Thanks both. There are no appointments at my local office til the 22nd. I called USCIS and the lady couldn't tell me what evidence I will need or whether my situation is eligible but she put the expedite request through and apparently "someone" will get back to me within the next 5 days with all the info.
-
Posting as it's a Sunday so I'm well aware I can't contact USCIS or do anything today, just wanted some opinions and experiences of others before I start the ball rolling tomorrow.
Last night my cousin back in the UK was killed suddenly in a car crash. I applied for my AOS, EAD and AP in June. What is the likelihood that USCIS will grant an expedite so that I can get back for the funeral, and what evidence would I need? I read that I would need a death certificate, I feel uncomfortable asking my aunty for a copy when she must be in unimaginable pain right now.

Wow! Can't believe there are so many interviews. Congrats all!
-
Yeah, you sent it one day after us and I had my biometrics on 07/31. But hey, who knows - maybe your case will still move faster than some of ours. Just hang in there!
I think it was just the 3 week delay in getting our NOA, coupled with the longer than average wait time for our biometrics appointment that's made me so antsy. I no longer feel like our package is in a dusty corner of a room somewhere! Still hoping for my EAD by the end of Oct

FINALLY got my biometrics appointment in the mail today. I feel like I'm so far behind everyone else in this thread that I might as well post in the July/August filers threads instead
-
Definitely, especially the part where I don't have to get up early in the morning, lol
Got my bio appointment in the mail today, hoping you have good news too

If she's worked at all this financial year, have her fill out and send a P85 form. She might be able to get some tax back that way.

Oh and I'm sure she already has this, but make sure she brings her degree transcript with her as well as the actual certificate. I know that in my line of work at least, that's what everyone is gonna be interested in looking at when I start applying for jobs.

Hi guys, just a quicker for any recent AOSers.
In my london interview they kept my original birth certificate.
I am now in the states and will be getting married in about 3 weeks.
I didn't think about AOS until today and realised when reading the forums that everyone takes their certificate into the package to send off...
But I don't have mine anymore, can I assume they will already have it?
Was it put inside the BWE?
Once you have ordered the new copy, make sure to make a photocopy of it. You only need to send a photocopy in your AOS package.

Do you need a license to teach in a private school? I have some friends teaching in private schools in VA, they never got their license though. I did try an online MMOPRG and now I max the level of my char, lol
I'm so glad that some of my friends are starting their business and ask me if I could help them with some of their IT projects, otherwise I probably would have been bored to death. I also started container gardening when I got back to NC, and I think I am very close to harvest hundreds of tomatoes, haha
If Boston is too hot, try the hot and humid NC summer, arrrr! Went to Portland ME a month ago, it was really pleasant there~~
Yep I could absolutely teach in private schools without getting my license first. However I want to work as a TA for a year so I can get my head around the US school system without having the responsibility of a teacher. It will also give me the time to study for my license and finish off my MA...no marking or lesson planning in the evenings and on the weekends
if the right opportunity came up though, who knows.
I'm sure once we're both working we'll miss all this free time
-
And my husband is travelling for work a lot, all of our friends are working. I get really bored during weekdays, not to mention my current mobility is little to nothing
Seriously, I have lots of IT big freelance projects that I need to do that I already work on for more than a year, but still, this type of life style right now does not help me find motivation. Seriously, I sleep in everyday.
I wonder how you cope with it.
Aw
I was actually a teacher in the UK, but I need to get licensed here to continue teaching. Plan is to get a classroom assistant job or something to get us on our feet with money and give me the time to study for the license test.
I'm doing the final year of my MA so I'm starting to pick away at next year's work as much as I can to stop my brain from turning to mush. I also have videogames and books to keep me company. I try to go out on walks but I find the heat quite oppressive some days (I'm from Wales, all I'm used to is rain!) so I spend more time sat indoors than I'd like. As I said though I'd geared myself up for this downtime when we started the K1 process over a year ago so I'm just trying to truck through it.

Then start from this point, do not think about any bad thoughts lol. Murphy really haunts peeps
Oh I'm very happy believe me
I just wanted to check whether the biometrics delay was delaying just my green card (which I can wait for) or my green card AND my EAD/AP (which would be nice to have sooner rather than later.)
I just like to know what to expect. I don't dwell
-
Sorry to hear that. Everything will be just OK, this is on temporary, for a very short period of time
Good luck!
Oh yeah, I'd geared myself up for being a little bored and going a little stir crazy whilst waiting to start work, I just hadn't anticipated things being so tight with money due to things going wrong...I'd forgotten all about Murphy's law
-
Oh I know it will get here, I was just worried as this is the second delay we've experienced in this process now and things have happened (like our apartment flooding) which means that the sooner I can get working, the sooner we can get back on our feet again.Hi, we are on the same boat, I remember reading your post on waiting so long for your NOA1, same here.
No worries, it will get here
Hey Harpa, I think the biometrics does matter because I heard so many people told me that the picture they used on the EAD card was actually the picture taken during the biometrics!!!!
So I guess having a huge delay on biometrics does mean that it may delay the EAD production since they need that picture or what not
THanks to everyone else for the input too
-
wow, lots of EAD/AP approvals! Congrats guys and girls
-
Excellent, thank you!

So after a 3-week delay in acknowledging receipt of our AOS package, I am still currently waiting for a biometrics appointment. From looking at timelines etc it seems that the average wait time for an appointment is ~1 week from the NOA, we're going on 2 weeks now and still nothing. I really do need to start working asap so I'm really disappointed by all these delays. I was just wondering if anyone knows whether the biometrics appointment is actually linked to the EAD/AP in any way, or whether the biometrics are just for the AOS? What I'm asking is- will the delay in being given a biometrics appointment also delay my EAD/AP approval?
-
Still waiting on our biometrics letter
thought we would have received it by now as it's been over a week since NOA. Maybe the Boston office is just very busy...

Thanks so much for the help really appreciate it.... I have some questions on the I-485 form....
1. Where do I get his I-94 number?
2. USCIS status? and Date it expires?
enter his details and then print out the page that comes up as you'll need a hard copy for SSN etc. The I-94 number will also be on that page for you to use on the I-485 form.
2. I put "K-1 Visa Holder" in status and for the date I entered the date on the stamp I was given at POE.
-
In your signature, it says you sent in AOS June 14. Why did it take more than a month for you to get the NOA1s?
My signature says AOS was sent in on 27th June, 2014. I have no idea why it took from then until July 18th for our NOAs to arrive. It was a frustrating wait though.
-
They are not accumulating because once you file for AOS you are in a new period of authorized stay. However, someone whose I-94 has expired and has not filed for AOS yet is in fact out of status and accruing overstay/unlawful presence. There is no deadline to file for AOS if you married within those 90 days, but being married by itself provides no legal status.
Sorry, I was responding to the OP's situation specifically, as they'd applied for AOS so don't need to worry about overstay. I didn't mean to suggest that simply getting married provides immunity from overstay.
-
Filed last month, no check cashed and no NOA1 either through mail or electronic. The question I have is... since it was received by USCIS before the 90 day K-1 Visa expired is overstay accumulating? I have a Fedex proof of delivery that shows it was filed before the 90 days ran out. Seems a bit unfair if that's the case.
The 90 days thing is a deadline for you to get married in, not for the filing of the AOS. You're not accumulating any overstay
-
So 10 days post entry, the bureaucratic slogging starts again...lol never a dull moment in the world of legal immigration
rhirhi: Cambridge City Hall ? I've done Boston City Hall before and that was a dud. So Cambridge it is, conveniently located near the Harvard Ale House. I just need to find a parking place for my truck near 'Haaarvard yaaard', or take the Harley
Yep, it looks a lot nicer than Boston City Hall too

rhirhi Crossing the street in Boston (or Massachusetts in general) is just a confusing thing to do. It's not you. Those of us who grew up around here think that crosswalks are for old ladies and moms pushing strollers. A true Bostonian runs out into traffic and knows that it's the drivers' responsibility to figure it all out
I'm not saying that's right, or safe, or smart, I'm just saying that is how I grew up, and I didn't know there was anything different until I lived on the west coast and was met with scowling faces and jaywalking tickets. Welcome to the Commonwealth!
Hahaha! That actually makes me feel much better
Taking medication with you to the US

I stocked up on a variety of my medication in quantities varying from a few months to a year's worth. I kept it all in the paper pharmacy bags with my name and details on and just put them in my suitcases. No questions were asked.
