    Hi OP,

My parents applied for tourist visa and I scheduled their interview on the same day with my embassy interview for my CR1 visa....this was back in May 2016. They had an officer who was not the friendliest and she denied them outright then gave them the paper and told them it would explain the denial reasons. The paper just said (in a nutshell) that the embassy strives to filter out persons who intend to stay in the USA and my parents were potentially seen as ones who would become intended immigrants and not leave the USA when it was time to do so.

(Side note: every applicant who went to that officer's window was DENIED!)

Fast forward to August 2017, my parents tried again and were both granted 10-yr tourist visas after explaining to the officer that I was giving birth in January and they wanted to be there for the birth of their grandchild. The officer did not look at any of their documents and spoke to them in a very kind manner.

I have said the above to show you that you CAN have your parents reapply without you becoming a US citizen first. It ALL depends on the officer sitting on the other side and the one who is dedicated to do denials as there is a mandated quota for approvals and denials at every embassy.

I just filed RoC on my CR1 visa so I'm still an LPR and my parents are currently here spending some vacation time with me and my family.

So glad that your parents were granted visas! It gives me hope that one day my parents will be able to come and visit me :)

Will they have more chances when I become a US citizen?

    Thanks!

Ideally yes. But realisticly they profile everyone in everything. The question is what was co 's reason to deny my mother saying she is not able to prove the ties to her home country (214b) if she was not even willing to look at the proofs my mom was offering her to look at. Is this fair? I don't think so.

Same here. My parents were denied 2 weeks ago in Kiev (214b). The consular did not even want to look at their documents. How else can you prove that you have strong ties with your country if the consular doesn't want to look at your documents? This system is so messed up.

  3. I finally got my green card!! such a long wait!

I did a service request in May and didnt get any response from them. So my husband contacted our congressman less than 2 weeks ago and yesterday the congressman called me and said that I was approved.

if you are still waiting call your congressman!!!!

I know some people say they dont do anything but you never know. Some of them are really nice and actually do their job.

I am glad we contacted him!

  4. For EAD I think you're supposed to call after 75 days of their receipt of your docs. So since they got mine 8/4 I planned on calling on or a little after 10/18. When did they get your docs?

It's sad. It looks like the earlier you file the longer they take..

    :(

My NOA is August, 4 and I had my Biometrics done on August, 27.

I guess then I will wait for 75 days too.

I just wish they did it in order, you know, so it will be fair to everyone.

  5. I went back and forth around mine for more than 1000 and they all have around my NOA1 dates, and NONE are approved or anything. crazy. I can't believe how fast some of you are getting through this. We mailed ours on Aug 2, and people weeks after us are moving right along it's very frustrating. But at least it's not the K1 again, where he is not here. Patience is not one of my virtues. :(

Oh I totally understand you. My NOA1 is dated August 4 and biometrics done August 27. But nothing since then. And so, so many cases around mine have been updated. I have a feeling that they just skippped my case and the next 7 lol, really.

Oh well, i guess it's impossible to understand how this system works. No reason to keep checking other statuses and stress ourselves.

At least we are together with our loved ones so it makes this waiting much easier. Let's enjoy our first year of officially being a family (L):dancing:

Personally, I was waiting and dreaming about this for 4 years and now I have it all. Oh, cant wait for my husband to come home after work today and give him a big hug and tell how much I love him. And nothing else matters... (L)(L)(L)

  6. Hmm, I know that my soon to be husband and I co-signed on a car loan and car ownership my first week in the US after I arrived on a K-1 visa. We weren't even married yet nor did I have a SSN. They took my Ontario DL and passport as identification, but they only looked at the identification page and did not even see the visa nor the I-94. We told them I was here on a K-1 visa and we were getting married. They wished us Congratulations and that was that with regards to my status. We also took this step as a way to help me re-establish credit since my Canadian credit rating did not transfer to the US and I was basically at 0.

I am very surprised that your status is an issue with the car ownership. Are you financing through the dealership itself or is this an arrangement through your bank? It does sound like it is more of the ignorance most Americans have about how immigration works. The environment has definitely become more 'anti-immigrant (legal or otherwise) in the 10 years since I arrived.

You have the car. You have the signed documentation and contracts. You have legal status in the US even if the finance manager is 'unable' to understand or recognize it. You have provided the evidence of that status. You are paying the monthly installments. If you run into any sort of difficulties or challenges at this time, you also have legal recourse. If they start making 'noise', a letter from a lawyer advising them that they would be in breach of contract might be all that is required. In the meantime, you could send them USCIS documents that explain your legal position in the US - background information explaining the K-1 visa and the Adjustment of Status process. If it were me, I would likely inundate them with 'data', but this really does sound like more anti-immigrant ignorance to me.

    Good luck.

I sent them my NOA1 to prove that I have filed for AOS, I think I already gave them more information that is actually needed. It's been 2 days now and no answer from them So, I hope thats a good sign, if not then i guess I'll just wait for my EAD, hope it will be any time soon.

    Thank you!

  7. I was so happy yesterday when we bough a car with my husband and they said that I could be a co-purchaser. I really wanted to have my name on it, so I can bring it to the interview, and i will have a credit history from now.

This morning the finance manager asked me to send him my visa and all that stuff. He said that my visa is expired and my husband explained to him that thats how it works, that the visa is only for getting married and I am legally in USA since I married him within 90 days. We even sent him a copy of my NOA1 that I have applied for my green card already . Then this manager asked my husband to send him a copy of his passport and to prove that he is a US citizen!!!! REALLYY???? I told him that I wouldnt be able to come here and apply for a green card if he wasnt a US citizen.

So I dont know whats going to happen, i guess they will remove my name from it. Im just feeling so sad... and mad lol

Maybe I dont understand something, but what do you guys think? Can I actually be a co-purchaser? I mean I am already , because we have all the documents now and the car. If they didnt like something they should have told me that yesterday.

Btw, my husband added me to his account and no problems at all. They took my SSN , looked at my visa and passport and thats it. Nobody mentioned anything that my visa was expired or anything like that.

Is there anything else i can do to prove them that I am actually legally in US?

    Thanks

  8. Got my biometrics letter yesterday and my appointment is already in 3 days!!!

I didnt check mail for a week, but I checked online every day and it showed acceptance all the time, not even initial review, so I thought it would take another week or so to get it.

It's weird, it says the letter was issued on august 8 ( NOA1 august 6), but then I dont know why it took them so long to mail it (the stamp says it was mailed ONLY on august14), so it's already a week and then another week because I didnt check my mail.

what if i didnt check my mail for the next few days and missed my boimetrics. It could have actually happened...

Oh well. I'm not complaining :) Just didnt expect my appointment in less then 3 weeks after NOA1. At least It will be a good lesson for me now, not to rely on online updates and always to check my mail.

I wish the whole process was that fast;:)

    Good luck, guys!!!
