    Congratulations!  So did you apply for your passport already?  I took my oath on July 19th.  My oath letter said I have an opportunity to apply passport at the ceremony, so I brought passport application already filled out and a passport photo with me, but there weren't anyone available to take at the ceremony.   I could go to the main post office near USCIS (my ceremony was in one of the rooms in the field office), but I knew they require an appointment.  So I called the county court house soon after the ceremony, and went there to apply as they didn't require appointment.  I was the only one there applying for passport, and I was in and out under 20 minutes.  I guess it's a perk of living in a smaller city.  I applied for both book and card expedited though I don't really have a plan for traveling overseas soon, but can't wait to receive them and get my certificate back!

    Yes! I went immediately after the ceremony--I also had filled my form and had my pictures ready! They do request an appointment indeed just like peachtree said above, which surprised me because just a few months ago my husband renew his passport and they didn't have this system. However, I also live in a small town and they were super gracious and let me do it without the appointment. I just had to wait for 5 min for the person who helped me to be done with another client and then helped me. I expedited because I have a trip to Europe on Sep 1 and now that I don't have a green card to come back into the country I want to make sure that I run this errand with enough time. 

     

    The ceremony took place in Knoxville's Federal Courthouse and it was small (about 30 people) and beautiful. 

     

    I'm happy that this journey is over though!

    Hi! Sorry, I just now saw this. I live in Tennessee so I had to file in the Dallas office. I file at the very end of July 2016, and I'll be taking oath on Tuesday July 18. So basically it pretty much took me a whole year.

    Just since March 24? It hasn't even been a month. If you read around here, some people wait months for their cases to be resolved. Take a chill pill and calm down. You're in this for the LONG run. After this you still have to get married, apply for your adjustment of status, settle in the US, renew your green card and finally apply for citizenship. IT'S A LONG LONG LONG JOURNEY. And a very frustrating one. If you're losing your s* in less than one month on step 1, you're going to need a shrink by the time this is over. 

     

    Don't attack the only community you have to share this with.

    I'm married. Can I act as a sponsor for someone on my own?

    Here's the story:

     

    My best friend from college got a scholarship to pursue a doctorate at Penn State U. To get the visa, though, he needs a sponsor. I'm hoping to help him and I'm preparing to file the I-134 for him. 

     

    I'm married and have a kid, and my household income is of about 100k a year. I contribute to it with approximately 55k, the rest comes from my husband. We have no debt other than our mortgage and I we have investments for about $75k.

     

    My question is: Can I file the I-134 on my own, without my husband as co-sponsor?

    Memphis TN Field Office

    Is there anyone here from the Memphis TN Fiel office? I've been stuck in line for an interview for over a month now. Can anyone share their timeline?

    I don't know what your timeline is but I applied in July, did my bio in August, and just in late November they came back to me with another request for bio. So right now I don't even know where my case stands anymore. I haven't even been notify that I'm line for an interview. Seems like it's taking a long time. Good luck!

    Hi everyone here! i attended my second bio appointment on December 6, had Deja vu when i was given the brochure for the test.....

    Anyway, i assume that the waiting time has started for me from the beginning, as if it was my "first" bio-metrical appointment ?

    Who had the same experience?

    That news from the House Judiciary are devastating for us :(

    I called to the 800 number and of course, they were useless. I'm planning on going to the second biometrics appointment on Dec 13, as scheduled. One thing though, now that you mention it: I asked if this would put me back on step zero for the waiting line to interview, and they said no, because cases are attended in the same order they arrive. So I'm really hoping that they will send me some better news soon after this second bio :(

    Having spouses family visit w/ K-1 visa

    Unfortunately, as a green card holder he cannot petition for almost any family members in Venezuela. If they want to come, they can only visit under a tourist visa and they have to make the case on their own in Caracas. The only cases available to him as a green card holder are:

    - Bringing a spouse (which obviously doesn't apply because he's married to you)

    - Unmarried children under 21

    - Unmarried son or daughter of any age

    If he wants to bring his parents or siblings, he will have to become a US citizen first to be able to petition for them. He can become a US citizen exactly 3 years after becoming a permanent resident. Only then he can file a case to bring them here to live. Parents are a relatively quick process, and it takes usually under a year from the moment he files until they get here as permanent residents. Siblings however can take up to 7 years. Sorry, this is not very encouraging. I'm also Venezuelan and what's happening there is truly devastating :(

    Hi everybody!

    I got an email today with the following text:

    "Your case has been accepted and routed to the USCIS National Benefits Center for processing. Within 7-10 days by standard mail you will receive your official Receipt Notice (Form I-797) with your Receipt Number XXXXXXXXX."

    Is this the NOA1? What does it mean it's been routed to the USCIS National Benefits Center? I don't think I've ever heard of it! :clock:

    Hi everybody! Getting ready to file on July 22 and I have everything almost ready.

    I have a question though. I'm filing early based on marriage, so three years is my term. On section 9, regarding the time outside the US, do I have to list 5 years or 3 years? If I list 5 years of trips, I won't meet the requirements as I wasn't living here in the states at the time but that would be against the actual rule for marriage, right?

    What should I do about that question? Thanks!

    I see at your timeline signature that you returned the packet because there was a mistake. What was it if you don't mind me asking? I received mine like a few months ago but didn't bother to look carefully and now after reading your post right several days before our trip to the states, I am even afraid to look there lol

    They had listed my husband's name as my father's name on the front page of the packet. DO NOT OPEN THE PACKET UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. If all the information in the front page is correct, you're good to go. If there's a mistake, you'll need to contact the consulate urgently.
