  1. When did you apply for the visa? It can take a few months, best to not make firm travel plans until you have the visa in hand. I am sure it will come, maybe not by Oct 15, why do you say you might not get to go at all? I have felt with the Algerian Consulate in New York more than once and they are slow to respond to emails but they do answer. Do you speak Arabic or French, or know someone who does? When they were slow to answer my email about my visa my fiancé called them and and was able to find out where it was in the process. This is the email I used visa@algeria-cgny.org Good Luck

  2. This is my experience with AP in Algeria for k1...Husband (fiancé at the time) had interview was given a 221g form at the interview and put on AP. We heard nothing from the Embassy other than confirming the AP, at 60 days I sent an email asking for an update about 2 weeks later I received an email stating that his visa was being processed, total time in AP about 2.5 months. AP is different for everyone, but it is not uncommon in Algeria here is the email I used if you want to send them an inquiry (I used it last year so hope it is still current) IV-DValgiers@state.gov

    Good luck

  3. Hi all, we filed for AOS on Dec, had bio in Jan, EAD and AP received in Feb. Have not heard anything since then. Yesterday we received a RFE for the chicken pox vaccine, I know we need a civil surgeon to fill out the form saying he has a history and does not need the shot. My question is: Do they send out the RFE's before an interview letter, or interview waiver letter? We have not received anything regarding an interview. OR are we just bypassing the interview part and they will issue the green card once they have the letter from the civil surgeon? Any advise is welcome. Thank you!

  4. Welcome to Minnesota! Minneapolis is a wonderful place to live, full of parks, theater, sports, bike trails, and lakes. I am not certain on the elementary schools, but will say if you live in a good neighborhood it will have a good school, here in Minnesota education is taken seriously. For nice neighborhoods really depends if you want to live in the city, or a suburb. Personally my favorite neighborhood is North East (NOT NORTH THAT IS BAD)

  5. We filed for AOS in Dec for my husband. He received AOS and EAD fairly quickly. The website does not update our case, it is stuck on "Jan 27 we received undeliverable mail..." . We have called USCIS and they have the correct mailing address, and the last update we have was that our file was sent to the local office(St. Paul MN) on March 27. We have heard nothing since. When I look at processing times for field offices St Paul is processing Oct 12 cases. I have 2 questions, first since it has been sent to St. Paul does that mean that we will have an interview? Second, assuming we will have an interview and they do cases in order should we expect to receive a letter in about 2 months with an interview date, or would we get a letter sooner with an interview date in approximately 2 months? We have decided on a school for him and want to start him in the fall but from what the school has told us, he will not qualify for financial aid unless he has a green card. I am trying to figure out if fall semester is a possibility or not. Thanks for your help :)

  6. My husband uses google tv and watches internet news channels on the tv, most smart tvs have internet browsing built in, or you can buy it separately, there is no monthly fee for it. We also have dish world sports, it is like Netflix $10 a month and has all the soccer games that don't show on regular tv here.

  7. We did have one problem that you may have. For the actual drivers license he got a letter saying that they couldn't give it to him because he was only here temporarily (they go off the date of your I can't remember what it's called but the form when you come that expires in 90 days I94?). We had to go downtown St Paul to the DMV and provide a "certified" copy (we tried with just a regular copy and they sent us home) of the marriage certificate, and a copy of his visa. Hopefully you will not have the same problem, but thought I would mention it just in case.

  8. He took it once in Plymouth and twice in Arden Hills, like I said no problem at either place for us to just show up and not a horrible wait any of the times. I don't know what your schedule is like ( we didn't do this, all 3 of his tests were in the afternoon) one of the people who works at the DMV said the best time to come without an appt is when they open. Honestly I don't think you will have a problem, and I wouldn't want to wait that long if I were you.

For to biometrics his appt was at 1 PM we arrived at 12:45 and were out of there in 10 minutes. I think that they must give a group of people the same time because 4 or 5 people rolled in after us with 1 PM appts. It took them a bit longer because they had to wait for those in front of them. All in all it was quick and the people were very nice.

  9. We were just at the St. Paul office, they do not do walk ins (I saw 3 people told to come back on the date of their letter).

My husband took his driving test a few months ago we just showed up (3 times, because he failed the first 2 tests, stupid snow he couldn't see the lines in the road). Anyway it was no problem longest we had to wait was 30 minutes. I would suggest you show up for the driving test when it is easy for you and cancel your appointment after you pass the test.

    Good luck

  10. Hi, I told my husband I would try to make him couscous, all the recipes I have found seem to call for an ingredient I can't find at my local supermarket here in the US. Does anyone have a fairly easy recipe for couscous that has ingredients that can be found easily here in the US. I want to preferably make it with beef. All recipes and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks:)

  12. I actually just got back yesterday from 10 days in Algiers:) I have gotten 2 visas from the New York consulate both really easy. Just send the paper with the invitation letter and passport photos, remember to send a prepaid express envelope with a tracking number for them to send your passport back to you. The visa I got this year is good for 1 year with multiple entries with a 90 day total max stay. That is the longest I could get, I have heard of the 2 year visa, but I think that is only if you are married to an Algerian. Good luck, it really is easy:)
