    The problem with applying for a tourist visa (particularly when a residency visa application is underway) is that if they deny the visa for whatever reason, then you cant use the VWP to get into the country. So IMO, its better to just go down the VWP route...

    I agree with him. You need to take care of your health first though. I had a very stressful high powered job, I was trying to get over a failed relationship, I had mortgages coming out of my butt, but I kept pushing myself to work work work... Then one day I went into my office and totally lost it. It was like the human version of Chernobyl. Total meltdown. I then took two weeks off, it turned into a month, it turned into 7 years... And even after that, I never went back, even though my job was waiting for me. So you make sure you take care of yourself now, y'hear? if you take care of yourself, you'll have the strength to take care of your job

    Let me help you further avoid the corn cob
    The $1000 fee form relates to those already in the US who are applying for a CR1/IR1, as they have to file I-130 and I-485 to adjust status from whatever visa they have to a GC. So if you're in the US on a work/student/K3/K1 visa and you get married, you'd be stuck with that huge fee. As for those filing from outside the US, it's $420 (I-130) + $88 (AOS) + $230 (IV) + whatever the medical costs.. and then there's the whole removal of conditions thing etc etc but that can apply for both groups. I hope that helps! I've been reading up on this whole process far too much (which is why I'm thoroughly unprepared for my exam tomorrow)

    Oh I seeeee Makes sense.
    I dunno... God bless America and all that jazz, but I'm sure they could have made this whole process a whole lot easier. When my parents moved to the US in 1961, they were charged $15 to have their fingerprints taken, they signed a form to say they were decent people, and they crossed the border. Somewhere between 'paying $15' and 'DS-2032 I-130 I-666 BS-409 AOS NVC USCIS #######', I'm sure someone could have invented a slightly easier system. One that doesn't cause people such stress and angst. One that doesnt separate families. One that doesn't cost so much...

    Ok so I was transferred to NSC center as well. Not the happiest person in the world .
    On a brighter note, I spoke with Tier 2 and I have so say she was one of the few IOs who was quite helpful and informative. She basically told me that the file was received at NSC today and I should see some activity (NOA2) with my case in the next 30 days as they are aiming to get back to 5 month processing time sooner than later (so I guess they realize that the clock is ticking for them). I also showed that I was little unhappy as so why it went to NSC and not any of the other two centers. Her response was as we are expediting the process, the file should be assigned to an immigration officer within 30 days irrespective of where it went. From what I am seeing, none of the August filers went to NSC so as soon as we see some activity in July thread for NSC transfers we can be next one in the line. Also - as I was typing this message, I saw someone with July 17 NOA1 (NSC) did see some activity on the case.
    The bottom line is, it may not be as bad as we both are making it out to be. Think about it, most of the July/Aug went to CSC (70%)/TSC (~30%) and many of those applications are yet to be approved. So if we were also transferred to CSC or TSC we might have ended up waiting for same amount of time as NSC...Again I could me wrong but that is my own analysis. Stay strong!

    Ahhhh, today may be the day for 9/11-9/13, or I'll have to wait until Monday. I hope that things are picking up and going into hyberspeed for those who were transferred to NSC, and that there is the continuous speedy-somewhat speedy pace for those transferred to CSC and TSC!
    Only 9 hours to go to find out! lol

    k.dlg got a reaction from Francan in USCIS has turned my marriage into a joke...
    My husband and I have been together for 5 years (Feb 2009) and have been dealing with USCIS for over a year now since we originally filed for a I-129F (K1 Visa) back in January 2013. I can't help but be frustrated and jealous that current K1 visa processes are ridiculously fast compared to when I was in the backlog back then. I've been seeing people approved in 1-2 months and done with the complete process in 5 months or less.
    During my research for the I-129F Petition (before I found Visa Journey!), I was under the assumption that I would need evidence of a legitimate relationship and evidence that a wedding was being planned. As many of you are aware, a traditional wedding takes a lot of time to plan, and due to the large non-refundable financial investments we made in order to secure our wedding date over a year ahead of time, we could not reschedule. We were aware of the amount of time the entire process would take which is how we decided on a solid date and were confident everything would be in order; however, that was based on processing data from 2012 and prior. (I know we should have not planned until he had the visa - but again, this was BEFORE we found visa journey). Due to the inconsistencies of the USCIS, we were misled to believe we had planned wisely, and had to start our process all over again and lost money from the first petition.
    Our experience with the USCIS has been one huge headache, and with the consistent fluctuations of the current processing times for this type of petition due to another growing backlog, it is difficult to determine when my husband can immigrate into the United States so we can start to make some solid plans after learning from our mistakes from the first go-around. I do not have a problem with USCIS being thorough in processing applications and discovering fradulent cases, but I do have a problem with inconsistency, especially since I work for a government branch and these type of numbers would not cut it.
    I know that the time apart will be a blink of the eye compared to our time together in the future, but here's hoping that they have finally improved their processes and will soon begin to make our type of petitions a priority for those who file later on. Best of luck to everyone else and hope you're with your loved one soon.

    Everyone is in the same boat..We all feel the same..On a positive note, most us have already waited 5 months and once we are transferred in the next couple of weeks, the wait won't be as song (keeping my fingers crossed). Some of Apr/May/Jun/Jul are still waiting for their approvals..We are in a much better situation than them

    I hope we're all fortunate and end in up in CSC because if their information is correct then:
    Dec = June
    Jan = July
    Feb = Aug
    Mar = Sept
    Hope our time is very near!

    Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
    Fingers crossed we'll be hearing SOME news within the next few weeks! We may be apart from our spouses today, but next year and all those that follow will be spent together.
    Just wanted to share a VERY fitting song for all of us that I attached to a video I made for my husband. Made it to take my mind off missing him, and instead, enjoyed looking through all the pictures of us through the last 5 years.
    If you haven't heard the song already, just listen to the words, and share this video (song + lyrics) with your spouse today.

    k.dlg reacted to Kaylara in Compiling the info Re: DACA applications impacting the K1 and the I130 petitions
    But it *wasn't* any other thing. I have absolutely no problem with the DACA petitioners. I think that they should be able to stay in the US without fear of being deported. My beef is with the way the USCIS implemented DACA's processing. As I said, the way the USCIS works is bad. Their fix is inadequate. Too little, too late. I'm not content to just accept this. You may be entirely content to do so, good for you. I just have no clue why you feel the need to actively discourage other people who *ARE* trying to fix things. How exactly do you think change happens without pressure?
    I have no idea why you're trying to call me a racist. Or equate me with a racist. Either way, it's not true and I don't appreciate the insinuation.
    Other people might not care after they get their visa. I am not one of those people. I've been told repeatedly how *I* am going to react, how *I* am going to behave. If other people disappear after they get their visa, that's their decision. But that does not dictate my behavior. I see quite a few people on here who are already done with immigration and still come back here for whatever reason. Either to help, or to actively discourage. But either way, they didn't get their visa and just piss off.
    IF some form of CIR goes through, it *WILL* be changing a lot of the way the system works. I think it behooves us to try to ensure that our interests are represented.
    If you don't want to help, then don't. You're not providing a reality check. Actively discouraging people is not helpful, not necessary, and not wanted. We're already aware of what we're up against.
    Thank you! I'll try to look for it as well, when I have a moment!

    VWP is Visa Waiver... something that starts with P. It means that we don't need a tourist visa to visit the US.
    I've been going over the border (driving, though, not flying) with some regularity since my I-130 petition and haven't had any troubles so far. A few more questions each time, so I'm guessing that they see that I have a petition in the system, but I've always been going for a short (under 2 weeks) stay and had work to get back to.
    Are you in Edmonton? That's where I'm from originally and I have noticed that the Customs people seem to be a lot tougher there than in most airports I've been to.
