  1. So I checked my case status today and found out that they just ordered my green card for me and to allow 30 days for it to arrive! Hooray!
I know about renewing green cards 2 years after they've been issued if you were married for less than 2 years when it arrived (that's no problem)
But what happens when my Employment Authorization card expires? Have my employment rights changed now that I have permanent-resident status? Do I need to inform my employer of my new status?
I'd love if you can help give me some advice (F):)

  2. I got a letter (Notice of Potential Interview Waiver Case) in February saying there was a paperwork-related delay in the office (USCIS National Benefits Center).
They estimated that the delay would be from 6 months of the letter (Feb 13th 2014). So I'm looking to hear something around August 13th 2014 right?
The delay isn't really affecting me in any way but I'm still in alien status until then so things like applying for college will have to wait. I have my work authorization and advance parole so I'm really grateful for that seeing as I can work and make money while I wait.
Just simply wondered if anyone else has been facing a similar issue and what they think about it?

    (I'm in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)

  3. Congratulations on your EAD/AP approval! Just a word of caution though - check the requirements for that Immigration Officer job. I have a feeling you may have to have been a LPR for at least 2-3 years or be a U.S citizen.

    Requirements and Skills

    • Basic knowledge of business immigration is highly desired; minimum of one year immigration experience is preferred.

    • Must possess excellent writing and verbal communication skills.

    • High attention to detail, ability to proofread and edits one’s own work product.

    • Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment.

    • Results oriented individual who produces well under pressure.

    • Strong organizational skills

    • Excellent computer skills

    Education

    • College degree preferred, however experience is also given consideration.

Seems safe to me!! It would be so good if I could get it! This counts as immigration experience right? I did all my own paperwork hahaha laughing.gif

  4. I just checked my case status online yesterday and it said my EAD was approved and they are ordering my card! Which is awesome news, but I was wondering do I actually have to have my EAD in my hands to start applying, or can I apply for jobs now and let them know that I am only waiting for my EAD to arrive in the post (it said it should take 30 days, but they also told me my EAD would take 90 days to process after receiving my response to RFE and that only ended up taking 2 weeks!)

To what extent am I a free person right now? Haha!

The reason I'm asking is because I've actually seen an immigration officer position in my city, which includes dealing with Green Card papers and work authorisation documents!! What a coincidence! I feel like I could easily do that job so I desperately want to apply now!

Thanks guys you are the best :)rose.gif

  5. A driving license won't prove she is a US citizen. She can order a copy of the birth certificate from the count clerk's office where she was born.

    For tax records you need

    1) Form 1040 and any schedules that may be part of the tax return +PLUS+ W2 or 1099 from the employer showing yearly earnings. Anybody could fill out a fake return, so the W2 Earnings form has to go with it as proof of earnings.

    -or-

    2) a tax return transcript, which is a summary from the IRS. It is stand alone with nothing else needed.

I just ordered a tax return transcript from the IRS yesterday, they said it would be 5-10 days getting here, so that's enough right? As for getting my co-sponsor to go get a copy of her birth certificate, I guess I'll have to keep on nagging. Co-operation is my problem here. sad.png

  6. What about a copy of her passport and driving license, might cover the Birth certificate. Also pay stubs may help

Her passport is expired and she doesn't have a current one, I didn't know you could use a driving liscence? Maybe I will try that, we found PLENTY of pay stubbs while we were going through her papers so I will include some of those if I feel like they'll need extra evidence.

You are welcome smile.png I'm just guessing, but it's possible that you guys sent them a copy of 1040 (individual income tax return) or tax account transcripts - in that case they want all schedules and tax forms. Make sure you order tax return transcripts (first online option, with detailed info) and not tax account transcripts.

Yeah I think you're right, I remember seeing "1040" on the top of the first page when we sent them. I'll make sure I order the tax return transcripts! first online option

    Thank yooouu luv.gif

  7. If you send them tax transcripts, then they don't need 1099s and/or W-2s. I ordered them on Monday of last week, and received them in the mail on Friday (they state it takes 5-10 business days, but it's usually faster than that). As for the birth certificate, it has to be ordered as well. Here is the link for IRS: http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Order-a-Transcript

I hope this helps, good luck smile.png

It's really that simple! That's a relief. I'm pretty sure we already sent the Tax Transcript for 2012 but I guess it might have been missing some information? Who knows.. I'll get on nagging my co-sponsor to get a new birth certificate too! Cheers so much for your help! rose.gif

  8. Ok so I recently received an RFE (a few days ago). It was laid out very clearly and told me I was missing a few things, which is totally fine, I guessed I must have misread some instructions or simply forgotten about these things.

They basically need a birth certificate for my co-sponsor to prove she's a lawful American, and a few more tax documents such as the W-2s and 1099s (and all supporting tax schedules) for the most recent tax year. So what they're asking for is very simple, and in an ideal world, I'd be able to get these from a filing cabnet in the house somewhere.

My problem is that I spent 3 hours sorting through my co-sponsor's papers the other night (which were all over her bedroom floor) looking for these documents and I couldn't find a sign of any of them. We checked the filing cabnet and the fire safe, but still no sign of her birth certificate or tax information. We already sent off her IRS papers for 2012 so I'm confident that they have this information, but what can I do about the W-2 and 1099? I know she will have to go to collect a new copy of her birth certificate and that shouldn't take too long, but is it possible to get copies of the tax stuff? And how long will that take? They've given me a 87-day time limit to get this information to them.

My husband suggested we just wait until the 2013 tax forms to come and send those off instead because 2013 will be the new most recent tax year and then we will have all the forms we need.

What do you guys suggest? I'm stressing out so bad.

And does it really take 90 days to process this stuff from the moment they receive the evidence? Am I really going to be unemployed for another 3 months? cray5ol.gif

Your help will be immensely appreciated at this time!

  9. Hi guys, I just want to check I'm getting this filing fee correct-
I'm sending off a package which includes everything listed in the guide, except the travel authorisation document (as I have no intention to travel overseas right now).

I know that the filing fee for I-485 and biometrics is $1070, but I also have an I-765 in there, and the filing fee for that is $380- does this fee still apply if I'm filing it WITH the I-485 in the same package?
I've heard somewhere that the I-765 is free if you file it with your I-485...

Does anyone know exactly what I should be paying with this package?

(I dont have any kids or anything, I am only filing for myself)

  10. So we went to the Social Security Office in our town yesterday to get my name changed from Young to Miller as we got married in September. I had all my documents with me to show him and everything was fine until the officer said he had to go check something with his supervisor. So he closed the window and went to go check something with her. He came back with a letter of refusal and his reason for not letting me change my name to Miller is because my name on my I-94 is Young....

What's going on? He told me to get my name changed on my I-94 but I haven't seen any instructions like that on this website, is it really necessary?? I was Joanne Young when I entered, and that form is meant to represent my state at entry, correct?

I should also add that my 90 days is already up, so right now I'm out-of-status- I'm filing my Aos papers tomorrow (the marriage certificates took 3 weeks! to get to us so that's why everything is a little late)- so could it be that he won't let me change my name because I am currently out of status?

  11. How do I fill this in?
They've given me 3 brackets like this:

    ( ) ( ) ( )

My answer to the question is:

    7. EAD Applicants Who Have Filed for Adjustment
    of Status

    A. Adjustment Applicant--©(9). File your EAD
application with a copy of the receipt notice or other
evidence that your Form I-485, Application for
Permanent Residence or Adjust Status, is pending.
You may file Form I-765 together with your Form
    I-485.

So how do I put that into the brackets? unsure.png

  12. If you got married and if you elect to take a new name then your name is already changed. There is no official place to do it, you just start using the new name and getting IDs in the new name.

USCIS will accept you marriage cert as a valid name change document.

Yayyy thankyou! And what do I put as my country of citizenship? Would it still be the UK as I'm not an American citizen for like another 2 years after I get my green card?

  13. Hi guys, probably a stupid question with a really obvious answer but better to be safe than sorry!

On the G325a form and any others that ask my full name, should I put my husband's last name as my last name?

I haven't officially changed it yet but I probably will soon... Does it need to say his name on my passport for them to accept it as my name?

Or is it safe just using my maiden name on the forms for now?
I'm probably going to change my name on my SSC very soon as in, within the next week, so is that enough evidence for them to accept it as my new name?
