devotedpartners reacted to Dr. A ♥ O in 9 years ago today
Nine years ago today I met my husband on St. Patrick's Day. I guess we could say it was our lucky day!
I had time before my friends could meet to go out for St. Patrick's Day so I went online into a yahoo movie chat room. That's where we talked for the first time and saw each other on webcam. I was wearing green lipstick and green clothes. He was wearing a white button up shirt and I remember the day was so bright there while it was night time where I was.
It just started out as casual acquaintances with a mutual interest in films, and then we became friends for a couple of years before it grew into something more. I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I'd be married to an Arab Muslim from Egypt that I met over the internet but here we are nine years later and still going.
This is a really special anniversary for us because it was the start of it all. He brought it up to me so we recently looked back at our old photo albums together and said we look so young to ourselves now. My God we were both just 25 years old when we first met! Both so young, healthy, attractive and full of potential. You don't realize what you have until later. Hindsight is 20/20.
Then we talked about what happened each year that passed since we first met and recalled all the things we went through to be together. We realized we're finally coming up on having more years being physically together than when we were apart. Some of those years apart were so dark and difficult, but now life is a lot sweeter the three years after he's been in the States with me and it feels like it's only going to get better from here. I know some of our best years together are yet to come!
Think about that when you feel down about everything. Some of the happiest years of your life together hasn't happened yet, but it will. It's waiting for you both and there is so much more to look forward to.

Haa that,is,funny what you say above that these animals, dont eat garbage. i chase away goats all day chewing on the side if the barn, why they want to eat barn wood is crazy to me, but, they do but yet you say they dont as if you live on a farm and raise animals. I see chickens every single day pecking on plastic feed bags but,yet you say they dont, so how are you to know this and that they dont swallow any of this.

you keep saying I DIDNT SAY THAT in many of your posts, but yet you do. You just said above you did not say about other animals when you did its quoted below.
Those animals are halal, however they do not eat garbage... other dead animals, rotting food, flesh, or even their own kind. They do not eat wood, and plastic, and anything they can swallow.
The point is, though other food is halal beside pork, animals are animals and can eat things not so good, like cows eat grass all day bird or chicken poop on it, you think a cow knows what bird poop is, and birds carry, diseases dont they? but its still considered good for,us.
and.. you seem to be,stuck in this pig thing. How long have you been muslim? you are talking to born and raised muslims as if we just converted and know nothing about pigs, seriously.

I am sorry to say that you have some wrong understanding of some religious groups you have mentioned to your knowledge, mormans and Jehova Witness are Christian groups, though some may not agree with that just like they don't call Catholics Christians, but they are too.
Plus, why did you speak about how animals are "raised"? who cares how they are raised! and where in Quran or Sunnah does it say that the people of the Book should be "practicing"? there are many non-practicing Muslims as well. Are we not allowed to eat their zabiha or animals they killed?! and how can we guarantee they named Allah's named before killing the animal? Beside, the fact that America is not a Christian country is a wrong statement simply because we usually speak about a country's religion based on the majority of people who live there and not on the minority, just like when we say that the Middle East or North Africa is Muslim even though the two geographical areas have thousands, nay, millions of Christians as well.

Muslims can eat the meat from people of the "book" ie: Christians and jews.... So since this is a christian country the meat from most major store chains is fine.... Some prefer halal but it is ok if it is from a jewish store or Giant, safeway, weggmans, ect, ect..... Meat from muslim butchers is much more exspensive in my area so I only buy it for the Eid....

You know who else will do that? Goats. Chickens. Rabbits. All of them perfectly halal animals to consume in every Sunni madhab.

My issue with that, not that you asked me, would be that your actions nevertheless benefit and contribute to a haram business. Assisting that business in any way is problematic. You certainly don't have to hate them, and should always treat them humanely, but...

Yeah, I've like said numerous times here that I don't eat it because the Quran says not to eat it. And your response to that is to insinuate that' I'm somehow deficient or lacking in having read the very source I just cited? Really?
Right, we hear and obey that it's forbidden, on that we are in agreement. Then you also assert that it's "not good for our health" and that's the reason that it is therefore prohibited. How do you know that's why? Spiritually it's certainly harmful, but how is it harmful physically? On a nutritional level? A microbiological level? None of those reasons really hold up, so I don't understand what the problem seems to be for so many people with just accepting it, instead of trying to find reasons that are completely unneeded. Slandering the animal hardly seems necessary.

It would not take anyone with half a brain more than 30 seconds to realize how ridiculous and nonsensical those c&p jobs were. Can't be poisoned with strychnine? Pigs have "pus filled canals running down their legs"? And none of this absurdity tipped you off that maybe those cut and pastes were written by people who don't have the slightest idea what they're talking about?
From where are you getting that I "don't want religious reasons" for why not? I've explicitly said over and over that the only reason I don't eat haram food is because it's religiously prohibited. No.other.reason. It's certainly not lies or or made up garbage about pigs that keeps me from eating them.
You know what else it's forbidden to eat? Bears. Polar bears, grizzlies, even those cute little sun bears are disallowed. The same is true of lions, tigers and Komodo dragons. But no one is out there writing these ridiculous lists of outright lies and junk science about the supposed inherent filthiness of cheetahs, or wolves, or elephants. (All not allowed to eat either!) It's embarrassing, and discrediting for Muslims when some of them copy and paste and pass around this kind of nonsense.

Regarding having to be careful when we eat at a restaurant; something as simple as french fries is a big thing to look out for....ask the waiter/waitress what kind of oil they fry the french fries in. If the restaurant also serves bacon, most likely those french fries are fried in the same oil as the bacon..
My husband is a chef at a very nice restaurant, and he discovered by chance that they do that very thing..soooooo...no french fries for us from there!! Now we just assume that most restaurants do the same thing, to save money on oil.
Another topic....in the late 1990's I lived in Khamis Mushayt, Saudi Arabia, where there is an American Air Force base, and the American pilots would bring back bacon from the US and the local grocery store, Al Ghoneim's, actually stored it in their meat dept. just for the expat Americans and British. Just something I found interesting while I was there....

Mithra, i,take your advise and not let others judge me here. So here goes.
My wifes family has a big farm in texas with so many hundred of animals and so many pigs. I know I will be judged here for saying this, though I dont eat pork, I find myself helping with feeding the animals and at first I was hesitate about even looking at the pigs much less feeding them. They are so ungly but have found a good place in my heart as Allah did creat them but I know to never eat them. I dont hate them as others here seem to judge this animal as a creature from hell.
To be honest, these pigs have a better lifestyle in there farm then so many on the streets. The pigs live on fresh vegetables, corn feed, and even get daily baths by the helpers since the day they born. I guess, I just am a bit different in my way of thinking of this animal, since I now help take care of them.

Then why are lots of things that can just as easily be harmful to health totally allowed then, if that's the reason?
-

Oh, it met my expectations alright, given that you answered. What it didn't meet is my standards for like facts and stuff.
Cut and paste text walls of junk science,
No, I don't raise pigs. I've seen them at the county fair though.

Ahh the false kaka that can be found on the interwebs. That is some seriously ignorant anti pork propaganda.

Ok so your anti-pork copy paste sounded better? Sounded like a bunch of baseless #######. At least the "pro-pork propaganda" info came from folks who raise pigs and know what they're actually talking about not some garbage scare tactics #######.
If ppl don't want to eat pork for religious reasons that's great and their prerogative. Posting absolutely false, unsubstantiated information to back up your hatred of pigs is ridiculous. Just don't eat pork. Your fellow Muslims don't need convincing with that nonsense you posted.

Pigs are only as dirty living as the conditions their owners provide for them. Cows, goats, and chickens are all every bit as dirty when kept in grubby conditions. They're also just as potentially full of pathogens that can make their human consumers very sick. Raw milk is perfectly halal, but can and has spread infections like strep, and TB, and has killed people due to E. coli etc.
I don't eat pigs because the Quran says not to do so. Nor do I spread lies or misinformation about an animal that even though I am not allowed to eat it was still created by Allah.

You are right that people should search important topics for themselves, and sometimes, just like your husband, we are shocked by things we don't know, but that statement is correct according to many islamic scholars based on Q 5:5 "The food of the People of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them."
Still, this is a public forum, and people should get their info from trustworthy sources.

Once again, another poster who clearly only likes to read what he wants.... Find any where on here where I or any other poster said in these words, "bismillah means your food is Halal"
-
devotedpartners reacted to Peace.... in Halal meat
Again, where did anyone incluiding myself and the poster you are replying to say that saying BISMALLAH makes food halal??
People are ignorant because that cant read what others are saying OR they read between the lines here.
