change nor get a refund for our family's tickets.

I called USCIS customer service this morning and they've cancelled our appointments and put us back into the scheduling line. The agent said we should expect our interviews to be scheduled in November or December.

It sucks that we have to do this but it's our only option right now.

If you didn’t have your non-refundable tickets, I’d stay at the hotel in Philadelphia and enjoy a little vacation. But I completely understand when you spend thousands of $ and can’t exchange tickets:( .
Good luck at your interview! Your case is moving quite quickly!!!

We submitted the form on 7/31 - this week got letter in mail for N400 interview on Oct 3rd.

They asked to bring originals of marriage/divorce decrees and my original naturalization certificate.

I assume they will not keep it?

Regardless, it’s pretty fast. 2 months since submission of the documents. :)

    Hello,

I am pretty sure they won’t be keeping your original documents, I would bring my original cert of naturalization and a color copy of it just in case.
Your case is moving so fast, congrats!

I just noticed that the myuscis website doesn't show the estimated completion time anymore. It used to display the number of months remaining right on the homepage, but not anymore. Is it just me? Nothing has changed in the case history: N400 received on 7/15, biometrics reused 7/15

What do you mean it doesn’t show? I just put in my FO and my form number, it did show me “8 months”. What is your field office?

hello, my husband is filing next week, I know this isn’t july. I am just wondering since he got his green card through our marriage. Will i be involved with the citizenship interview like I have for the K1 and geeen card?

From what I understood, you won’t need to be at the interview and you don’t need to file any forms. I am also marriage based green card holder, and I only filled out my own n-400 form, my husband didn’t fill out anything. But we live together and generally do everything together, so he will definitely be next to me during my interview (if they won’t allow him inside the building, he’ll be waiting in the car).

Applied online 7/31 and got notice the same day.

Got the message about biometrics reuse and that it will take approximately 7 months.

    What’s your field office?

Ok so my case is different.

I applied for citizenship 14 days after entering USA as a permanent resident

Entered USA on June 23rd just last month

    Received social security July 7th

US citizen husband received a job offer that’s hard to say no to and have to start work in august!

After an online search we found out I’m eligible for Expedited Naturalization and I applied immediately even though I haven’t even received my actual green card in the mail yet.

expedited citizenship is for the spouses of United States citizens employed by certain employers overseas, to expedite their applications for citizenship and naturalize without having to meet the residency requirements normally required to become a United States citizen.

My IR1 interview was on march 6th this year but I don’t remember biometrics taken.

ideally it’s better to wait to get biometrics done then fly out of the country but we couldn’t wait and already left USA since i don’t mind flying back and forth for biometrics and interview/oath appointments.

Yes, your case is different, but I hope you get your naturalization quickly!

    Hello to our new cohort!

We're submitting under the 3-yr rule tomorrow-- got the online application in order today, and going through the travel history is what seems to have taken the longest since that encompassed our pre-marriage/immigration life...

Portland OR field office for us when the time comes.

    Hi All,

Just checking on how the process is progressing for July filers:) I filed online on 7/7, only because my 10-year GC was dangerously close to its expiration date. Biometrics reuse notification was immediate. On 7/13 I got my interview scheduled for 8/24. This is moving kinda fast:)

Silly question, my GC is marriage based. I don't see it anywhere on the documentation required for the interview that my husband must be present for the interview. Is he required to attend? (we've been married for almost 19 years now...)

    Best to all!

I am not sure if your husband needs to be there. I think only people who bring their spouses there are people who married for less than 3 years

Just got an update today. I am scheduled for biometrics. Got the update exactly 1 week from the time I filed. The thing is, there’s not much information about the biometric schedule. No attachment in the document tab either.

Do you see it online in your account?
Maybe they’ll send the notice in the mail. If you check the case status with your receipt number, does it say anything?

You can try chatting with Emma and finding out there if they sent out the biometrics appointment notice

hi everyone! Planning on submitting my application this week. I'm over the 3 year rule but just under the 5 year rule (would be Nov 2023). Do you think my biometrics will be reused? I have a few trips planned over the summer and just want to avoid having to reschedule (either the trips or the appointment!). Thanks!

    Hello,

Would it be a better option to wait until

you are done with your travel, just to make sure you don’t miss anything?

Are you traveling internationally? I think I remember (when I was doing my green card paper work) someone just walking in to have their biometrics earlier than the date on their notice, but I am not sure if it’s still ok to do it now for citizenship.
On this forum, I saw here that some people had their biometrics from 10 year ago reused so may be yours will be reused too
