  1. I just think it's really unfair to tell someone it's a waste of money to hire a Lawyer, yes the paperwork is pretty easy, gathering all the information that is required is done by you with or without a Lawyer....however in my case, the Lawyer was a safety net that kept me sane during the process. As I stated in my original comment on this thread, after looking at all the help that is available on this page I probably would have taken it on myself, however I didn't I employed a Lawyer and I researched many of them before going to the one I did in the end. It's a personal choice, luckily we were financially secure enough to be able to "waste" the money on a Lawyer and I have no regrets. Is it something everyone should do? No, that's not what I am saying at all, but I don't think the money spent on our Lawyer was a waste either, it gave my Husband and I peace of mind and that's all that mattered to us at the time.

  2. If you are a over thinker and tend to stress out over minor things then a Lawyer is probably the best way to go....why risk your future just because others opinion is that it is so simple to do that a monkey could fill out and file the paperwork. If you have the $$$ feel that you would be more comfortable to employ a Lawyer then go for it and do what is right for you.

  3. Hello

I am new to the forum but just wanted to give some advice to people applying for their K 1 visa,I am at the medical stage of my application but getting to this point has been a long battle due to my fiance and I doing the application ourselves to cut down on costs but that was a mistake, they make the process look kinda straight forward but it is not lots of red tape form filling and evidence to deal with and if you mess up even slightly they will deny the petition, this is what happened to us so we had to refile after waiting 6 months just to be told the petition wasn't accepted because of a missing signed document, when we refiled we decided that the risk of getting denied again wasn't worth it so we have paid for a very experienced immigration attorney who has handled everything from the start,we re filed in Jan this year and our petition got accepted within a month, big difference to the initial 6 month wait doing it ourselves and i already have my medical on Friday, the whole process up until this point has be so much easier and faster just by spending the money on an attorney so I would suggest anyone wanting to do it DIY don't,spend out the money if you are in the position to do so less stress

Thank you for advice to others Estelle.....although most people don't find much of a problem with filing some people do. My husband and I used a Lawyer only because we were both extremely nervous about the whole process and he was like our security blanket. It did pay off for us to use him, our process went very quickly to both our surprise and that of our friends that filed at the same time as us. When we went for our interview the Officer started looking through our paperwork and noticed our Lawyers name and made the remark "well there is no need for me to check all this he is always spot on with his paperwork" so sometimes yes it is a great advantage to have a well known and respected Lawyer handling things for you. I have to admit though, after actually seeing all the paperwork and now looking at this site, I think I could have handled it all myself but at the time it was nice having someone hold our hand too. Good luck with your Journey

  4. All of my paperwork was handled by the Texas Service Center and from the very beginning to the end (being approved for my GC) was only 4 months total. This was 2 years ago though so I am not sure about how many cases they have at this time. The Lady we had for our Interview was really lovely, very nice no evil looks and even laughed when she asked our wedding date and I said do you want me to answer this or him? I was the one going for the GC and when she said well he can answer because I am sure you know being the wife ...the truth was I was completely blank and had no idea because I was so nervous

  5. If you are feeling neglected than you need to open up that conversation again and tell him how he is making you feel. Just come out with the questions you want to know the answers too....open communication is essential in all relationships. If he can't answer you or just brushes off your feelings, then you need to think long and hard about how you are feeling not his feelings for you.

  6. Who knows what the other party has been through in this marriage?

^^^ Exactly, there are always 2 sides to a story and then the truth in the middle. I think wanting to take her back overseas and then destroying her GC while there, is pretty darn crappy. I understand you are probably talking out of emotion but being mature about it and doing things the right way is taking the high road and being mature. No matter how hurt you are, don't act on emotion because it only ends up hurting you more in the long run.

  7. Sounds to me like someone updated the wrong case # online, I checked with the attorney (a personal friend of mine) we used to do all my paperwork and he said, there is no possible way that a PRC would be issued to anybody that hasn't had the biometrics done. You need to call and have it sorted out, so that you can send in the info they are still waiting on to proceed with your case. Don't panic though, it's just a glitz and probably very easily sorted out....Good Luck!

  8. My status online didn't change until after I received the first Welcome Letter...Sometimes it seems they don't tend to update the system. I wouldn't worry, it took about 4 weeks after my interview before I received the first Welcome letter, it just depends on how many cases the particular officer has at the time of your interview. I wasn't even told at my interview that I had been approved, she told me she hadn't finished reviewing my file but she saw no immediate reason why I wouldn't be approved. I received a letter saying I had been approved in about 5 days (5 VERY tense days)...then as I said above it was about 4 weeks before I received my Welcome Letter and shortly following that my PR card arrived.
