BatonRouge Bill got a reaction from My&Truong in K1 VISA Interview - Is an Engagement Ceremony absolutely needed before the interview?
An engagement ring and reciept as well is nice evidence but proof of face to face meeting is required, dated photos of you two together, and plane ticket stubs, iteneraries etc.
They will not even ask about Dam Hoi until the interview and it is certainly not required. They will ask about when the Marriage will take place and even then if no date is set there is no show stopper. I think you should start the process as the process timeline can randomly vary by a lot. Some folks get the interview 7-8 months after initiating the process or can be much longer like mine at 15 months. So my advice is to start early as possible. It sucks to be apart.

BatonRouge Bill got a reaction from luckytxn in K1 approved, arrived in US and getting Married today, whats next?
Thats good advice, as this process has been fraught with delays,
filed Dec 2nd to Texas
shipped to vermont
vermont government building gets bedbugs and gets fumigated
transfered back to Texas in May 29th
Get RFE request July 3rd
Get NOA2 Sep. 11th
Shipped to NVC Sept 16th
Shipped to Consulate Sep 27th
Recieved by Consulate Oct. 23rd
Consulate installs new online scheduling system and waits for system instead of scheduling
Scheduled online Feb 25th,
Interview March 17th.
Yes August seems in line and is also a nice time for some mild white water rafting.

BatonRouge Bill reacted to rusberri in December Filers
Hello, I've been following this thread for a while now but never posted anything! I am a Dec filer too that got transferred to TSC, and we got our NOA2 on July 3, roughly 7 months after we filed. My fiance got in touch with the deputy director of TSC, Angela Barrows, who was very responsive (such a nice surprise!)
You could try emailing her at Angela.Barrows[at]dhs.gov or Angela.K.Barrow[at]uscis.dhs.gov
Obviously this shouldn't be used unless you're in a situation that seems to be going on for far longer than any expected timeframe, which I think is true for some of you! It's really rare that we get someone at USCIS who responds to us, so please don't abuse her e-mail address!
Be polite, however frustrated you may be.
All the best and hang in there! It'll all be worth it!

BatonRouge Bill reacted to callmekay in Home Preps to ease Cultural Differences
I was born in the states...and I informed my fiance that I don't know how to cook.
My domestic skills are on the slim side.
BUT as an alternative route, I offered to give him $10, the car keys, and point him to the nearest McDonalds.

BatonRouge Bill reacted to Hamad and Chau in Calling and Contact Guide for Vietnam K1s
Combined the posts of Dodi and Darnell and added some comments for this summary:
For the NVC:
http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3177.html
K1's are not tracked through the AVR, EVER. They are processed like an immigrant visa, but they are NOT immigrant visas, so they fall into a completely different class of their own. Therefore you need an operator. To get there:
1-603-334-0700
Press 2 for Non-Haiti-Related issue (Please note that this will probably change after some time)
Press 1 for English
Press 5 for an operator
When to call NVC->
NVC Human™ will know a bit on an I-129F -
--when it arrived to NVC
--when it left to US Embassy
-- the Embassy Casefile Number.
For DOS:
http://travel.state.gov/visa/about/how/how_1463.html
This is where you will be able to find out if your case was received at the Embassy/Consulate. They will not see your case in their system until the NVC has logged it in and applied a case number to it.
1-202-663-1225 (Effective Monday, September 9, 2013 use (202) 485-7600 )
Press 1 for the Main Menu
Press 4 for Foreigners Applying To Come To the US
Press 2 for Immigrant Visas (yeah, yeah - we know they're not really)
Press 3 for Family or Employer Based Visas
Press 2 for Fiance(e) visas
Press 0 for an Operator
When to call DOS->
then Dos Hotline Human™ knows
--when it arrived at US Embassy (maybe)
--when the casefile was opened
--when the Packet 3 was sent out (if your country still does this)
--when the appointment date is set
--when the packet 4 was sent out
--interview results
In my experience, DOS have more knowledgeable operators, however, if you get a bad one, just try again. You can tell a bad operator, when the dates they give you dont match what you have been tracking on the CEAC site. If you see a date change on CEAC status website, DOS will know why.
For Vietnam HCM Consulate:
You can find all the details of your case once it has been logged by the Embassy/Consulate. They will not accept phone calls or emails for visa inquiries.
Use the inquiry form located here to place an inquiry, response time is usually next day:
http://hochiminh.usconsulate.gov/contact/ivinquiries.html
Critical examples of when you need to use this inquiry
--long wait and no update from embassy
--did not receive packet 3
--did not receive packet 4
--check interview date
--get appointment letter
