My former attorney said biometrics are good for 6 months. My wife had to do it again after 10 months.

I remember reading somewhere that biometrics are good for 16 months, i.e. that if your fingerprints remain in the database and can be used for a name check for 16 months. I may be completely misremembering or making this up, of course. Does anyone have any info on this? I last had my biometrics taken for Removal of Conditions in Feb. 08, and I am wondering if there is a chance I may not need to be fingerprinted again for my Naturalization application.

I would bring it to the interview and provide it if it comes up. Trying to send in any supplemental stuff without an RFE wont get it matched up to the application.

Hi all!

I sent in my naturalization application three weeks ago. Today, while going through my wallet, I found a membership card to a political organization that I had completely forgotten I had joined. Needless to say, I did not include that info in my application, in the section that asks about affiliation with any group, organization, etc. I assume this is something I can clear up at the interview? Or should I send them a letter with the information and explain that it had completely slipped my mind when I filled the application?

My case was touched on the day I had my biometrics done (mid-February) and then again when I was approved (mid-August). No other touches.

I wasn't asked any questions. Just handed the officer the passport, GC and NOA, he checked a few things on the computer, and handed everything back to me. Not a word was exchanged (other than the obligatory greetings).

I'm a girl and I have personally found that condoms always cause a bit of irritation. I LOVE the pill (I know I'm not technically from the FSU, but still, Eastern Block; and yeah, none of my female friends back home use it).

Approved today, almost 8 months after filing.

Nevermind, I answered my own question.

While I was also unfamiliar with the negative consequences of arousal without release for women, I can share some other beliefs commonly held in Romania:

- walking out of the house with your hair slightly damp causes meningitis;

- not just sitting, but also walking barefoot on the floor of your house damages the female reproductive tract (it causes you to "catch a cold in your uterus");

- not wearing a hat or headscarf in windy weather causes ear infections;

- drafts are, as anyone will tell you, the cause of numerous ailments ranging from colds to sore muscles;

- it is unhealthy to shampoo more than once a week;

- birth control pills are not so good because they contain male hormones and cause body hair to grow in abundance (this from my DOCTOR!).

This is a widely discussed topic. If you do a search on VJ, you'll find lots of threads dealing with this. In a nutshell, you should be absolutely fine traveling with the expired GC and NOA. While *some* people have been harassed, I haven't read any first-hand account of people being denied boarding an airplane or being denied entry (I've only read of people who had heard of someone experiencing this, etc...). To be extra safe, your husband can always make an Infopass and get the I-551 stamp -- it does seem to be more widely recognized by foreign officials. Could you post a link to the news article about handing in your GC when you get the stamp? I am curious about that, since I was able to get the stamp and hold on to my expired GC. Anyway, even if you do have to give up the card, the stamp serves as sufficient proof of status.

Once again, the odds are overwhelmingly in favor of your having no problem when you travel. In my experience, I showed the expired GC and NOA upon reaching JFK and was processed in approximately two minutes, not a single question asked.

Best to make an Infopass and ask an immigration officer what your options are.

As an aside, while I understand not wanting to be separated for a long time, would it be possible for you (or both of you) to return to the US periodically during the two-year stretch? For instance, you could return a month or two before your GC expires, using your re-entry permit, then file for removal of conditions, then leave again with your NOA (and another re-entry permit if necessary). Alternately, since your wife will be living in Egypt for a long time, you guys may be eligible to do DCF at the embassy.

But do ask an immigration officer!

1) Your best bet is probably USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation (about $4). If you have a large package, put it in a Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope. With Delivery Confirmation, you'll get a tracking number so you can verify when the package was received.

2) Keep the card. The expired GC + NOA combo is your proof of status while your application is pending. Once you receive your 10-year card, I suppose you can keep the 2-year one as a memento.

3) If you return to the US before your GC expires, you are, of course, free to travel without a NOA. Once your GC expires, you'll need your NOA (or I-551 stamp, if you do not receive your NOA in time) for travel.

4) Dunno about VSC .

I have traveled recently using my expired GC and NOA; had no problems whatsoever at POE, was not asked any questions, was not taken aside for further verification, processing took approximately two minutes.

An I-551 stamp proves you are a permanent resident. If you have your GC, you don't need the stamp.

If I'm not wrong, once you are placed in expedited removal, your visa is canceled. Maybe Casa's invitation to reapply is an indirect admission that there was no reason he should have been denied entry? Call me pessimistic, but I don't think they will actually come up with an explanation.

Well, it's a good sign it was transfered. At least they are processing at CSC. NSC stopped. You still have a wait in store, I imagine. But, at least it should be processed in the near future.

I think you should be fine traveling abroad. Most likely, your case is simply still pending; even if they send you a RFE or an interview notice, you will have some time to respond/show up. Just make sure that someone is checking your mail while you're away. If you want to be extra super safe, make an Infopass before you leave to make sure that nothing is amiss. I traveled abroad a couple weeks ago with a pending I-751 (I know, my wait is nothing compared to yours!) and had no issues.

There are a few places where are you staying?

RR, do you know of some good markets? I live on Capitol Hill -- I know a few great Middle Eastern restaurants, but no markets. I love ME food (hubby is of Israeli descent)!
