  2. I traveled from Canada with the extension letter in Dec 2016.  Crossed the border at the Detroit tunnel.  I was on a shuttle bus to the Detroit airport.  Standard procedure with the shuttle bus is that everyone has to go in to secondary.  They didn't have any issue with the letter, but they did take a thorough look through my suitcase.  We were the only ones there at the time, so the office wasn't busy.

  3. I'm also really sorry to hear that you are homesick. And the fact that you're not in your own place yet, and living with your mother-in-law would also make me feel uncomfortable.

The posts above are great advice. I've moved a lot andthe best attitude to have is to embrace discovering all that your new city has to offer. Think of it like a treasure hunt to uncover all the local treasures.

The library will likely be a great resource for local organizations, events, local job search resources, etc. It's the time of year for fall classes to start. Maybe a general interest course with the local board of education, dance classes, art classes etc. would be fun for meeting some new people.

Take this time to scout out all the new services you'll need in your new neighborhood - the nail spas, the hairdressers, the gym, coffee shops, restaurants for date night. "Hi, I just moved here, what type of services/food do you offer?" You can check out the ambiance, the prices, the friendliness of the staff, and ask a lot of questions without having to commit to anything. You'll probably even discover some places that will be new to your husband. Some of the best places may have local owners instead of national chains.

I like the suggestion of looking for things for your new home. That could mean exploring the local thrift shops, your (new) favorite stores, or the wonders of online shopping (no huge shipping fees to Canada, no exchange, no GST). That would certainly fill up my day :star:

Keep focused on the things you enjoy doing and finding the new places to do them. Create the life you want for yourself! You go girl!

  4. Holtsville, NY Aug 31/16

When submitting my I751 - I had added a request on the very top page to have my biometrics done in NY instead of FL (my home state) as I knew I would be in NY for a couple of months when the appointment was likely to be scheduled.

The appointment got scheduled for FL. I called the 1-800 # on the NOA and they told me to show up at the NY office on the applicable day and see if they could fit me in. The agent warned me they might have to schedule an appointment for another day if they were too busy.

Showed up at the Holtsville office at 8:50am. Was asked if I had an appointment, and I said yes at the Palm Beach office. They didn't bat an eye, and gave me the form to fill out. I was #19. They were serving #12 when I arrived. I was out of the office by 9:05.

Desk staff was very friendly. The agent taking the finger prints - not so much - but very fast.

Thanks for keeping this thread updated.

Any chance you can get this pinned?

I had found this thread before I went for my appointment.

However, took me quite a while to find it today to post the results of my visit.

  5. I485, I765 & I131 filed Dec 26, 2013. Lawyer's cover letter with the forms requested the interview be waived due to the recency of my consular interview.

Notice of Actions dated Jan 7, 2014.

    Biometrics appt. Jan 31, 2014

    EAD & AP issued March 12, 2014

per VJ / USCIS stats on Apr 9/14 estimated processing date for GC Jan 7th + 5.6 months = end of June

Apr 9/14 called general customer service tel # to inquire when / if I would receive notice of interview (as I was trying to arrange some out of state travel) - agent was not able to provide me with any information

received letter Apr 10/14 (the next day - coincidence??) "Notice of Potential Interview Waiver Case" Letter indicated I "may not require an interview" and to let me know "due to workload factors not related to your case, USCIS anticipates a delay in completing your case....approximately 6 months from the date of this letter" that now means no green card (and/or possible interview) until approx. October.

When looking at the stats for the various local processing centers, amazing to see ranges from 1 1/2 months to 1 year. There are only 3 AOS applications at my local office, but apparently they are very busy doing something else. BTW - when I went for my biometrics the notice said my spouse could not accompany me due to limited space. when I got there, about 40 chairs and only 2 other people there ;-)

  6. Once you get in the front door, past security, and then up the elevator; it's first come first served. You stand in line after getting off the elevator to get a number. I think my appt. was for 9.30 or 10:00 and got there at 7:30 am (there were others there before me, but they weren't VJ members and lined up on the wrong side of the door and were expecting to get out the wrong side of the elevator.) Guess it's a toss up whether you want to wait for the outside doors to open, and then wait for the elevator to open vs.arriving later and waiting in the waiting room.

I recall hearing about other fiances going to the interview. i went by myself. Double check the Mtl consulate website.

Check out the reviews of the consulate for the full details on where to stand, etc.

Congrats on getting your interview scheduled!

  7. I haven't had my AOS interview yet, but my immigration lawyer has suggested compiling any of the following (if applicable): bank stmts showing joint ownership; utility, etc bills showing joint responsibility for common household bills; health, life insur policies showing spouse as beneficiary or additional insured; leases or mortgages showing joint ownership; any other documents showing both of your names

  8. Hi, just wanted to add my experience to date. I am also now in Florida. POE July, Married Oct, AOS & EAD etc filed Dec. I also interpreted the Florida DMV site to indicate nothing can be done until my EAD has been approved. And my immigration lawyer confirmed that interpretation. In the meantime I have maintained my car insurance policy from Ontario.

  9. Good luck with your interview. We all get stressed out even though we really shouldn't.

    Photos are passport photos

You will also need your Loomis / DHL ID number. You will be asked for this before going through security - Even though this is not on checklist below

Wait to the left of the door on St Alexandre (not the door on Rene Levesque)

  10. I packed up my apartment and left my job at the end of August 2012. My stuff has been in a PODS container in their warehouse since that time.

PODS.com/canada. The container is 16 feet long and about 8 feet wide and 8 feet tall. (they have smaller containers, but only the 16' ones are taken across the boarder). They delivered it to my apartment building parking lot and I had movers take my furniture down the elevator and load the container. The container was picked up the next day and taken to one of their warehouses (mine is in Toronto near the airport). I visit it every once in a while to take out/ put in seasonal clothes, etc. in the meantime, I have been either visiting my fiancé or staying with my parents. (Our processing got delayed for about 6 months for various reasons). PODS will transport the container to Florida. I have to cross the boarder first and provide documentation to PODS to go with the shipment. The container will go into a warehouse in Florida until I arrive there in October. (Spending the rest of the summer in New York). The container will then be delivered to our driveway for as many days as we require to empty it. They have cross boarder specialists to provide you with the necessary paperwork and logistics. They've told me to allow 7 days for it to reach Florida from Toronto.

We had considered driving a UHaul. It's two 12 hour days of driving, and with a UHaul we figured it would take 3 days. The down-side seemed to be long days, uncomfortable seats, additional costs for meals and hotels, etc. The extra cost seemed worthwhile, especially since I also needed my items stored, and it avoided having to load up and unload a storage locker, load up the truck, etc.

  11. The original documents will be in your file when you get there. They keep the original of the police certificate. They will give you back the original of the birth certificate and they want to keep a photocopy of it. Did you make a photocopy that you can provide them with? I don't know if there is a copier machine in their back office. ( you'd have to think so )

  12. I know how you feel. Only got 3 hours of sleep the night before my interview. And then, only 3 hours again the night after...fell asleep exhausted....but then woke up thinking about everything to be done next....packing, moving, saying goodbyes, writing my marriage vows, etc., etc.

Deep breathing usually helps...but not when I'm this wound up. Chewing gum seems to help the butterflies in my stomach calm down a bit.

Best of luck. I'm sure everything will work out fine !

  13. Montreal seems to be the only consulate that requires the online form.

For the online version, my lawyer advised me to include the most recent visits as space permits (15 visits as I recall)

Similar to the above post, my prior visits also include time living there as a child on a green card.

My lawyer prepared a long list ( 3 pages ) of my best guesstimates which I signed and dated. It was attached as an addendum to DS-230.

  14. My package 3 was delivered to Montreal May 16, 2013. (K-1 Visa)

Received package 4 letter by email May 30th. 10:30 am

All day long the CSC website was showing "no appts available".

Called CSC near the end of the day, suddenly appts were available 42 days out.

My interview is scheduled for July 11, 2013.

Hope you hear from them soon
