I live on the WV/KY border so yes, it is a 5+ hour drive. There's more to WV than what's north of Charleston.

Timeline is in signature. Just a side note, apply online if possible. It's much, much faster.
Anyhow. We got a letter that SO will be given his citizenship test in early December (at a city 5hrs away, of course). The guy at the biometrics place said he'd take the test and then get a notice to be sworn in as a citizen. Does this mean he does not have to be interviewed, or is the interview part of the testing process? I know our letter asked for a number of document, even my own birth certificate. I'll likely just bring everything, but should we expect an interview? The test will be administered at the Pittsburgh office, if that makes a difference. Thanks.

They are also clear that a positive response to many of those questions does not automatically disqualify you. It just means they have more stuff to check.
Thanks, this is reassuring but also a bit disheartening since mental illness is more than stigmatized enough. Hope I can keep him out of the hospital until this is done.

Part 12, Question 5: Have you EVER been declared legally incompetent or been confined to a mental institution?
EDIT: Just to clarify, he has bad depression and anxiety. He is not incompetent. Most mentally ill people are not incompetent. -
Alright, so after 5+ years here we are going to file for DH's Naturalization. Part of why I am doing is that he is mentally unwell. I've thought about taking him to the hospital in the past but he insisted that I don't. Imagine how I felt when I came across the question regarding if the immigrant has been confined or spent time in a mental institution. Ouch. Has anyone experienced this and gotten through the process? At the end of the day my DH's life is more important than a US passport but I think that's pretty messed up. Anyone else in my position? Thanks.

I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum but I'm at the end of my rope. Long story short he has a severe mental illness. He has been referred to a specialist but there is a 2 month wait. In the meantime he functions, but just barely. I am hoping that the specialists can help and that he can recover, but I am starting to think that he may not ever be the same, and may not be able to work, even just temporarily.
My questions are... will this preclude him from becoming a citizen? Could he get on short term or long term disability if he isn't a citizen? (This is not what either of us want... we believe very much in working for a living but it's getting to the point that he really can't, at least not right now).
I'm sorry if this is kind of disjointed... I'm just completely hollowed out trying to keep everything together for the both of us. I'm grateful for any help or advice.

I received a letter today stating that his conditions have been removed and that we should get his new card within six weeks. There is still NO update online besides the very first one, stating that the case was received last year. I suggest checking your mailbox more frequently than the USCIS website, imo.
I reckon that citizenship is next! Good luck to all those who are waiting.
-
I'm glad to see that VSC is processing cases from October. I really want to avoid having to get an infopass appointment, miss work, etc for the extension stamp.
-
Still waiting over here too (October, detailed timeline in signature). I'm just hoping we get it before the year mark because I really can't afford a 5 hour trip to the closest USCIS field office.
-
...any other VSC people still waiting here with me?

-
After, most likely. The biometrics letter comes fairly soon after the application is sent off. Most people (us included) had biometrics done just a month after mailing our package.
-
Hey Firebird, I'm early in the process. They send letters to people they need to interview, but I don't think that happens very often for ROC. We just did biometrics and I'm settled in to wait for several months to hear anything at all.
-
Alrighty, thanks! I'm prepared to know nothing for the next 5-7 months or so

-
Hey everyone, I did a search but couldn't find anything. Sorry if the answer is obvious... I have two EAC numbers on my documents to remove my husband's conditions. We got his biometrics done on Wednesday and it was an easy process. I'm wondering if our case status should have changed after they received his biometrics. The first EAC number says there is no case associated with it and the second just says they received the petition and sent me correspondence (what it said before the biometrics. Thanks.

Mailed ours this morning! Vermont Service Center. Good luck, everyone.

I'm American, he is Canadian. We met in Canada, started dating, then moved to South Korea to teach. We married there and he came to the US on a CR-1 January of 2014. If you guys could look over the proof I have so far, that would be great. Thanks

- Copies of the passport and green cards (spouse).
- A list of the three residences we have shared since his arrival.
- Two sworn affidavits by American family and friends, attesting to our relationship and marriage.
- Copies of bank statements from our joint bank account.
- A copy of our 2014 joint US tax return.
- Copies of closing documents on our home, which was purchased June 2015.
- Proof of joint car insurance.
- Copy of homeowner’s insurance.
- Copy of joint renter’s insurance of our previous rental property.
- Documentation of our joint healthcare insurance.
- Documentation of being one another’s life insurance beneficiaries.
- Photos of us with family and friends, as well as on vacation.
- Airline documents from our vacation to France in July 2015.
- Copy of (Spouse's) (US State's) teaching license.
- Copy of our mortgage bill for our home.
-
I did my visa in South Korea but I put my foreign income on the I-864. My foreign income was considered sufficient enough for them not to need my co-signer's information but this seems to vary with different consulates.
But yes, she would put her foreign income on the I-864. They will know where it was earned by looking at the tax forms and other information.
-
Thanks, I might email the embassy and ask.
-
The primary applicant is the petitioner? On all of the forms the primary applicant was my husband, who is the only applicant. I'm the US citizen.
-
So long story short, due to some work issues, my husband may need to return to the US before I do. Is it possible for him to land successfully if I am not there with him? I keep getting mixed answers.. does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.

Like I said I can find used vehicles, but not the type that I want. I will have a 75 mile per day commute and I don't want to have a vehicle that gets only 10 miles to the gallon. I've been looking for a couple of months.

Got our test date, does that mean no interview?

Yikes. I'd forgotten how rude people could be on these forums. It's unfortunate.
